That’s a great looking ship & crew Ben! I’m looking forward to taking delivery of my copy in the near future!
May 25, 2021 at 8:15 PM #13227ChrisParticipantVery Nice! I haven’t seen one of those yet!
My nephew and I broke open 36 packs of Revolution on Saturday and found a nice selection including Black Swan, HMS Swallow, Bonhomme Richard, Constitution, Enterprise, 8 Unique Treasures, etc.
May 24, 2021 at 3:41 PM #13217ChrisParticipantSo which custom ships do you like better? The wooden variety from Cloud of Craft? Or the 3D printed versions offered by Vulkan?
May 21, 2021 at 4:44 PM #13212ChrisParticipantAlso, my wife & mother-in-law were kind enough to make me a custom, quilted playmat for Pirates! It looks FANTASTIC!
May 21, 2021 at 4:19 PM #13211ChrisParticipantMay 21, 2021 at 4:15 PM #13210ChrisParticipantI just saw those the other day for the first time and they look pretty good! My only concern would be exact/precise measurements from the ends of them.
You do not measure off the ends. There are divots on the sides, bisecting the magnets, that mark the movement/range distance.
May 12, 2021 at 8:48 PM #13172ChrisParticipantI just purchased both of the Gale Force Nine island sets from Noble Knight Games as a bundled deal for a great price. Check it out!
May 5, 2021 at 10:20 PM #13147ChrisParticipantPS: How did your complete inventory go?
Thanks for asking, it went well! Introduced my nephew to the basics of the game and looking to start building him a fleet.
May 5, 2021 at 5:38 PM #13142ChrisParticipantI realize this is an old thread, but how did the process work for a custom ship? Did you submit artwork for the piece? Or is it just the ship’s name, stats, & special ability(s)?
April 23, 2021 at 2:00 PM #13116ChrisParticipantThanks for the info! I’ll look into those options.
April 22, 2021 at 5:13 PM #13114ChrisParticipantI realize this is an old thread, but I wanted to add that I’m looking at getting a couple sets of the GF9 islands. Also I found these great magnetic maneuver/range markers available on Etsy.
April 18, 2021 at 7:23 AM #13110ChrisParticipantI have a nephew I’m looking to introduce Pirates to. He has an interest in dragons and other fantasy elements. Which faction(s) offer the most in that realm?
December 13, 2020 at 10:53 PM #13010ChrisParticipantThe fort is quite impressive! 3D printing has really opened up the possibilities for new and/or custom Pirates material.
April 8, 2020 at 9:51 PM #10807ChrisParticipantMy wife is sewing/quilting a playmat for me complete with non-skid backing. I plan on teaching her the game once that is finished.
April 8, 2020 at 4:00 PM #10799ChrisParticipantI just opened a Revolution Special Edition Box! In addition to the Franklin, I pulled some nice ships like the Panda, HMS Swallow & the Unique Treasure Sextant.
November 16, 2019 at 7:38 PM #10212ChrisParticipantGood Luck in the Navy Ben! Look forward to hearing from you when you can!
April 15, 2019 at 8:19 PM #4249ChrisParticipantI really appreciate how much work can be done with just a captain/helmsman combo. Especially if you are engaging in any hit-and-run play or cutting off a gold runner’s escape.
April 15, 2019 at 8:00 PM #4247ChrisParticipantGreat podcast with Mike Selinker! I felt he shed a fair amount of light onto the inner workings and the development of Pirates.
QotD: Yes, I would have loved to seen the Dutch implemented into the game. I imagine their faction would be heavy gold runners with warships that could go toe-to-toe with the English any day of the week. Perhaps their crew would get bonuses against the English. Or specialize in capturing English vessels… (Read the story of the Dutch capture of the Royal Charles in 1667)

March 28, 2019 at 6:24 PM #4024ChrisParticipantI generally utilize a dry-erase marker to cross out the affected mast(s) on the ships base plate.
February 9, 2019 at 7:45 AM #3135ChrisParticipantHas anyone in the Pirating community played a PC game titled East India Company? It’s a decent game in the age of sail.
February 7, 2019 at 9:11 PM #3112ChrisParticipantIn a somewhat related topic, I recently watched this neat program on the BBC about the Spanish Armada. I think you might enjoy it!
February 4, 2019 at 6:37 PM #3031ChrisParticipantIf you are willing to go a bit unconventional, the themes to Star Trek First Contact or Voyager are simply stunning. You cannot go wrong with some Jerry Goldsmith!
February 4, 2019 at 6:09 PM #3028ChrisParticipantI enjoyed the casual discussion on all things Pirates. Thanks for posting it! As a topic you may want to discuss, what are your thoughts on the current market of Pirates items? Is it still overall a sellers market? Or have prices started to shift back towards the buyer again?
February 3, 2019 at 4:56 PM #3012ChrisParticipantHard to believe we are at podcast 40… That’s a lot of Pirates content!
February 3, 2019 at 4:53 PM #3011ChrisParticipantSome tracks I enjoy would include the Dropkick Murphys, some Muse, and some E.S. Posthumus.
The soundtrack from Master And Commander may provide you with some inspiration….
January 23, 2019 at 7:48 PM #2822ChrisParticipantI personally like the idea! I think guidelines or a clear list of the ability costs would help curb OP builds. I would like to see a “generic” sailing/warship art for the cards and then the player would fill in the name, cannons, cargo, speed, & ability(s). Add up all the factors and there is your point value.
January 22, 2019 at 8:40 PM #2816ChrisParticipantThank you for getting me an answer so quickly!
January 22, 2019 at 8:19 PM #2812ChrisParticipantI have a question, Does Ruth Lee reduce reduce the cost of Native Canoes?
January 19, 2019 at 10:24 PM #2766ChrisParticipantYay! the first Pirates podcast of 2019! I really appreciate the work that has gone into producing the content.
November 27, 2018 at 9:40 PM #2206ChrisParticipantWell, since you asked, I would like to hear a discussion on various historical ships represented in the game. Perhaps comparing/contrasting their role and setup in the game as opposed to reality. Why some persons or ships never made it into the game. For example, why no HMS Victory or Lord Nelson? Why is the Philadelphia a 2-masted blockade runner in game when it actually was a 36-gun frigate in real life? Just some thoughts to consider!
