Yeah, a double Crossbow attack would work.  Sa-Drah seems fine at 9 or 10.  Dris might work in the 10-12 range, interesting ship.  Gormagog would love being “snot sure”.  XD   D’Kar at about 13 makes sense to me.  Should just read “Equipment does not”, no need for the ‘s.

    Gated Kingdom
    Faction Affiliation: Viking
    Rarity: C
    Type: Fort
    Gold Cost: 5
    Cannons: 4L-4L-4L-4L-4L-4L
Ability: Viking ships within S of this fort get +S to their base move. Enemy ships may not remove anything from this island by any means.

Flavor text: A secretive location known to Vikings only, this oversized fortress houses weapons and important texts. It is a haven for Vikings traveling across the Atlantic, and they will defend it to their deaths. It is said that no non-Viking has ever step foot on the island, let alone inside the fort.

Pirates CSG Podcast #37: Optimizing and Using Lesser Ships and Crew | Circle of Blood Review

Question of the Day: How do you get lesser ships and crew into action?

    ShoutEngine: http://shoutengine.com/PiratesCSGPodcast/pirates-csg-podcast-37-optimizing-and-using-less-70984

    YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUmfhnKMlnY

    Archive.org: https://archive.org/details/PiratesCSGPodcast37

“thoughts on optimizing less/not utilized ships”

-MUST have speed, so helmsmen pretty much always necessary (especially since a lot of lesser ships are slow). Beyond that, try to find a niche use for specific game pieces. For example, 1 cargo and fast speed? (Dark Fox) Scout explorer with crew or S-Explorer. OR, flotilla tug with surprise crew face down (canceller/captain/etc).

Slow with high cargo – home waters hybrid to get nearby gold and protect HI, potentially use with navigator. Could also use with gold factory bonus strategy, especially in case of Spanish “treasure galleons” such as Isabela, Concepcion, etc.

-Keep in mind that your competition will not want to dumb things down (people like to win and often use the same OP ships all the time), so have realistic outcome expectations and propose alternative game ideas like “make worst fleet possible, pass to other player” to get lesser ships/crew into action. Other than that, more points = more points to use on gimmicks and suboptimal experiments

“Rules variants to get the ships on the table.”

-Require specific base move – Challenge of Snails, all L, etc.

-Require all cargo holds to be full during setup – force players to make tradeoffs on when to dump crew – right at start, at wild islands (making them accessible to other players), or go with total war/all combat strategy? Con-exacerbates how OP Sac already is.

-Require each player to use ONLY ships AND named crew they’ve never used before (for starters, look through what you’ve never punched out!), or a pure faction fleet from a faction you’ve never played.

-Look through Fleet Challenge Archives to find fun restrictions http://www.miniaturetrading.com/im/forum/viewtopic/t=8492///

I think Sa-Drah could be around 10 points. It’s far inferior to N’Pu and should be cheaper.

[Once per turn, if this ship carries treasure and is within S of an enemy ship, you may randomly trade one treasure with that ship.]  This ship may trade any kind of cargo with any ships within S of her at any time, provided both players agree to the trade(s). Enemy ships get -1 to their boarding rolls against this ship.

Flavor text: Always lit up with lanterns and occasionally even risky fireworks, the Grand Celebration epitomizes her namesake every night she sails. Her jovial crew has made many friends around the lands, and the ship often stops at more ports than is required on her voyages. I love pirates because its strategic enough to for me to enjoy, but easy enough to teach new players a fun tabletop game. I hope to bring some interesting photos and hopefully more people into the forum, as once I get into my hobbies I am very passionate about them. I’d say I’m 99% player, and the 1% collector wants to collect them all so I can play with them!

I can certainly agree and vibe with all of that!  😀  Welcome aboard!

I’ve also been able to source island-making materials from work, and now I’ve accumulated far more than I’m ever likely to use.  XD  I look forward to seeing your creations/games/etc.

Is Runes of Death eliminated immediately after the elimination of the final mast or crew on the ship, or must you wait for the effect to trigger at the beginning of your next turn in order to get rid of it?

Ability: Marine. SAT. This crew can use its abilities on Mercenary ships.

