Here are some photos. It feels like there are only 2 cards in here plus 2 islands.

Thank you for the additional information!  That is a very thin pack.

I should have realized this because it’s a vertical artwork pack unlike the first edition horizontals, but the copyright date of 2005 confirms that it’s unlikely or impossible to be a prerelease type thing.  So interesting.  Makes me wonder if it’s a European-based demo pack – meant for Envoys/etc to open in front of people to garner interest.

Some reasonable lots up, some might be worth taking a flyer on.  Still no bids on the SCS LE’s + Obago lot…

? WOW!!!! That might be the most loaded ship ever to sail! The Santisima Trinidad has 20 total cannons, AND the Endeavour’s ability! O_O I think 15 extra cannons is the new record, if my English HMS Dreadnought from CG1 was the record holder at 10 extra and 15 total. So that’s up to 40 masts eliminated in one turn! (Just like 40 Blows to the Skull with the Zeus, but that was with an extra action and copying Longship/Endeavour) With an extra action, up to *80* masts eliminated in one turn!!!! XD O_O (beyond unlikely, but still, you may have set a new “potential damage output” record here in this game)
3:23 Perfect shot of the carnage.
3:57 I know what you mean. I’ve seen plenty of “momentum” battles with devastating counterattacks, especially in EE 2015 and CTO. With enough ships involved sometimes an entire war can feel like a pendulum swinging back and forth, or a heavyweight boxing match in slow motion. XD
4:15 That looks like the bizarre ship carrier transport. XD (Blue Marlin: https://static.vesselfinder.net/images/media/372834033257525434d084815e0ddb17.jpg)
6:38 4 DECKER CHAOS!!! XD Makes you wonder how much more effective the real ST would have been in English hands, given their superior cannons and gunners….
It’s not something I’ve kept track of, but sinking 10 ships in one turn is almost definitely a record too.
11:27 Yes go English!! They are having a very nice late game. Didn’t think they’d be one of the major players competing for the win.

I would like to add custom bowsprits, etc…?

That sounds wild but hopefully someday!  I think it could revolutionize custom ships, if you could simply create digital artwork that the printer uses to print your design for you.  I can definitely think of some wild and epic sail designs….

It wan’t overly confusing, was it?

Not at first glance, but it seems like the kind of ability that would inevitably get confusing once other abilities/UT’s are involved.

I am trying to edit the the Crew Card Template Bloodyriz made for download on Boardgame Geek.

Nice!  I haven’t played around with those enough, but I thought there was a blank template around somewhere.  It may have been at the Corsairs of Douglas County site (which is gone now), or someone else’s file.

You would have to print hulls and masts separate though. Oh and you would have to paint the ships too, unless you use brown black plastic for the hulls and white plastic for the masts. That could be a work around to painting just touches of details. Who knows what the future holds!?!

Exactly.  Eventually technological advancements might allow for more precise printing and more options.  Perhaps someday we’ll be able to print painted ships that can be deconstructed!

I must say that the Acclamator II’s flavor text confuses me.  I would think of a “full crew” as perhaps 4 crew, or at least captain/helmsman/oarsman for 2 spaces.  Extra weaponry would be equipment or maybe specialists/etc, all of which are likely to take up cargo spaces.  It feels like the ship should have 5 or 6 total cargo spaces, which of course would have to bump the cost up by quite a lot, probably 25 or more points due to the insanely good Battleship keyword.

I haven’t analyzed them for long but most of the point costs for the new stuff looks fair.  I think the Moonfire is too cheap though, or too fast.  I think the Duke of Clarence should be 15 points as she has an extremely good ability.  I have a feeling the Abnegation would get a long Pirate Code entry.  XD

That said, to add on to your praise, something I’m more or less proud of is an annual Campaign game, that’s going on it’s fifth year….. 0.0

Indeed, that is very impressive.  Consistency of play is tough given how many players stopped after 2008/2009, and I certainly know about the massive time and effort that goes into each and every campaign game ever played and (especially) finished.  🙂

So why not simply say that the component of a ship’s base move is the bonus it gets if undamaged?

I’m surprised to say I haven’t used that or similar systems.  Thinking about it, it could be a way to curb the larger ships a bit, which can dominate against most smaller vessels (except the OP ones) in general gameplay.

Pretty sure there are rulesets in the files section of BGG that concern this house rule; there are a lot of ways to go about it.  I tend to think of it more as the ship goes her normal speed with all masts, then the speed decreases as masts are lost.  (rather than starting slow but with a bonus from all masts standing)

Just found out that if you hover over the link text leading to a post in the “Recent Replies” forum widget, it will show the start of the text for that actual post.  Kinda neat if you want to preview the subject or are trying to remember if you looked at the post already and need to refresh your memory.

Official WizKids Trade Currents were only available in the last set, Savage Shoes (SS), which was NOT sold in game packs, but was sold in booster BOXES, which contained one pre-built ship from SS, and what amounted to three (or two, I’m not certain) packs worth of SS as well as a packs’ worth from Rise of the Fiends and Fire and Steel.

