Figure I’d respond here too since someone asked in Discord rules.
I would think the assumption that a ‘Sea Monster’ defaults to sea creature rules if not stated would be incorrect. The ‘Sea Monster’ keyword says if the monster is surfaced, it acts as ship with the listed modifications (pin/board mods). It should be following the ship rules, not sea creature rules. That would mean cards like Empress (crew) and Ophidious continue making sense.
July 15, 2020 at 10:16 AM #11341Matt LovellParticipantI use penny sleeves, folded over and taped shut when I sell disassembled ships. keeps them secure and takes up less space.
November 6, 2019 at 8:43 AM #10106Matt LovellParticipantBeen a completist since I first started CCGs/CSG/TCG collecting. Trying not to pass that onto my son with Transformers.
Always been willing to go overboard on collecting Pirates. Buy a large lot for needing 2-3 ships. Buy a box when a pack will do. Or a case when a box would.
Most lately has been restocking packs for draft play. Down to the last 35ish singles for a full unpunched set (including all LE/SE/promo) so trades and buys are getting rare. Started making a list of needs for a play/punched set so maybe I’ll start small trades again soon.
I’ve always made sure that if I bought a lot, it had something I needed for sure. I leave the randomness to draft pack play.

October 8, 2019 at 12:46 PM #9841Matt LovellParticipantMy biggest issue with TrekCC was adding the existing cards into pdf for printing out what you wanted. Tanked most of the trade market beyond collectors of a few sets. I finally gave up and just culled 2/3’s of my trade-stock and mixed it in with deck stock.
Great idea though and it’s bought the game well over a decade since it ended.
As for Pirates. Both printing on styrene and using (basically) overlayed stickers to place new hulls/masts on existing cards both would have their own issues to work through.
October 4, 2019 at 9:05 AM #9778Matt LovellParticipantI’d prefer a list with all the sets on the same tab for searchability sake (but that’s why I maintain my own list). It also makes the list unfortunately long which I understand can be bothersome as well. (2425 lines on mine without including 2004/2005 islands or Ger. SM UL)
I’d say if anything having the extra ‘In collection’ column may be confusing to some (it shouldn’t be but it inevitably is) but I think it’s good for dual purpose of both collecting and trading tracker.
I’m a big fan of left alignment over center alignment for lists so the column breaks look cleaner.
I typically will go with a size 8 text, usually Calibri or arial narrow as a means of putting more data on the screen at once, though I know this often annoys people I work with worse off eyes.
My thoughts for you. Take ’em or leave ’em. Whatever works to get more trade/sell going on on site works for me 🙂 (and am willing to help as I can to make that happen, just let me know.)
September 17, 2019 at 12:04 PM #9645Matt LovellParticipantAny chance of back of pack picture as well?
September 15, 2019 at 2:32 PM #9631Matt LovellParticipantSince I mentioned actually posting here in my second FB group post earlier today, here goes.
I’ve only ever used pack drafts to make 40 point fleets, never just one made from my collection that I recall.

Nice getting it to complete the dragons. Totally over-traded for it.
August 1, 2019 at 9:01 AM #8466Matt LovellParticipantI will tentatively toss my hat in as a player. No VASSAL experience but have set a goal of trying it out this month.
Always been more of a pack-draft guy so it will also be a change of pace actually trying to make a fleet with more than a few options.
August 1, 2019 at 8:57 AM #8465Matt LovellParticipantHave cards from all expansions and almost all of those cards in them.
Favorite? I’ll go with Crimson Coast if I have to choose one. Why? Honestly forts, the French ships, and the brick red background for the cards. But I love the earlier ‘unique’ ship types-Junks from SCS, Corsairs in BC, Subs in MI (off topic-subs are the reason I bought a case of boxes of MI when I had the chance) so its not like CC is a clear cut winner for me.
Least favorite: Caribbean. Kind of went over why in another topic. This set just really needed a significant Cursed faction and could have had some nice minor faction stuff in it.
July 29, 2019 at 7:38 AM #8271Matt LovellParticipantand the FN equivalent in Polaris pack 300 Polaris, 301 Serpents Fang, (No 302), 303 Odin’s Revenge.
July 28, 2019 at 12:41 PM #8259Matt LovellParticipantBased outside of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Some travel near Philly PA and Orlando FL maybe 1/2 times a year.
Mostly do pack draft games but can work on a fleet if needed.
July 28, 2019 at 12:36 PM #8258Matt LovellParticipantEven as someone who generally considers himself a near OCD completionist, that shading difference for SM is just not something I want to try and tackle.
July 23, 2019 at 10:02 PM #8086Matt LovellParticipant<p style=”text-align: left;”>BC Unlimited 129 Captain</p>
I need only 40 items including things like a Ship in a bottle, Chummaker and Obago Deuce while this silly little common doesn’t want to show up in a pack. One day, I’m going to just start cracking the rest of my BC-U packs until I pull it or go crazy 😉
June 30, 2019 at 3:32 PM #6706Matt LovellParticipantI’m pretty sure it’s been getting hit hard by people waiting for the last day. Been trying to get my lesser game stuff today, very slowly. Finally dawning on people to back lists up.
Has been odd for it to have been working for the past week consistently though since they announced. If only they could have done that the past three months….
June 27, 2019 at 8:25 PM #6552Matt LovellParticipantBuilt in tower means my collection copy is built instead of unpunched and stored in the ship tower. Still working on that list.
Never messed with Goggle docs before so not sure on settings. Just dumped my excel file into it and deleted some of the tabs I didn’t need to share. Figure I’ll make some adjustments as I play with it.
June 27, 2019 at 7:13 PM #6550Matt LovellParticipantOk so since MT is about gone, and I was just starting to get into a nice upswing dealing there, here will be my first attempt at seeing if my google doc link will work and deal from here.
I do have a small (<50 items) wants tab and will trade well for them but most of this will be for sales. I do try and buy lots at very low pricing and try to pass that mostly on with my singles pricing. Not everyone wants to buy a large lot for a few cards and I try and accomadate. Feel free to PM me here or contact me through FB messenger via the FB sell/trade group.
(Ben: Let me know if this isn’t ok with you.)

