We are back! Report 5 is now up!

Exciting stuff, glad to know that things are progressing!  😉

On the other hand, there are things like suicide fleets designed specifically to end the game as quickly as possible, with just enough of an advantage to claim the win, or simply to irritate other players who had longer-term plans.

Have you seen fleets like that be effective at winning games?  Unless there are always icebergs around, it seems like it would be tough to suicide at the right time after getting enough gold.

I love your idea about fixing the gold bonus abilities.

Connecting that back to the above issue, unloading treasure to your home island could be made entirely optional as long as other endgame triggers are used.   The gold on ships can counts the same as gold at home or in forts, ships could carry it around as long as they wanted.

Do you think that only one player being able to give future move actions would be the optimal endgame trigger if gold on ships counted towards victory?  I’m wondering about how to tie that in to the points in play house rule.

@georgee: Great story, thanks for sharing!

Maybe see if anyone still does any gaming with it too, though I am completely out of the loop on how I would even go about that.

The VASSAL module is a way to play Pirates CSG virtually.

If you’re looking for physical games in your local area, the Player Locator map might help.  🙂  Welcome aboard!

From my game with Captain Randy and Curren in Las Vegas today:

Can you target a ship that cannot be shot at while docked with Neptune’s Trident?

Can you finish taking treasures from an island that the Whirlpool UT is found on?

Can turtles be moved under the hull of a 10 master to essentially stop it when it has to move and immediately hits a turtle?

It’s probably not even remotely worth the effort/cost required to do it, but it is possible.

And then you get the Eye of Maru aboard (from RtSS) for a 16L freak cannon?  XD

Today is June 27th 2021.  10 years ago today I joined Miniature Trading!  Although the site shut down on July 1st 2019, it was the hub of Pirates CSG on the internet for about the full 11 years since Wizkids shut down on November 10th 2008.

I made a youtube video of MT in its final days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNUolUn2s3w

Privateer pieces are not eliminated if they dock at an island that shares a port and a fort.

Is that only possible/relevant at Voya Nui?

Is it ever confusing switching back and forth between CoEC and CG4 due to the rules differences?  Though I suppose the digital vs. physical aspect might make it easier.  Maybe some aspects of CoEC could be adapted into CG4, though I’d prefer unanimous agreement among all 3 of us for that to happen.

I like the CTO-esque twist with the map.  Should make for some fun exploration moments!

I’m excited to see this in person in a few weeks, and maybe observe a turn!

Do you mind revealing who controls each faction?  I need to know who to bribe…. 😉

I controlled the Spanish and the Cursed.

    Congrats and huzzah!

However, he’s controlling them again for this year and has literally been plotting and strategizing since they were eliminated.

Nice, hopefully I’ll see them in action before too long.

It’ll be weird starting CG5 for when Cg4 eventually ends.

    That might be an if….

    …something has only barely begun…. O_O

Absolutely staggering.  O_O  That is amazing that only THIS turn (that I’m currently working on) in CG4 will beat either of those fleets for ship and point counts (with the Pirates of course).  Insane that you had two fleets in one game that were BOTH bigger than ANY previous fleets ever seen, by both ship (previous high 131 by Pirates in CTO, or 148 by CG4 Pirates last round) and point count (previous high 2533 by CG4 Pirates, though it was likely higher than these CoEC 2020 Pirates by the end of the last round).

I have updated the All Time Records post.  You three now have the second biggest game ever, in addition to the two biggest fleets ever seen!  Of course, CG4 and my Pirates in that game are poised to take over both of those records in a matter of days…. though I’m not sure if CG4 will top CTO for biggest game ever this round.

Who controlled each of the 6 factions?  Would be great to know for updating our all time data spreadsheet.

How the hell did Spain get their 1000 gold coin from the Branwen??!

I won’t be too happy with the Spanish if the Pirates narrowly beat them in ship count at the end partly as a result of this truce… all very interesting nonetheless.  And maybe the Spanish didn’t know at the time that the end was near….

