ParticipantBen, I got a lot of inspiration for the party from your & others’ epic games; got the idea for ships as cake toppers from the FB group; got the
idea to do a theme because I planned my husband’s 50th bday a couple months ago w/a dinosaurs theme. 😉September 10, 2019 at 1:58 PM #9613J_ARRRRR_P
ParticipantOk, this is painfully specific:
Next March, for my birthday, the party theme will be pirates. Nine of us will drive 45 mins one way to eat lunch at a Long John Silver’s (I can hear y’all LOL or groan as you read this), then return home to where I’ve readied the dining room table for a five-person Pirates CSG game (some friends don’t game but enjoy being viewers), fleets ready-built & to be assigned by random draw. At least (3) of the fleets will include a 10-mast ship (Baochuan – Delusion – Shui Xian – more if I can acquire them by then). The GF9 islands sets will be used and/or any custom ones I construct this Winter.
Oh yeah, and presiding over us will be a bunch of helium-balloon sharks and cephalopods.
And the cake will be topped with any Longships not used in the game fleets. 😉How’s that for “fancy?!”

ParticipantWell, I’m not proud of it, but I’m not that experienced of a player. Friends look at my vast collection & think I must know the game inside & out, so if I try to bring them into play, they get a good laugh (translation: their good-natured frustration) at how I still have to look up a lot of things. I watch Ben’s or other folks game vids & feel like a kid in the shallow end of the pool with water wings on looking at Olympic-level swimmers. LOL
Room for improvement is fine but I do regret that I didn’t challenge myself to play in tournaments in my LGS back when those were common, to learn & grow.

Search – of course!
Good to see you here!

ParticipantLove those displays and keep the ones we’ve got whole. Part of the reason the wife and I used to by whatever was left in those boxes. Stores were much less likely to say you couldn’t have the box if you were clearing inventory.
Yes, no other items in my collection hit the nostalgia button as do the empty boxes w/a linked 😉 topper. I’m right back w/the joy of opening new release packs & thrilled that my LGS had allowed me to take those “bonuses” home. Other bonuses would be the occasional promo or tournament pack.
It’s blasphemy that some of y’all dismantled the toppers for play! J/K, I can totally see that.

ParticipantThey would have been better off just making a single set of rules that combined both versions. Take the useful illustrations and assemblies from the basic set and incorporate them directly into the sheet with the full rules.
Yes, indeedy! It’s frustrating to try to initiate a new player when they see the explore action contradiction 1st thing; sets up wanting to question every other instruction.

ParticipantJust printed out Cadet-Captain Mike’s List of Top Ten[s] for my rules & strategies binder; that is fantastic!

ParticipantSo, I have a DPotC island printed w/112 graphics but cut from the die for 109, “flipped.” Will take some pics when I can so y’all can see this weirdness for yourselves…
Obviously, a machining error.

ParticipantI always get a chuckle every time I see the Ocean’s Edge Deliverance. If I remember right. One of the sails has 2 different cannons on either side and both are different from what’s printed on the card. ?
Paddle faster, I hear banjo music!
Yup, that one’s a mess!

ParticipantLeast favorite: Caribbean. Kind of went over why in another topic. This set just really needed a significant Cursed faction and could have had some nice minor faction stuff in it.
That’s pretty much how I felt about it, as well. A shame…
July 31, 2019 at 9:08 PM #8460J_ARRRRR_P
ParticipantSimilarly, I have them all – so maddeningly close to complete!
Discovered this week whilst pulling a pretty sizable assortment from my “double dupes,” that I really love SCS. The assortment is for a friend new to the game, and because I had comparatively little from SCS to give to him, it emphasized what a player would be missing from a lack of those cards.
I’m also fond of DJC, despite it’s literal many flaws. The Cursed faction has great thematic appeal; clear Cthulhu Mythos influence. Ia! Ia!

ParticipantThese are out there…I mean, they’re “really out there“, LOL!

ParticipantSorry and I’m trying to fix it.
Thanks, Ben – was more than willing to believe it was me, doin’ somethin’ wrong…

ParticipantI’ve been trying – unsuccessfully – to embed a link to the Pinnacle Entertainment Group, publishers of the 2007 Pirates of the Spanish Main RPG hardback book which mashed up our beloved CSG w/the Savage Worlds roleplaying platform.
Anyway, at the publisher’s website are some free downloads of One Sheets for GM use. They are a fun bit of PotSM weirdness, IMO.

