  • I really like the Legacy. Interesting combination of keywords. I feel that any six mast with predominately decent cannons will wind up being fielded as some kind of gunship, regardless of cargo and speed.

    Thanks!

  • Is Hill’s Wholesale Gaming trustworthy?

Yes!  I’ve bought from them multiple times with good experiences.

I bought from RainTyger the other day. Let’s see how they do.

They are great as well!  🙂

  • @Jack: The Chieftain is located on the second card of the canoes, which also holds 2 canoes of the 5.

  • @Jack: My problem with the canoes is that they’re too good. Especially the American ones. I don’t like El Puerto Blanco much, but it’s neat that Spain got 3 forts.

The Chieftain is on the Alquimista (which is why they’re in the same section) and assumes the full point cost of the canoes. More info in the MKL.

    Thanks for checking it out!

    • I reeeally don’t like native canoes. They just seem like strange additions to the game mechanically. But I like the idea! And any excuse to make good use out of El Puerto Blanco is a good thing, as I love that strange little fort.

Also, don’t you need a specific crew to use canoes? I’ve never played them so I’m probably missing something

I think the game would have benefited from more effects/mechanics like Dagger’s, it makes the game feel more realistic. Also its flavor text is one of very few references to the Dutch in the game. Still bummed they were never an official nation.

Agreed on both.  It’s fun to figure out max base moves for some of those seemingly slow ships.  The pro…[Read more]

Oh no, I meant with the Divers event. Doesn’t it allow you to sink a ship with treasure and then take all the treasure for yourself? Bringing back enemy derelicts is definitely an option though, since there shouldn’t be a lot of ships out on the seas to put pressure on a towing ship.

Ah yes.  No problem there, I just prefer not to use even…[Read more]

You can remove a mast most of the time for free, but you sacrifice a move action next turn.

Not necessarily on the second part.  If they move away on their turn after you ram, you could move again on your next turn unless you’re immobilized by something else.  But it can also go the other way – if they don’t move away and they keep masts up, t…[Read more]

MVP of the match was probably the HMS Algiers. At one point it was able to carry 6 pieces of cargo at once. (Admiral Blake, Watkins Defoe, First Mate Ismail, and 3 gold coins)

Took me a while to figure out how that worked, but very impressive!

  • @Ed: That can happen, but swarm fleets have many counters. I actually have somewhat extensive experience playing dakmor’s swarm fleet; I highly encourage you to check out the battle reports for VASSAL Tournament #1 and VASSAL Tournament #2 to see how the fleet did along with its strengths and weaknesses.

I think it looks good!  Tough to fit a canceller into the setup without eliminating the flotilla, even using the F&S Lenoir.

firing first to make sure the ram roll goes our way, keeping an enemy stuck in the water

I assume you’re talking about dismasting them; you get pinned after you ram, not them. (“reverse pinning” doesn’t work even with the…[Read more]
