Put Don Osvaldo Guillen on his linked ship, the Santo Columbo. They both have the same ability, so it’s pointless to do it.

As for high impracticality? Try and get all of the WK doctor crew into one fleet. 😀

I think I did once. At the time we had an un-punched Dauphin Royal form CC. I thought one of my brothers already had it, so I traded it, though I can’t recall now for what. It wasn’t until afterwards that I realized none of us had a complete Dauphin, and I was kicking myself for a while. However just last year I think, I was able to score a Dauphin from eBay and gave it to one of my brothers.

As to you question, I don’t think I would trade a one of one now, though who knows what the future may hold. At some point I’d like to get a complete collection just for me, instead of splitting it with my two brothers.

“I have mixed feelings about the Combustion and the Flame Fiend because I actually have a similar-ish ship in the set following Seas of Doom”

    Huzzah, another set!  XD

I’m eagerly awaiting the next one, since I’ve made a point to NOT look over JW’s shoulder o at his doc for it, since I want to be surprised. 😀

Reading the ability again, I think it will be fine because there’s just not that many specific CREW abilities worth cancelling on your own turn, outside of enemy cancellers or a defensive specialist like Joaquin Vega.  Almost no crew in the game have a large effect on enemy turns when it’s not their own turn. (if that makes sense lol)

Oohh. Now I get it. reading it again, I think my previous opinion of the ship is changed somewhat, making the Heir the potentially more viable of the two ships, if they’re by themselves.

The Clarity looks like a decent empty runner, maybe assign someone like Gentleman Jocard to boost her cargo.

Berry is odd, not so much impractical imo. The ability to not be pinned is nice for a non-galley ship, and he’d pair well with other boarding oriented crew and ships. Furthermore you could place him on something with the point space to afford him, like the Zeus or the Flying Dutchman from PotC and go nuts.

I agree with your assessment that the Shrieking and the Heir would be best served in a battle group or formation. On their own I think they would be hard pressed to do any major damage to a ship before being overwhelmed, especially if they were caught by a small formation by themselves.

Of the two, I feel that the Shrieking has a higher upside, with the L-Cancel ability (didn’t you say that was a bad idea? 😀 ). I’m interpreting her ability to mean that even friendly crew would be cancelled if they were caught in the shriek, correct ?

Would Curtis’s ability fall under the same umbrella as a SAC crew, as in, the crew must be eliminated and stay eliminated for the re-roll to work? I’m assuming so, but it would be fun to pair him up with the SS Wraith, and try to keep some of the crew that are eliminated.

Darren would be interesting to pair with a HI raider that had good to semi decent cannons. That or an escort ship for a raider, since cargo is so valued on those ships.

Jerrison is also interesting, if only for his link. There are a few very good American twos and thees.

Given the minimal cargo space, I don’t think that the Ascent will ever have treasure on her. I suppose there’s a possibility of a UT or two finding their way on board, which would count as a treasure, but again I don’t think the odds of that happening are high.

I’d probably put a captain and helmsman, with an oarsman on her, nice little support gunship, and quite speedy too.

Ooohh. I like those Cursed. 😀 The Combustion seems like a good gunship, even without her extra flame abilities. I’d love to find a way to get an eternal crew on her, to keep her coming back for more, even if she’s scuttled.

Flame Fiend is very cool, though I’m not sue I’d put him on his linked ship. S-Board and boarding in general are useful when you can catch an enemy ship, and the Combustion with a speed of L may not be able to do that all the time. Between you and I thee are enough quick customs to put him, as well as a few WK ones as well.

These seem interesting, if only for the potential combinations. The Archfiend opens up all kinds of possibilities with his Jonah ability, and with 7 cargo on the Courtship, there’s enough room for all kinds of crazy possibilities.

    Gluttony
    Type: Ship
    Faction Affiliation: Pirate
    Rarity: U
    Point Value: 15
    Number of Masts: 4
    Cargo Space: 6
    Base Move: S
    Cannons: 2L-4S-4S-2L
Ability: Gold Capture. This ship has 4 extra cargo spaces that may only be assigned Food. [Second ability is for campaign games using resources, such as Economy Edition.]

Flavor text: This ship’s massively bloated captain named his ship after his greedy eating problem. He constantly hoards food in his cabin, stuffing his face until he cannot get up. Some say he is a prime target for cannibalism if his demands are not met. Some take that to mean that his own crew will eat him, for they would be full for weeks!

One of the most “open to changes” game pieces in the set, I’m still not satisfied with this one. I’d like one more ability based on the gluttony concept, but preferably not related to the food resource, which most people understandably don’t have experience with. (though I kinda want a custom ability that’s very thematic, not just basic Sac/etc)  Cost might jump to 18-20 in EE games.

Now this is an interesting ship. I love the main ability, and the high cargo capacity. I could see this going as a weird hybrid sip, o some kind of second line gunship in a battle formation.

Another thematic ability huh? Like consuming something/someone, or hoarding something/someone for consumption later?