ParticipantPurchased one of the 2007 Pirates of the Spanish Main RPG (Savage Worlds) hardbound books today, at my OOP-friendly neighborhood games shop.
It’s like the blue Mountain Dew “Liberty Brew” my husband brought home a couple days ago…
I want to enjoy it, but…hmmmm…Really, just weird.
Here’s a link to the publisher’s website: https://www.peginc.com/product-category/pirates/
There are (3) One Sheets for free download which tie-in.

ParticipantPP-376 – the 12 pt. promo version of SM Revenge – was hard for me to get. I don’t remember the specifics, sorry – just that it was a relief to finally have that one “checked off.”
Others may have had a different experience…

ParticipantHAVE:
SM PS-017 card 2/2 unp
RotF 037 card 1/2 unp

ParticipantThank you, Matt, for your take on the color variance re. collectability.
SM anomaly: In the Ghost LEs, there’s GC-001, and GC-003, BUT NO GC-002. Arrrrrgh!

ParticipantWow, guys! That is so awesome (your Customs)! I’m totally reeled in!
July 27, 2019 at 5:39 PM #8220J_ARRRRR_P
Participant@Ben: DO IT! Bling the heck out of a Locker and take her out on the prowl! I miss customizing, you’re gonna pull me back into that, too…
July 27, 2019 at 5:33 PM #8219J_ARRRRR_P
ParticipantPotSM printing oddities: It would make me crazy (ok, crazier) to have to try to collect one whole set of the “lighter cards” of its first run, then another of the slightly darker ones which came after (not referring to UL). This is the set I’ve had to trade for the most/buy from aftermarket sources the most to get near to completion. It’s a mixed bag & it’s gonna stay that way unless someone gives me a compelling argument why it shouldn’t…
July 27, 2019 at 5:07 PM #8217J_ARRRRR_P
ParticipantColeoptera makes my eyes water. It’s a mockery of the fact I don’t have the TRUE Nautilus (or Captain Nemo) yet! 😉
Woelf mentioning the possibility of photoshop-to-the-rescue sounds great to me. I’ll ask a friend who does GD to git right on dat! If he comes through, I’ll share the results.
Next oddball: Also from MI, why is the German print iteration of 028 Prussian Crown (“Preussische Krone”) considered unusual, as noted on the spreadsheet for that set? I do have one of these; the answer should be right in front of me! But, duh, I just don’t see the significance – other than nice bit of historical pride for the region.

Participant@Dread Pirate, I like your style, goin’ for the “really good stuff!” Will see if I can come up w/anything to message you about…
July 25, 2019 at 7:44 PM #8123J_ARRRRR_P
Participant@Xerecs: I have a “spare” La Victoire. She is unpunched but cards show slight scuffing. PM if interested.
July 25, 2019 at 4:35 PM #8118J_ARRRRR_P
ParticipantSavage Shores ISLANDS of all things (& this is for my “core” collection, so really gritting my teeth):
Need 102, 105, 107, 109, 110, 115, 116
July 25, 2019 at 12:19 PM #8117J_ARRRRR_P
ParticipantI’m interested in purchasing, mint/un-punched condition:
SM SS-007 U L’Aguila Spanish (not UL)
PotR 1st Ed. 047 R Le Superbe French
OE 168 SE Sea Tiger English (cards are SCS green)
OE 211 LE Tiger American
RotF Stories #1 and #5
SS Islands I02, I05, I07, I09, I10, I15, I16
July 25, 2019 at 11:20 AM #8116J_ARRRRR_P
ParticipantI just began the process of re-creating my lists since I’d allowed my MT membership to lapse a couple years back…So dumb!
As far as OE duplicates (that I intend to use for play), for 001-133, this is all I’m missing:
046 Lusca R
080 Le Coeur de Lion R
117 English Explorer/Treasure C
I’m adding these to this thread because rares from OE aren’t “that” rare relative to other sets (correct me if I’m wrong).
Could be I traded these away at some point, lol, which would skew the data – but still, wish I had ’em now!
