Keymaster(moved from the Intros thread)
I went to the store link to try and find the decals but was unable to locate them.
Ah, I think I misunderstood you. I’m selling finished products that people can use in games, not bulk supplies.
I have STLs for all of the ships but don’t know if they are already scaled to the ships in the game.
That can be a tricky element of it; they should be matched to the game’s scale but sometimes have minor differences. Which URL did you get the STL’s from?
How do you 3D print PLA? I only know of FDM.
FDM is what I use to print PLA.
Would it not be easier to use a Cricut instead?
That would be for cutting the decals, not 3D printing.
Ben
Keymasternow if we can just get someone to handle decals? If I had the expertise I would do it! Anyhow it is great to be back and I look forward to seeing the continued progress of this game for current generations to experience.
Ahoy, I am doing decals every week. Various products at the Store with more to come. 🙂

KeymasterNow available: Oak Island!
Especially for fans of The Curse of Oak Island TV show, this is the perfect thing to bring into your Pirates games! Could also work well with themed/region games such as New World discovery, American Revolution scenario, etc.

KeymasterAm I able to use a crew such as Screaming Mimi to pull opponents from a fog bank?
A move action is required to exit.
secondly regarding fog hopping, fog banks used by smokepot specialists are placed (not rolled for like other specialists) on that players turn but are removed before any actions are made on that same players following turn. If the players ships aren’t pulled from the fog before the start of that players next turn, is the ship removed from play when the fog bank is removed?
No, unless it doesn’t exit a fog bank that turn: (page 28 of the Code)
–When the fog bank is removed at the beginning of your turn, you may choose to roll and place this ship immediately (per normal the rules for smokepots) or you may choose to have it remain “inside” the fog. If it remains in the fog, the ship must exit another fog bank before the end of your turn; if it does not exit, it is removed from the game instead.

KeymasterNeat to see one with all 7 cannons. Aekel could be particularly nasty with some speed boosting, S-boarding while submerged – especially with nothing to lose.
Ben
KeymasterHopefully the following clears it up.
Looks good to me!

Keymastera leviathan can attack submerged ships.
I would clarify what this means – can shoot at submerged ships, can ram them, etc.
After winning a boarding action
I would change it to “boarding party”, but that’s more of just my opinion on it.
Does 30 points for the example leviathan feel fair or still too cheap for what the keyword can do as-is?
With the updated version, I think it could work now. I was most concerned about the possibility of getting pinned and having almost no recourse for it.
Ben
KeymasterA submerged Leviathan may ram another ship, the rammed ship becomes pinned instead, and it may board.
This troubles me – how is the pinned ship supposed to retaliate? It sounds like they can essentially be frozen in place indefinitely from the pin unless they can cancel the Leviathan keyword/etc.
I assume the “it may board” refers to the Leviathan? One could argue that is in reference to the rammed ship instead. Perhaps “A submerged Leviathan may ram and board another ship; the rammed ship becomes pinned instead.”
A lightning attack allows a Leviathan to attack any one target (regardless of its submerged status and including submerged ships) with a 2L range and rank of 2, measured from the cannon on the leviathan’s head.
Assuming I understand the intent clearly, this is how I would word it: “A lightning attack can be initiated even if the Leviathan is submerged, and allows a Leviathan a rank-2 attack against any one target (including submerged ships) within L+L of its head.”
This is assuming “its submerged status” is in regards to the Leviathan, because if it’s in reference to any enemy submerged ship, that part is already covered by the part in parentheses.
After a Leviathan resolves a move action, as a free action it may repair any one missing segment.
This is very powerful, I could see it doing this repeatedly after an engagement goes poorly. Just submerge and then repair for free en route to the next target… scary stuff!
If I understand it right, I just find the potential lack of counters slightly alarming. You could stay submerged, pin an enemy, and then slam them with lightning until they have no masts, risking nothing in the process unless they have Canceller or “shoot at submerged”/etc.

KeymasterPirates of the Golden Seas is now viewable on PSMList! (complete with full card gallery)

KeymasterI played a bit about 10 years ago, but I’m not going to pick this back up. I’m trying to figure out the correct / easiest way to sell these.
Are there some chase card lists I should double-check first then bulk sell? Something else? Open to ideas and suggestions. Cheers.
I would check Gladius’ price histories to see if you’ve got some of the valuable stuff. The most updated versions are in the Buy/Sell/Trade Facebook group for this game, which could also be a good place to sell stuff.

KeymasterAlmost never see these sealed anymore: PotC tins and a Treasure Chest tin (affiliate link)

KeymasterHere is the latest master artwork template – for full art custom crew.
To get the card background on the front to look right, line your card background up with the card dimensions, have it just underneath the Clipping Path in the layers panel, then go to Object>Clip>Set Clip to crop it to the pattern.
I don’t have all the crew chips with artwork bleed done yet, but they will be available in an Artwork Assets folder eventually

Pirates CSG Podcast #68: 3D Printing and Making Ships with Vulkan of CustomPiratesCSG!
Vulkan is one of the modern legends of Pirates CSG, having pioneered a DIY method of producing both custom and replica ships via 3D printing and decaling. His efforts from 2021 and beyond have been instrumental in the game’s continuation. He was also a key collaborator in the development of Pirates of the Golden Seas, as his knowledge and expertise greatly helped shorten my learning curve and 3D printing troubleshooting.

