I had the oarsmen on the MB to be sacrificed to whirlpools and Dead Man’s Chest.

Sacrificed with what?  You’ve got the wrong Fantasma – the SCS version doesn’t have Sac.

  • Ben replied to the topic The Fleets Thread in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years, 6 months ago

I don’t have nearly enough pieces to make this (I have sadly few UTs) but I somehow think this could be not the worst Maman Brigitte fleet ever.

Definitely not.  It’s a solid concept, but why the oarsmen on the MB?  They take up space after the first one due to the no-stacking rule, and would be better off the ship to optimize cargo.  Ghost Ship…[Read more]

El Acorazado – My Preferred Setup

    • Adding Vega is dirty. That’s clever.

For using Acorazado in a 40 pt standard game I’ve been trying to equip her with

      – Admiral Alarico Castro

      -Duque Vacarro

      -Helmsman

      -Captain

And then Pescados de Plata with an explorer or the divers event. Not great, mainly because of how much it relies on Castro going off, but it does particularly well against hybrid fleets. Captain Castro might be better than Admiral here though.

I just had a bizarre game where I got all 5 masts lined up for a shot and every single one missed and that sucked.

      • @Jack: I mainly focus on making the Acorazado as deadly and defensive as possible because I don’t prefer to use S speed gunships in 40 point games. Spain has a plethora of good gunships that can be competitive in 40 point games that aren’t deathmatches. This is more of a specific setup than an actual fleet; El Algeciras can be added to get it to 45 total points, but I usually have just played this in 1v1 gunship duels.

Indeed, the SAT Castro would save a few points in your setup without much of a downside.

I’ve certainly had more than my fair share of bad dice luck, especially during shooting. If you see some of my Battle Reports of physical games from around 2011-2014, it’s pretty crazy how poorly I rolled sometimes. It’s yet another reason I love huge games – with lots of points and die rolls in play, the luck factor of missing a crucial shot decreases and the better player or better constructed fleet should win.

        Thanks for the comment!

  • Hmmm, that would confuse me in a game.

You simply pay 14 points for Cain and the canoes; you’re paying 11 for the canoes and 3 for the Captain ability.  Captain can’t be free, but there’s no reason to make the canoes too expensive just because Cain is a very capable chieftain.

But it’s not currently my turn…….?

It has been since February 23rd. …[Read more]

  • @Robert: They really do look cool.  They must be more durable than the styrene as well.  It would be a little funky to have metal ships for a game based on wooden ships in the Age of Sail, but it’s a neat option.

Optional non-Spanish Main stuff: Admiral Castro instead of Captain

That’s what I’m seeing in the fleet (the BC 5 point EA Castro) – with the 3 point SAT Castro the Acorazado setup would come to 29 points.

Similarly, wouldn’t the Sea Nymph setup in the second fleet come to 20 points with the 4 point Hawkins from SM?  I’d recommend a captain…[Read more]

Howwww have I never come across Le Bon Marin before today? Instantly one of my favorite ships. I need to find a copy somewhere.

I’m seeing one in the UK.

RV was a GREAT set, especially for ships and forts.  You can make plenty of competitive fleets just from that set alone.

  • You might be able to do metal. See products like metal earth.

Wow!  Did not expect someone to suggest metal.  Looking up some stuff, looks very cool.  I would mostly be worried about the cost, and potential cutting hazard.  Also would probably be more difficult to color things in the way the current game is.  That would certainly be a cool opti…[Read more]

  • I have about 3 complete Batavian Bats and El Duques haha

Cool.  I wouldn’t be opposed to having another one of either of those, but it’s not necessarily going to be worth doing a 1 for 1 trade.  I’ll check to see if I have a full extra Death Wind.

  • If a crew with Black Mark activated is transferred to a ship of his original nationality, does that ship become Cursed?  If the crew goes to a Cursed ship, can he use his abilities normally?  Can a crew copy Black Mark or does it have no effect since it’s a start of play ability?

  • I have the stats part of the James Madison and the Death Wind from OE, would love to complete them

I have James Madison card 2/2!  No Death Wind 2/2 though.  Do you have any other extras yet?

For the first time in quite a while I just had a flurry of fleet ideas.  Since the MT crisis started last August I’ve been hesitant to post much there, and I don’t have time to flesh out and post all these ideas in full.

I’m (re)posting 2 fleets per day here at PwB, with my personally legendary American Pirates fleet today.  It really amazes me…[Read more]

  • The Warring Tribes would just look like a regular 5 mast, but preferably with a large set of oars on both sides if made in real life.

I see that Cain and the Canoes have different point costs, which confuses me a little. The chieftain crew is supposed to assume the full cost of the canoes, so shouldn’t the canoes also be 14 points, or should C…

    • Huh, I wasn’t aware that you could have multiple oarsmen in a single ship! That stacking strategy is going to come in handy with my sac captains on small cargo ships for sure!

      • @Mechavelli: You can have multiple oarsmen on a ship, but the no-stacking rule still applies. Due to that rule, the first oarsman doesn’t take up cargo space, but any added after the first have to take up cargo space because you can’t stack any part of the keyword. In which case I don’t think the setups you mention would work, unless I’m missing something.

In this case it just works amazingly well because the Roanoke has a massive cargo hold, which in this case is completely filled up.

        Thanks for the comment!