SS boxes are called Scavenger Pack boxes, not a true booster box like the regular 18 and 36 count boxes.  They have 3 packs’ worth of SS.

I have one official trade current, but I’m not sue how to post a picture to the forum here.

I posted a thread about that and now the information is also in a sticky right at the top of the forum.

My thoughts for you. Take ’em or leave ’em.

Thank you!  I will take that into consideration as I resume looking at the sheet soon.  I personally find that aligning small bits of text (such as single digit numbers) in the center of cells is easier to look at and digest the information than having it aligned to one side.

I may even make an additional spreadsheet with just one tab with all the sets.

Each person would download the sheet (or make a copy in their own Google drive/etc) to make their own edits due to their specific collection, so at that point they could make the font smaller if they wanted to.

What about Trade Currents? Would it be possible to get a picture of that game piece or is it also in Vassal?

I’m actually not seeing any pictures of trade currents with a few quick looks.  They are in VASSAL, as you can see if you download the module.

Indeed, sometimes buying lots on eBay (including punched/used) is a good way to expand a collection without spending a ton of money.

I just need to get the islands from the frozen north or proxy a fog bank for an iceberg?

Exactly.  That’s how we’ve done icebergs in VASSAL actually – with fog banks that have a face up coin for the number in the middle.

@CaptainPlunder: Those 4 ships are definitely not equal, but there are sort of two “tiers” with the Golden Medusa and Lady’s Scorn at the top (in that order, for me at least) and the Rum Runner and Revenge at the bottom (also in that order).

I would concentrate more on learning the rules and having fun rather than trying to have completely “equal” fleets.  I’ve certainly lost games where I had the better fleet “on paper”, and I’ve won games against opponents who had a better fleet than me.

Wow Voya Nui gone?! That is pretty wild. Sort of reminds me of the volcanic activity during the Experimental cumulative game.
Wow, the English and Cursed have really gone on impressive launching sprees! I could definitely see a viable strategy being to lay low for most of the game and then launching a ton in the final weeks of play to boost the ship count.
    Oh gosh not Becalmed lol.
“Lending” 1000 gold?! What is this trickery?? XD
    Love the shot at 7:31
8:37 is epic, reminds me of the Pirate launches at the fort in CTO.
11:05 Great picture here too, even if I don’t love the result. XD
I love the poetic karma of the Phantom being the OP ship that gets eliminated via Runes of Odin. 😀

I need some advise on 4 four masted pirate ships that are of equal strength, etc… any recommendations?

I would simply go with the one that you like the best, or perhaps that looks the coolest.  I assume you’re trying to choose which one to use in an upcoming game?

    6.

Never thought of using playing cards, but I’m sure some kind of workable system could be figured out.

Since most terrain like Icebergs, Sargasso Sea, Trade Current, and Forts (technically not terrain) are hard to come by or out of print, how can noobs like myself fabricate this terrain to incorporate them into our play experience?

They’re all out of print, but none of those are extremely rare.  Just depends on the set in terms of which packs might have specific terrain or forts (latter of which were only in CC and RV).

You could cut out paper shapes and color them in and write “Reef”/etc on them.  In addition to printing out pictures.  In the Saved from MT post there is a link to the MT database pictures where some scans can be found. (might be too small for practical printing)

Don’t ever be sorry for “long” posts!  Imagine what went into some of my stuff.  XD

Is it possible to grab images of terrain from Vassal to print out for tabletop play including Forts, etc?

Yup; I would zoom in on the area and use the Snipping Tool or a similar thing on your computer to take a picture of the screen.  RV packs are readily available and there should be more than one fort available for individual sale; the actual forts are very cool.

By the way, how do I post a new topic in the Forum?

Go to the bottom of the main forum page and you should see the entry fields to make a new topic.

Welcome aboard!  I like the avatar.

Pirates captures everything I was wanting to do with beauty and simplicity that I would have spent more time and resources trying to do with LEGO. The scale would have been much bigger than Pirates. I prefer the scale Pirates uses freeing up more table space.

    Great points!!

I also live on the Coast of Georgia near the Pirates House in a town rich in naval colonial history.

Awesome, sounds like another place I should go so thanks for mentioning that!

Can anyone advise me the best place to get islands for terrain to make my ocean more realistic? I like the idea that Pirates provides islands, but I want something more 3-D.

Here are the islands made by Ross in AZ.  I have used some of them in my own games and highly recommend them!  I also recommend making your own, though it can be messy and time consuming.

He also does trades with them, naturally depending on what you have to offer.

How do you organize your collections? What is the best ways to store ships that is efficient but easy to find ships and all their parts?

You can see my collection in the 2014 Fleet Review and the Collection Review Series.

To find ships easily, you could try Plano boxes or some kind of divider system that you could use to sort ships individually or by criteria such as “French 5 masters”, “Cursed Pokeships” /etc.
