I need some advise on 4 four masted pirate ships that are of equal strength, etc… any recommendations?
I would simply go with the one that you like the best, or perhaps that looks the coolest. I assume you’re trying to choose which one to use in an upcoming game?

What is the highest you can roll in this game?
6.
Never thought of using playing cards, but I’m sure some kind of workable system could be figured out.

Are you able to customize Forts in Vassal?
Yes indeed! Feel free to check out the video tutorial on the main page for it.

Since most terrain like Icebergs, Sargasso Sea, Trade Current, and Forts (technically not terrain) are hard to come by or out of print, how can noobs like myself fabricate this terrain to incorporate them into our play experience?
They’re all out of print, but none of those are extremely rare. Just depends on the set in terms of which packs…[Read more]

Welcome aboard! I like the avatar.
Pirates captures everything I was wanting to do with beauty and simplicity that I would have spent more time and resources trying to do with LEGO. The scale would have been much bigger than Pirates. I prefer the scale Pirates uses freeing up more table space.
Great points!!
I also live on the Coast of Georgia n…

Can anyone advise me the best place to get islands for terrain to make my ocean more realistic? I like the idea that Pirates provides islands, but I want something more 3-D.
Here are the islands made by Ross in AZ. I have used some of them in my own games and highly recommend them! I also recommend making your own, though it can be messy and t…[Read more]

Some of you will remember this from the original thread from a couple years ago. However, there are a LOT of new people in the community since then, so I thought it was another one worth reviving.
-Have you ever played for keeps? If not, would you consider doing it in the future?
What about raising the stakes even higher, and having the wi…

Ben replied to the topic Collection Organization in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years ago
How do you organize your collections? What is the best ways to store ships that is efficient but easy to find ships and all their parts?
You can see my collection in the 2014 Fleet Review and the Collection Review Series.
To find ships easily, you could try Plano boxes or some kind of divider system that you could use to sort ships individually…[Read more]

If a ship with the reverse captain ability also has a captain crew on it can you move shoot and then move again?
No, not without an extra action. See Page 20.

Very impressive that the Americans managed to sink the various Spanish 10’s.
4:05 Love this shot. Great angle and height.
10:26 Wild to see how much open ocean there is, and how much smaller the Spanish operation looks.
Nice to see the English rising even more! 😀 -

Recently I stumbled across two 36 pack boxes, one of Revolution and one of Barbary Coast and decided to buy them so I could force my friends to play.
Even I haven’t done that… I love Pirates, but I don’t think anyone should be forced to play it. At least those are good sets to garner interest with!
Glad you’ve found some interesting rules…[Read more]

The Pirates market is alive and well! Some recent auction prices to consider:
SM island terrain set: $102.50 (new high)
Zeus: $167.50 (new high, and possibly the highest amount for a 10 master since a Guichuan sold for $175, I think in 2018)
Dungeon (DJC LE): $24.50
Booty Finder: $26
Celtic Fury: $49.79
Near-complete set of DJC: $325 -

Another question about an unreleased game piece:
Blackfoot Bill
Pirate

Ability: When this ship is damaged, remove any crew member, except this one, instead of a mast.Would this apply to fire masts? I would think not, because the intent behind “remove” is more similar to “eliminate” than “replace”.

Ben started the topic Real life naval strategies/themes in Pirates? in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years ago
As an enthusiast of naval history and especially the Age of Sail, it’s always interesting to think about strategies or ideas that can be implemented into Pirates CSG.
Wind is probably the most obvious, and I’ve used it as a house rule in the ECG and 6×150 with success. Return fire and the line of battle are some of the most common ideas.
One…[Read more]

Long story short: I want to use a modified (and very simplifgied) version of Pirates CSG to teach the first module of a short linear algebra course.
Certainly a unique approach! I like how you’re combining the game with something they’ll be learning regardless. Definitely “never woulda thought o’ that!” 😀

I’m a university teacher and stumbled across Pirates CSG while searching for miniatures to use as teaching aids in a class of linear algebra for biologists. Sorry to say I haven’t played it yet but I hope I can dupe my better half into playing next weekend :-D.

What exactly counts as a defensive ability here? Specifically, ships that need to be hit twice in the same shoot action to lose a mast, would those be “immune” to Broadsides Attack or would the keyword cancel that ability?
BA ignores that ability, but doesn’t cancel it. (since it would still work against other ships not using BA on that same tur…[Read more]
