KeymasterIf Wolves is face up on a wild island, Royal Decree can’t pick anything from that island; it has to pull from elsewhere.
I think the Code entry for Wolves should probably include a note about needing to keep it face up once revealed. The part about it needing to be hit for elimination implies that, but it’s a little odd that it doesn’t say so explicitly. I could also see a newer player finding it, keeping it hidden, and then not taking any treasure from the island while bluffing that they didn’t want to (whereas Wolves should become known to all players).
Noticing a pretty huge discrepancy in the wording for the Explore Action. The Start Here rules state:
If you’re docked at a wild island, you can take treasure.
Complete Game rules state:
If a ship begins one of your turns docked at a wild island
I’ve never played that a ship has to begin a player turn docked at a wild island to explore that turn (even making the distinction to “her” turn as a specific ship would be very important for something like Hidden Cove, a staple of competitive play). She should be able to dock, then potentially get an extra action to explore.
It’s a bit odd to me that the Complete Game rules should be the incorrect ones here, since normally the Start Here rules contain the annoying discrepancies that got fixed with the Complete Game rules or Code. (Such as not looking at coins while exploring. It’s still odd to me that the wording for that made it into the game – it would make sense for one set if Spanish Main had no UT’s, but if players pull a UT out of their first pack, the game will probably have an asterisk for the “error” caused by the bad rule)
On that note, thanks again as always for keeping up with this so consistently over the years. The more I dig into things, the more discrepancies and gray areas I find. I thought by now this thread would be less active, but it seems there will be no end to new rules questions!

KeymasterDoes anything strange happen if the Wolves UT is teleported straight to your home island? (such as by one of the Royal Decree UT’s, or a Mysterious Island effect) This old review makes me think not, but I want to be sure.
I was slightly hopeful it might prevent HI raiding, but it specifies a wild island in the ability text.

KeymasterMy latest fleet: Delay of Game
When you love the game so much, you don’t let it end. XDI’ve also recently published some new fleet making videos, and there will be more on the way. 🙂 It’s going to be a great year for making fleets and playing! 😀

Keymaster2) A player has unloaded more than half of the game’s starting gold value onto his or her home island.
–The gold value required to trigger this end condition is determined during setup, before the game begins. Abilities or effects that increase or decrease the actual gold value in play during the game do not change that required value.
Is the last sentence mainly to reduce confusion? (with lots of +1/+2 abilities and gold-bearing UT’s potentially in play)
I don’t think it’s a bad rule, but certain competitive fleets that abuse the gold bonus abilities certainly have an interesting way to exploit it (sometimes by flinging gold home that gets increased in value, sometimes allowing a fleet to win with spoils from just one island or a couple original coins).

KeymasterThank you!
nextjr is wondering:
Could a submerged submarine be hit by Neptune’s Trident, and if so if it’s the Nautilus submarine does it take two hull pieces of damage or one because of its defensive ability?
Would holy water save a submerged submarine being fired upon by a ship that has an ability can shoot submerged ships

KeymasterNice game! Love the pictures with the effects. Did you use Photoshop to make them?

KeymasterI don’t think I’ve allowed factions to suddenly show up; I will have to try that…
It’s definitely not great for parity or rules, more for the narrative element. Nowadays I generally prefer to play campaign games 100% “by the book” (rules and custom rules), without random personal elements thrown in. It’s fun to try a few times though!

KeymasterTo reduce spam from bots and nefarious actors, a new member’s first forum post must be approved by me. This is why you may not see your first post appear immediately; it goes into a queue where I will review it and likely approve it. Once a user has their first forum post approved, subsequent posts they make should appear on the forum right away without requiring approval.

KeymasterWelcome aboard matey!
I think I love this game because it’s theme, it’s very adaptable (can add or remove rules to make it more simple or complex), gives a high degree of freedom (I can add or change rules and the game keeps working) and can be really fun to play.
Love this! I agree completely. It can be a very “modular” game.
(sometimes I like to spice my games with backgrounds, special objectives for each faction etc, to the point of bend the rules for specific scenarios or even specific situations; the fact that I play 100% solo gave me the idea, it creates a sort of virtual opponent).
I’ve done that a bit too, especially in my Experimental cumulative game.