    Philip Lyne
    Pirate
    Crew
    11 points
Ability: Captain. This ship gets +1 to her boarding rolls. If this ship wins a boarding party on a 1-5, she may eliminate all of the other ship’s crew. If this ship wins a boarding party on a 6, she may capture the crew with the highest point cost instead of eliminating it. A captive becomes assigned to this ship, takes up no cargo space, and can use its abilities. The captive cannot leave this ship.

My 2018 Pirates CSG Hall of Fame ballot:

    Rizz (aka Riz the Bloody)

Rizz has been one of the most helpful community members for many years. He has submitted various documents and uploaded useful files to BGG, including some ship and crew card blanks. He had one of the most entertaining Pirate websites, the Corsairs of Douglas County, until it was taken down around a couple years ago. He did a lot of trades “back in the day” and has various other contributions to the community. (including over 1,000 posts and 16 pages of fleet/MR comments)

    Lordstu

lordstu is unfortunately not around anymore, which I did factor into my vote. However, he (I think) held the record for most fleets submitted for a while, at 81 (not to mention 20 Miniature Reviews). What struck me about him was just how engaging nearly all of his posts were. He probably rates highly on the all-time “words per post” if there was such a metric recorded, since many of his posts were very deep into the heart of the game and specific to a degree hardly seen since. I think I’d say he is the deactivated member that I miss most. You can still see his ridiculous contributions to the fleets and MR sections, with nearly 50 pages of comments.  Shocked (I am at 41 pages for reference with more years of commenting, so the volume he did was likely unprecedented (Woelf at 55 pages but over the course of 8 years instead of about 4 for lordstu’s 49 pages). I counted 20 responses to a page in that search, which means lordstu has almost 1,000 comments on fleets and MR’s alone!

    Piranha

Tony Vigil was the Rules Arbitrator before Woelf took over, and I believe the only other RA.  One of the most important people in Pirates CSG history outside of the game designers themselves.

    Ragheela Banshee
    Faction Affiliation: Barbary Corsair
    Rarity: C
    Type: Crew
    Point Value: 6
Ability: Horror [For each enemy ship within S of this ship at the beginning of this ship’s turn, roll a d6. On a result of 3-6, one of the enemy ship’s crew cannot use their abilities on their turn.]. This ship gets +1 to any cannon shots she makes using specialists, equipment, or range extending abilities.

Flavor text: After becoming extremely bored with sea life after just one week, Ragheela decided to take matters into her own hands. Dressing like the “Screaming Mimi”, she appalls enemies with tricks for her own amusement. She also finds gunnery duels boring, and often spices them up with her own brand of firepower.

    Artimis Delamico
    Faction Affiliation: Jade Rebellion
    Rarity: C
    Type: Crew
    Point Value: 9
Ability: Reroll. When this ship is docked at your home island, you may eliminate one treasure. It becomes a 3S cannon that can be eliminated only when the ship sinks. Once per turn this ship can look at all treasure on all islands within L of her.

Flavor text: Both philsopher and scientist, Artimis is known to host experiments outside of his home in Hong Kong. Although he hasn’t had anything go terribly wrong yet, some nervous crews have been anxious to ask him for credentials. Despite the lack of confidence, some manner of luck and happy circumstance seem to follow him around. With his powers growing (he is now a “psychic” with sensing valuables, and even turning them into firearms!), some suggest a connection to voodoo or the Cursed, which Artimis vehemently denies.

Can Filching Gold or Peter Miles/etc be used after brushing against a canoe without ramming?

Is it acceptable to remove used or resolved UT’s from the game?  Can you ever retrigger them by stealing to new ship?  Any problem just removing them from play? (ex: Lost, Whirlpool, etc)

    Ceremonial Slaying
    Faction Affiliation: Cursed
    Rarity: U
    Type: Ship
    Point Value: 19
    Number of Masts: 4
    Cargo Space: 4
    Base Move: S+S
    Cannons: 2L-2S-3L-4S
Ability: Switchblade. Fear. If this ship eliminates an enemy crew, you may move one enemy ship within S of this ship S away from this ship.

Flavor text: All aboard this large vessel make a huge ruckus around the killing of a single individual. After blood has been spilt and another life is extinguished by the Cursed, the crew rejoice. This can cause other ships to recoil in fear – they do not want to be the cause of the next grand celebration.
