Not to bad, did you pull the ships for a sealed pack game?

Ouch, no gold. Still looks like a fun game though. Did a mast break on the Jarvis?

Very cool that you managed to get a game in with Tiffany! Outside of the Hermes, not a whole lot of speed for either fleet.

I’ve used Temple on the fishhook before, but it’s always been in a campaign setting, not a regular game.

If you have 10 spare points, you can throw in the cheese set up for Lord Mycron. HMS Patagonia (SCS)+ Robinson (RV)+ Lord Mycron(FS).

Thoughts? I know it’s pretty simple, but I told Ben I wanted more fleet discussions, so I figured I better get something out there.
Not a bad start, but I’d seriously try to find a way to get Christopher Myngs on either ship. SAT is going to be absolutely essential to this working, since you’ll need the speed to catch the enemy runners. If y…[Read more]

The Nice Guy: Often points out different avenues an opponent can take, opening their mind up to great moves they otherwise wouldn’t see that could result in the nice guy losing the game. Great at teaching new players.
I do this a little bit now, but less so in the past, especially against my brothers. I haven’t had opportunity to teach many new players.

Combination of Penny-Pincher, Deal Hawk and Player. Always have been, most likely will be. Eventually I’ll probably morph into super-collector.

As mentioned elsewhere I believe I’m currently a mesh of power-gamer, sophisticated, predictable and unpredictable. I like to use a lot of the best things (like Mycron et.all) since that results in winning the game, which I do enjoy. That I use those pieces a lot trends me into predictable, especially if I’m playing against my brothers. They’ve…[Read more]

As of 9/4/2021, live game-play has ended. I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to get reports up and done before October.

What model ship is the Mars (Pirates of the Age of Sail)?
You’d have to ask Ben I think. He made the ship.

What would happen if Jail!, Celestine’s Charts, and Nemo’s Plans wound up on the same ship? Would the Plans and Jail! basically keep crew from being assigned to that ship? Would the Charts stay on the ship, or be moved as per its own ability text?

Just like the S-Boarder ability, it can be used while submerged (or against something submerged) unless specifically prevented by some other ability.
As a follow-up, what’s the timing on the Selkirk’s ability? The card says “once per turn”. Could it be used like a canceller, which is also a “once per turn”?

Xerecs replied to the topic Rules for thought #46 – Changes to the Boarding mechanic in the forum Pirates CSG 5 years, 2 months ago
But it works against smaller ships more so than against big ones.
Hmmm. That’s true.
If there’s less incentive to ram, there will be less boarding… unless other things make boarding MORE appealing than usual.
Being able to steal treasure from other ships and not being pinned. I don’t usually go for a board unless I have S-board or I’m boa…[Read more]

I agree with numbers 3-5, but I’m not so certain about 1 and 2. It does seem silly that ramming another ship would severely damage that ship, but I suspect it’s a game balance issue, it gives the smaller ships a slight chance against the bigger ones, especially in swarm fleets.
Pinning makes a little bit of thematic sense, since ships of the time…[Read more]

Xerecs replied to the topic Rules for thought #45 – Reloading, Recruiting, and Randomizing the turn order in the forum Pirates CSG 5 years, 2 months ago
Not long ago I was in favor of having the player order determined by all the initiative rolls, with the second-highest roll going second and so on.
We’ve done that, but it usually feels like either oldest to youngest player or the other way around, since there are only 3 of us normally. We have yet to get a meaningful game in with all 5 of us, but…[Read more]
