No, I didn’t realized the in game iteration of the Dauntless was a 5 master, I remember the ship having 4 masts in the movie, but I could have been mistaken. If the in game Dauntless is a 5 master, then my version would also be a 5 master.
Technically in the movie the Dauntless has 3 masts, but for the game Wizkids made it a 5 master.

Nice win! Why do some of the stats differ from what you posted on discord?

Awesome Vlog post Ben! I really am enjoying this fresh renaissance in the Pirates game!
Question for you: did you ever put together a spreadsheet for suggested point costs for custom ships? E.G. sail/cannon ranks, hold, speed, special abilities, etc
I’m wanting to order some custom ships but could use a guide to help with point cost(s).
-
Thank you! I am massively enjoying it too! 😀
I have not put together a spreadsheet like that. I don’t know the formula that Wizkids used. You can generally see “my” point costs for some abilities on the first tab of the Customs Database. In addition, you can check out the current results of the Ability Costs Survey to see what the community/players in general think abilities should cost.

Thanks for the links Ben! They will be helpful as I move forward on my project.

Great, glad to hear it!

For arranging an ocean, I usually just try to include some interesting features or things I haven’t done before. Sometimes that involves stringing terrain together in new or old ways. An island surrounded by terrain (often a single type, like reefs to make a lagoon of sorts) might get extra gold on it, and probably shouldn’t be a location that…[Read more]

Pirates for Thanksgiving In Quarantine Aboard A Destroyer
This is a simple game I played on my Navy ship with a fellow Sailor while in quarantine! (shortly after getting to the ship on deployment) It was played […]

@JW Darkhurst: Good to see you here again! I just “returned” recently and I’m greatly looking forward to this year’s summer game! 🙂
I think the Olmak is more powerful than the Ignika. A string of bad rolls with the Ignika will leave you with no crew.
Agreed. Kinda think I might like to use The Olmak though… XD

As far as good pulls, we pulled most of the rare cards including both the HMS Grand Temple and Divine Dragon. We built probably 20 ships so far and that was a blast.
Awesome, glad you had fun with it!!

Woelf is on point as always. I don’t think the packs or boxes were different from 1st Printing of SM vs. 1st Edition not 1st printing.

For making playable maps, it’s generally good to have islands at similar distances from each other. That can make an ocean a bit boring, so I like to include archipelagos or clusters sometimes – with the caveat that all of them have to be wild islands. That way a faction can’t pick their HI right next to a bunch of wild islands.

I just purchased both of the Gale Force Nine island sets from Noble Knight Games as a bundled deal for a great price. Check it out!
Thanks for the tip, I just picked up a pair so I’ll finally have them!

Cool! I’m worried there might be holes in the ruleset, Xerecs and I just haven’t found them yet since we haven’t started the game haha.
Sometime I can probably show you on video how I would make a big map if you want.

Yeah I just saw that video the other day, it’s really cool! I like how you can still take the mast “out” while decreasing risk of breakage.

Is there somewhere I can find a set list for OE so that I know what I am looking for?
As soon as you crack a pack you’ll see an OE checklist with the game pieces on it, but you can also use the Master Spreadsheet.

I just recently discovered Pirates two days ago and order my first product for the game this morning. I bought a box of OE and can’t wait to get started. I don’t have much else to add at this time. Happy sailing.
Welcome aboard Derrick! 😀 Sounds like you’re off to a great start!

Indeed, Game Ideas is the page with the rulesets. I have to say, looking at The World Game rules is probably the most overwhelming thing someone new to the game could do. 😀 But I’m glad you’re interested!
I can send you the Caribbean map file. You can import VASSAL saved game files (.vsav) which for Pirates CSG are the maps/oceans. You can…[Read more]
