Ahoy Mateys!
Will someone please enlighten me what the crew, treasure, and equipment do in the game? Aren’t they just chits you place on islands and ships after they are punched out from their deck plates? I would assume their deck plates have the affect of the punched out chits? How does one keep track of it all?

I saw some of your YouTube videos where you used an Ender 3 to 3D print the ships and a Cameo 4 to print the decals. That is amazing and I envy you Brother! I think I might get a Cameo 4 and some Styrene and try to cut out thd ships that way. I don’t know if you tried that first before 3D printing?

Hi Ben,
I went to the store link to try and find the decals but was unable to locate them. I have STLs for all of the ships but don’t know if they are already scaled to the ships in the game. How do you 3D print PLA? I only know of FDM. Would it not be easier to use a Cricut instead?
Hi All,
I am not new to this forum but have been out of pocket for a while. I’m back now and it seems that a lot of work has been done to keep this game alive and sailing the high seas! I recently found some STL files for printing all the ships, sea monsters, forts, etc…now if we can just get someone to handle decals? If I had the expertise I would do it! Anyhow it is great to be back and I look forward to seeing the continued progress of this game for current generations to experience.

I agree, it will take some work trying to homebrew the ships for Pirates. I may end up 3D printing my own ships when it is all said and done (with some pre-painted, de-constructing aspect per Ben’s request). When you really think about it, the possibilities are endless. I am still interested in collecting all cards and ships from all expansions. Right now, I am mining Ebay and other sites for some good deals to at least get a fleet built. Vassal has been helpful on making Icebergs and other terrain.

You arr!!! doin a great job of continuing Pirates: CSG here!!! Pardon my frustration and venting. I have noticed that limited time and resources is a big issue with this game. CCG’s like Star Trek are easy compared to Pirates because for the most part they are just cards to represent personnel and ships. Pirates takes a little more effort because of the constructibility aspect of the game. Those are not easy to duplicate unless you have mad time and resources. I am not wanting to pirate or encourage piracy of a pirate themed gamed. I think that if you do not have a profit motive and keep it in community then it does not become a legal issue. I may just buy one type of every ship and make my own from there. I promise not to sell or profit from it. This game has been great because it has kept my kids off of media, but there is only so much I can do with four ships, some islands, and gold. I worked at a Tech College once and we had a patents person working there. I had my eye on something I found off the internet and asked if I could copy it. They said as long as you make your design different, and so I did. I however was not able to finish it because I was promoted to a new position that called me away from that project. My prototype is still there to this day. Lastly, that is great that some people have a near complete collection. I would like to see it someday myself.

Bloodyriz is the scurvy dog’s name. I downloaded his PSD files from Boardgame Geek that are templates for just about everything Pirates CSG. He has templates for 1 and 2 mast ships and 2 segment subs. I wish he had made templates for 3 to 5 mast ships. Now that would have been real nice. I should pm him on BGG and see if will do it.

Amen, Brother. No assembly required! You would have to print hulls and masts separate though. Oh and you would have to paint the ships too, unless you use brown black plastic for the hulls and white plastic for the masts. That could be a work around to painting just touches of details. Who knows what the future holds!?!

Thank you for your thorough reply. I do not know that much about 3-D printing either but I would assume that is the best way to have a tangible piece in your hands. It is an investment to buy one and I do not mind the grass roots approach that WizKids, Topps, and NECA took to make the ships constructible. I am hoping one day to have templates for all ship types to be able to make my own from. Vassal is a great resource to get ship cards from and I understand why they took a top-down approach.

Thanks for welcoming me to the site. I am enjoying the friendly atmosphere Ben and crew facilitate here. Making my own terrain is a great idea and I hope to upgrade to foam islands when I have played for a while. I like the idea of perspective and filling the table out more. I found a trade current in Vassal and plan on using the snipping tool to capture the image and print it out for use in my games. I also like the idea of placing forts on islands, again the perspective thing. I can do that in Vassal too. I only wish there were crew cards and a way to someday have a full inventory of everything Pirates!
Wishful thinking must be clouding me judgement!!! Why is all the rum gone!?!

1. How do you do it?
2. What material do you print it out on?
3. How do you get them to print even on both sides say like for masts and such?

I learned something new today about islands. I learned they have an island on one side and a fog bank, reef, sargasso sea, etc…on the other side. How cool is that?
Still haven’t found any trade currents, whirlpools, or icebergs yet. I just need to get the islands from the frozen north or proxy a fog bank for an iceberg?

I appreciate the heads up on my ships selection. I know I have a lot to learn sailing the high seas. My overall goal is for my family and I to have fun! The choice of those ships were difficult, but I am a dad on a budget, I wanted ships with four masts, and it will make things interesting.
So…I will be ordering my 4 four mast ships:
1. Revenge 11-4-4-L-4S,4L,4L,4S

You are correct sir! I am actually wanting to introduce the game to my wife and kids and would like all of us to use ships from the Pirate faction of equal value to balance everything out. That way none of us are OP of one another.

Would using playing cards instead of dice work to determine your rolls? What is the highest you can roll in this game? I’ve only seen people use one die for their roll, so would that mean you would only use aces-sixes and use face cards or jokers for wild roll? The suits could also affect the outcome of your rolls too.
Hearts = Health
Diamonds = Wealth
Clubs = Damage
Spades = Tactics

Vassal?
Is it possible to grab images of terrain from Vassal to print out for tabletop play including Forts, etc? There has to be a way to customize terrain and other elements such as Forts for those of us who have missed the boat per say early on and coming in late to the game. By the way, how do I post a new topic in the Forum?
Terrain Question?
Since most terrain like Icebergs, Sargasso Sea, Trade Current, and Forts (technically not terrain) are hard to come by or out of print, how can noobs like myself fabricate this terrain to incorporate them into our play experience? I have seen all but Sargasso Sea, Iceberg, and Trade Current. I was able to crop a Reef, Whirlpool, and Fog Bank from a random Vassal pic I found in Google images. I guess I can print those out and use them, but I cannot find a pic for an Iceberg, Sargasso Sea, or Trade Current. There is one Fort I can buy that is still available, but I would like to incorporate more. Sorry for the long post…Avast ye scurvy dogs!!!

Thank you sir. I will look into it. In reference to your question as to which pirate games I have played on PC. The answer is too many to count. I generally prefer a pirate game that has a good balance of land and sea combat and exploration, but those dynamics are hard to come by. It is almost like playing two games in one or choosing one over the other.
Anytime you are near Savannah, Georgia, look me up. The Pirate’s House is a restaurant that is said to have been a haven for Blackbeard and has some Treasure Island lore. We also have a Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum here as well.
Pirates is argh-uably the best tabletop version of any digital pirate-themed game I have ever played.

When/how/why you got into Pirates:
As to the when/how/why I got into Pirates, About a year ago, I was searching for a tabletop pirate game that I was planning to make out of LEGO using pirate themed sets. Pirates captures everything I was wanting to do with beauty and simplicity that I would have spent more time and resources trying to do with LEGO. The scale would have been much bigger than Pirates. I prefer the scale Pirates uses freeing up more table space. I also live on the Coast of Georgia near the Pirates House in a town rich in naval colonial history.

I am just getting started into collecting Pirates. I am working on building my first fleet. So, that would make me 99% Player & 1% Collector!?!

My favorite thing about Pirates is that I don’t need technology in order to play. I love playing against real people on the tabletop and I love the competitiveness the game offers.