KeymasterWho rolls the d6 for the ability of Paradis de la Mer, the fort controller or the player shooting at it?
“The first time this fort is shot at each turn, roll a d6. The result is the number of times this fort must be hit that turn before any of its cannons can be eliminated.”
I also think the Pirate Code entry about it is a bit confusing – the ability to me says that if you roll a 4, it ignores the first 4 hits and the 5th hit will take out a flag. But this line indicates otherwise:
-The d6 result is the number of hits required to eliminate the first flag only; it is not the number of hits required to remove each flag. For example, if a result of 4 was rolled, the fourth hit will remove one flag. The fifth hit and every subsequent hit this turn will remove one flag each.
From Tilorfire27:
Does Seleucis move another sea monster Seleucis’ speed or the target monster’s speed?
Can Davy Jones copy Intermediario? It says if this sea creature, but could a vanilla ship copy it?
-Also in the Pirate Code, for the Intermediario entry it lists the ability as “if this sea monster” instead of sea creature. (card does say sea creature)

KeymasterHere is the new home for the Scan Project. Going forward, I will be the primary point of contact and steward for it. The Submission Guide remains the same. The Master Scan List has been updated, but there may be some errors. My tentative plan is to update the Master Scan List at least once per quarter. There are still some cards we need scans of – if you check the Master Scan List and it’s empty for something you have, feel free to scan it (preferably a PNG at 600 dpi) and upload to the New Submissions folder.
If you are able to edit and improve the scans in Old Submissions, feel free to upload the “perfect” versions to the folder “Edited Versions of Submissions”. From there I can put them in Finished Scans if adequate and after any potential file renaming is completed. There is an extra folder called PSD files that contains the files that WayofthePixel (formerly thunderbros99) sent me. Feel free to use those and convert them to finished copies if you’re able. (those exported PNGs can also go in the Edited Versions folder)
Here are the links to it that you may want to bookmark for easy reference.

KeymasterMight be a bit of an odd question, and/or a tough one to answer:
What is your favorite treasure distribution? (standard 8 coins for 15 gold, or otherwise)
Ex: 7,7,1 and 5 specific UT’s, or seven 2’s and a 1, etc.
Ben
KeymasterGiven that, could the point cost come down if I don’t give it a range extender?
I personally think so. I do think the ability will come into play often enough to be useful, but it still doesn’t feel like more than a 10-11 point ship.
Shuri looks like a fun scout hybrid!

KeymasterGrand Boulder is somewhat powerful, though I still think Repeating Guns should be a cheaper keyword. I know I’m a bad example, but I would almost never get to benefit from it. XD
Based on her flavor text, I think an alternate ability could work too: +1 to cannon rolls when she is given a shoot action (rather than shooting in general, which will usually be as part of a move action). That way the cannons get a bonus when she stays in place to shoot.
Grand Jungle is quite interesting, would make for the cheapest 3 master in the game. In her flavor text, do you mean shallow draft rather than deep draft? (with the hull not sticking as far down, to avoid the weeds)

KeymasterIn about 2 weeks I’ll be starting the annual End of Year thread. Feel free to start brainstorming some of the categories for your own experience of PCSG this year, such as favorite picture, favorite game/moment, etc. 🙂

KeymasterIf an L-mover forces a ship onto a whirlpool, which player decides if that ship goes through and where it ends up? (the moving player or the original controller?)
“Give this ship a move action but do not move her. Instead, roll a d6. On a result of 5 or 6, move an enemy ship L in any direction.”

KeymasterHappy to be on the podium for another BGG monthly photo contest. 🙂 Feel free to vote for my outdoor pic for this month.

KeymasterThe Wikipedia page for the game has been heavily edited and cut down by others due to the page supposedly not adhering to Wikipedia’s rules. I have preserved the older version with valuable collecting information here in this post.