June 26, 2019 at 9:25 AM #6481Matt LovellParticipantI miss games at LGS. Was nice showing up and occasionally getting to play against someone not my wife and maybe getting a tourney card out of it. Really need to try and get a date set up at our current LGS to play. Maybe convince others to pick up the game.
I miss finding the packs at stores. It was part of the fun for us to drive around seeing whether stores had restocked since our last raid or making a weekend trip to a new area and raiding the stores there for new treasure. Pulling them out of a drawer isn’t quite the same. I already have that treasure.
I still love breaking open new packs to play even knowing I have seen all the cards. Doesn’t mean I’ve played with them yet and that combination is a new challenge. So I don’t look forward to an eventuality of running out of sealed stuff due to nothing new coming out.
June 26, 2019 at 9:12 AM #6480Matt LovellParticipantMaybe a small change to shipwright needing to be on a ship only and not islands or some type of delay in its’ ability if it’s left on an island for a turn should work. Haven’t had time for a bunch of thought on this one yet. Not sure how well it’d work.
Or perhaps a shipyard type card required on an island where the shipwright could repair extra. I kind of feel shipyards were a missed opportunity in game.
Love the idea of creatures regenerating by eating crew. Just seems appropriate. Maybe a die roll similar to the discussed greater than # of masts for eating crew.
Some of the creatures seem like a single crew may not be enough meat for an entire mast like the sea dragons. Maybe something like eat crew equal to half a creatures segments rounded down, to regrow a segment. Shark would be fine eating a single crew while a kraken or sea dragon, as larger creatures would need to eat more to heal themselves.
June 20, 2019 at 11:29 AM #6233Matt LovellParticipantNot sure why it wasn’t displayed for Ben and Woelf. It appeared plastered on every page of MT I tried prior to posting here.
Just another annoying hiccup for MT I suppose
June 11, 2019 at 1:35 PM #5695Matt LovellParticipantSounds like a potentially fun ability.
May 30, 2019 at 9:08 AM #5331Matt LovellParticipantI mostly enjoyed the expansion because of the tie-in and it always seemed to me, that it had a higher number percentage wise of 5 Masters, though that is just a feeling, never ran the numbers.
Not that it was without gripes. As you mentioned, Cursed should have been a big part but I think Jade and Barbary could have had a few too. And never really like the UT items being added to the regular treasure cards.
Edit: Got bored. Did math for feeling. Caribbean certainly middle of the road for 5 Masters. MT used for data.
Edit 2: My table totally didn’t format correctly

May 24, 2019 at 8:48 AM #5186Matt LovellParticipantIt’s currently up again this morning.
I’ve taken to using their feedback system every time I can’t get it lately. Don’t know if it helps but just maybe it does
May 22, 2019 at 10:46 AM #5146Matt LovellParticipantSo as for value, I’m highly confident an OE rare can be gotten non-eBay for under $20. (Trying to stay on-topic of eBay).
May 21, 2019 at 12:53 PM #5118Matt LovellParticipantLove those displays and keep the ones we’ve got whole. Part of the reason the wife and I used to by whatever was left in those boxes. Stores were much less likely to say you couldn’t have the box if you were clearing inventory. The Plastic is often brittle or yellowed by now on the ‘out of box’ tops from those old purchases. Was nice to get new ones recently through Hills and lot purchases.
I wonder if anyone has a list of all available ones.
April 22, 2019 at 10:08 AM #4326Matt LovellParticipantI’d have to agree it had to have stayed fairly close to that throughout the run. There never has seemed to be a far off difference between rarities typically of what many other ccg’s I’ve played used. I think it’s helped non-Rares maintain their value for resale a lot better than the usual 1000’s of commons that seem to get junked in other games.
February 28, 2019 at 6:11 PM #3418Matt LovellParticipantWelcome aboard!
Pocket Model promos you say? May just have to message you about that. Sounds like you’d be someone that might have an actual accurate list for SW:PM and not just rumors.