I said whoa out loud like 3 times when I saw that Branwen move.  THAT’S THE KINDA PLAY I’M TALKING ABOUT!! XD  😀

I love how the Spanish protected El Acorazado.

Really impressed by that random group of Furia, Antamasia, and Clear Wind.  They did a great job.

17:19 is a picture of the year candidate IMO.  Especially at full screen.  Not only showing the forest of masts, but colorful, sunlight, and lots of interesting stuff to look at.

GREAT use of Periscope!!  Impressive how it can go through the double defenses like that.

Have you considered having fire stuff only work with the 2 hits/mast rule?  Like we’re doing in CG4, where fire stuff doesn’t bypass that rule like it normally does.

Glad the Spanish are trying hard to preserve the Santisima Trinidad.

That Baochuan town capture was epic to me, nice appearance all of a sudden and coup by the Pirates.

Wow the Zeus is basically running over the VW and Divine Wind!

Can Windcatcher be copied to a 10 master to allow it the 180 rotation?

The Code says: “-If part of a keyword refers to a specific ship type, such as catamaran or submarine, that part can be used only by ships of that ship type. Copying a keyword does not change a ship’s type.”  Windcatcher starts with “when a ship with this keyword”….

    Inspired by Tilorfire27’s video…

31 point Hai Peng combo: Captain Jack Sparrow (common version), Jonah, Anamaria, LE Griffin, helmsman.  S+L+S+L+S speed.  Probably coming to a UPS fleet near you someday.   XD

Trying to think of the fastest 10 master.  Even including Zhanfu is an option doesn’t really help since she can’t crew combo like other factions.

Delusion + DJC Davy Jones (copying Hai Peng’s +L captain bonus), captain, helmsman, Cavendish, LE Griffin gets her to L+S+L+S, which is only S slower than the Hai Peng’s potential max.  Only 26 points worth of crew so there’s additional opportunity for maxing out the setup overall – maybe OE Fantasma for Sac Captain, or go wild with Nemo/etc….

Shui Xian can do this with Brother Virgil, but since she’s only 25 points you have to add Robinson to make it work.

I think Corodum could be simplified in the wording.  Something like “For every turn this ship is not docked at your home island, add 1 gold to the value of this treasure to maximum of +5” to eliminate some of the redundant verbiage.  You also don’t need the word “but” at the beginning of any sentences.

I assume Turkish Delight has a minimum value of 0 and cannot be negative?  I don’t think my fleets would ever get much value out of it heh, but not bad for a swarm fleet with minimal crew.

All three look fair and playable!

(spoiler alert) I like how the strategy makes sense – that the Pirates would wait until the opportune moment to strike, and that the Spanish and French might be able to make amends seeing a common foe.

Nice action.  The pileup in that fog bank reminds me of my current CG4 turn.

Someday (likely for me in CG4) there will be a “customsgeddon” where there are far more customs in play than Wizkids ships, and nobody watching will have any idea what’s going on because they haven’t heard of any ships mentioned in a battle report.  XD  I like the 4 master with the Frontier masts, neat look.

Maybe I’m biased since they’re winning, but I think I’m rooting for Spain but still happy for the French for not being passive savers to the end.

HUGE thank you’s to Tilorfire27 (discord username) for his online database, and to jetmoto-1996 for his Full Catalog he so graciously shared and is allowing me to put on the site!  I have put links to both databases (which include pictures of the game pieces) on both my homepage and the Information and Stats page which is linked from the main menu.

My wife is sewing/quilting a playmat for me complete with non-skid backing. I plan on teaching her the game once that is finished.

    Did it happen?

I would love to buy another booster box! There’s something so cathartic about cracking 36 packs! I am also considering buying a plunder pack- I currently have no 10 masters,

    Did you buy both?

For me this year, I’d like to 3D print one of my custom ships and apply a decal to it that has custom artwork on it that I designed.

    How about you?

RIP to the first Inquisition ship both that I owned and that The Inquisitor did. I know I had a second one but pretty sure its sails broke too years ago. Inquisition fleets will never be the same.

At least it’s a common ship you can probably find for cheap!