KeymasterAfter 1000+ total hours and a gigantic amount of passion and effort, Pirates of the Golden Seas is out now!
I recommend reading the entire product description before purchasing – I’ve been very transparent about the flaws of the production method.
Wow sold out in about an hour! O_O Thanks fellow brethren of the seas!

KeymasterMaybe I’ve been playing icebergs wrong all these years…. (emphasis added)
For each iceberg that will move, roll another d6 and match the result to the number printed around the iceberg’s edge.
Does that mean that for each iceberg that will move based on the initial roll, a separate d6 roll is required for every single iceberg that moves that turn?
I’ve always played that they all move with the same number of the 2nd roll (which is usually still in different directions), but perhaps I never read that sentence closely enough.

KeymasterPirates of the Golden Seas will be released on Saturday August 10th!
I am currently on schedule to get the set out next weekend. It is very exciting to see the end goal directly in my sights. As previously announced, there will be 10 copies available to start with, because each set is essentially a hand-made item and the production process is extremely laborious and time consuming. I expect the set to be about $235+$15 shipping, though that is subject to change. (if that sounds like a lot, consider that I’m over 1000 hours deep into this project, with considerable startup costs)
I am not doing preorders right now because it would effectively work the same as if it’s simply first-come first-serve on the release date – just a matter of who gets the news fastest and/or is available to make a purchase at that time (the only difference being when the purchase takes place – in advance or when the set is actually ready).

KeymasterThis is the first master artwork template. It is named “5ML” – my abbreviation for 5 Mast Later (5 Mast square rigged, later mast design – PotC set onwards with no pennants).
The idea is that this file can be used to create new ships, in a format that is compatible with multiple production methods – there is a sublayer for the decal outlines that I use (in white), while also preserving original cut lines that would be used in laser cutting and possibly other production methods as well (such as die/press cut).
It was created in Inkscape (free vector graphics software) from a wide variety of files, mostly based on Adobe Illustrator card files from Gigi. I have gotten his enthusiastic permission to share work resulting from his files, and the artwork assets he has made for the deck artwork/etc. Long term I hope to establish and share a database file for artwork assets to be used on custom ships – for deck/sail/hull artwork. For the templates, I aim for simplicity and a basic design that can then be edited and layered over for more unique and interesting ship designs. This one is a “share copy” with any relevant images embedded – Inkscape works better when images are just linked from a location on your local hard drive, but the file wouldn’t work properly the first time if you don’t already have all those same images on your computer. Unfortunately this brings the file size from 2.9MB to 6.3MB, so hopefully I’ll figure out a solution at some point so a shareable file with linked images makes more sense. (possibly by sharing an “all in one” image/artwork assets folder)
The template took me somewhere between 11-16 hours to make, though any others should be less time consuming now that I have the first one done (since I know the process, and some ships come on less than 3 cards). I plan to make a trio of videos about the templates in the coming months – first an overview of what a master artwork template is, what it’s for, how it’s organized, etc. Second, a tutorial on how to make custom ship artwork in Inkscape using one of the templates. Third, a full walkthrough of how I make one of the templates from start to finish.
I’m open to the possibility of getting help finishing templates for the different ship types, but I do think any “master templates” created should be held to a high standard – it’s much easier to make a custom ship when every layer/group/object is appropriately labeled, in the correct spot, and in a logical order from top to bottom in the file. They are extremely time consuming and detail oriented. It looks like there are 47 different ship types in total counting all variations, so don’t expect fast progress on these getting done.
For now, feel free to provide feedback on the template, especially if you’ve used Inkscape before. Custom ship artwork can be created in a variety of programs – I started with Adobe Illustrator but have switched to Inkscape because the latter is free. I didn’t want to make a template in Illustrator and have the files essentially under a paywall where you can only use them if you have an Adobe subscription; plus I wanted to save my own money and just go with the free option so custom ship creation can be more palatable as a hobby for years to come. I hope to make custom ship creation more accessible to everyone, since I see it as one of the major barriers to making custom sets come to life.

KeymasterSoon we’ll be live on youtube for Spanish Main 20th Anniversary Games!
Ben
KeymasterWoelf, do you happen to have an FAQ or multiplayer rules document from 2004 or 2005 from before Crimson Coast came out? I peeked around here and BGG a bit but didn’t find a document.
A few of us are planning to play a 30 point game on the 20th anniversary of SM (7/28) and we’ll be using only rules that were published for SM.

KeymasterAre silver coins able to be transferred between ships similar to gold coins using UPS strategies or are they only able to be transferred amongst ships with silver explorers.
Yes, they can be transferred with the Captain Jack Sparrow ability.
My understanding is one only needs a silver explorer to load silver treasure from a wild island after which the silver coin would be treated as normal treasure once aboard a ship. Is this correct?
Any ship capable of loading treasure can load silver coins, not just those with a silver explorer.
Silver coins are generally treated as normal treasure.
The +1 bonus only comes from the ship unloading the silver treasure at your home island, regardless of transfers and whether or not the ship that originally loaded the treasure had a silver explorer as well.

KeymasterI have finished my quarterly update of the Scan Project. Scans from Q2 that were in the New Submissions folder have been moved to their appropriate subfolders in the Old Submissions folder. The Master Scan List is up to date.
Thanks to those who submitted scans! (Baltimore8, Serge.Simon, Narcissa Nightshade)