    Faradûn Kotty
    Type: Crew
    Faction Affiliation: French
    Rarity: C
    Point Value: 7
Ability: World Hater. [This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against any [non-faction] ship.] When this ship hits an enemy ship, you may choose to eliminate cargo instead of masts.

Flavor text: Although not an imposing man, Kotty has transformed himself from a scholar to a warrior. Consistently underestimated, he expertly commands French gun crews to cause maximum hull damage to enemy vessels.

    Frince Beautini
    Type: Crew
    Faction Affiliation: French
    Rarity: C
    Point Value: 2
Ability: Ghost Ship. This ship gets -1 to her boarding rolls.

Flavor text: Seeing the success of Vicomte Jules de Cissey, this cowardly “man” wanted to emulate him. He always runs from a fight, and some have rumored that he is in league with Devereaux due to some mysterious disappearances…

So…. Faradun can eliminate cargo optionally? Interesting. Could you go back and forth with him if you had enough shots? As in, first hit eliminate a mast, second hit, eliminate a cargo, third hit a mast, and so on. Or is he all or nothing?

Either way, I’d use him on a capital ship with the point space.

Frince is interesting. I think I’d use him on some kind of ‘striker’ gunship, one that has a good base move, say S+S or greater. I’d take advantage of Ghost Ship to move though an island or dense cluster of terrain to get a jump on an enemy ship. Would his minus to boarding rolls be counted as a bonus, for the sake of ability interaction? I’m thinking that the S-Board ability would neutralize that aspect of his ability.

I think I like Arella Harkins more than Barry. 😀 Her combination of abilities has more interesting potential for boarding related tactics. Whether its crew elimination, gold capture or other stuff like Nemo. Hmmm. I guess she would make a good combination with her linked crew, provided you can get them on a quick enough ship with some ample cargo space after them and other necessary crew for the filched gold.

“Nice to see that the bored looking dude has made a comeback to something more interesting.”

What do you mean by that?

I mean that his artwork for OE makes him looked bored, in my opinion.

I just think a ship that can teleport is dumb and I can’t endorse it in any way regardless of the circumstances.

Fair points. Just a little too fantastical I guess, not to mention that it would seriously affect games and situations and whatnot.

    The Derelict

    Points N/A

    Masts 10

    Cargo 8

    Movement L

    Cannons 4s-3s-2l-2l-3l-3l-3l-3s-4l-4l

Flavor text: The Jade Rebellion sailed one of their mighty treasure ships into the strange overgrown seas looking for a shortcut to riches beyond but never returned. Her crew tore down the rigging for warmth and threw all the riches into the seas as offerings to any gods that would take pity on them for release from those wretched doldrums, a prayer that was in the end only answered in death.

    Keywords

Junk: This ship’s own masts do not block its lines of fire.

    Limit one per game

Derelict: Ships starts the game with 0 masts and crew floating in the middle of the ocean or in a Sargasso sea. Ship cannot be sunk except via fire and scuttling. Ship reappears 5 turns later in derelict state after it is removed from game by scuttling or fire.

Hoist the Colours: This ship starts unaligned with a faction and takes on the faction of the ship that successfully tows it to a home island, this faction can change upon capture by another player.

Home Base:If assigned a merc faction this ship can act as a mobile home island and assumes unlimited cargo capacity, if it has more cargo then listed capacity it is limited to s speed which can not be altered and can not move closer than L to any island. This ship can still be captured in this state and all current cargo is transferred to capturer, current crew is eliminated. It can only be assigned merc faction if crewed by a merc captain, captain must remain on ship. One mast may be repaired every other turn at sea only if Home Base keyword is active. Once Home Base is assigned it can only be removed by further capturing.

So let me see if I’ve got this right. The derelict appears at the stat of the game, either in the rough middle of the map or in a Sargasso sea. It starts with no masts, with 8 cargo a base speed of L and the listed cannons. If any faction is able to tow it home, it assumes the flag of that faction. If it’s captured by another faction (presumably after being dis-masted) it’s affiliation changes to that faction. The only way to sink it is to cause a scuttle by fire, or a regular scuttle.

    Hmmmm.

I really like this concept. I think you could structure a scenario game around this, as well as make an interesting feature in a campaign. However I have some questions. If the Derelict is acquired early in the game, and is given crew of the faction that captured it, lets say the English; and is then late captured by the Spanish, would the assigned crew change affiliation with the ship, or would they stay as English?

I see that the point cost is N/A. is that because you’re not sue what point cost to give it, or because it functions like a terrain or an island?

Limit once pe game means the same thing as the Limit keyword yes?

Oooh. I really like this pair. A nice gunship and a good utility crew for the Cursed. Nice to see that the bored looking dude has made a comeback to something more interesting. 😀

Anywho, the DP looks like a major headache to deal with, especially when a canceller finds it’s way onboard. This is one ship I’d LOVE to use.

Not a good idea, especially since it’s really dumb thematically.  That would fall under the “just don’t” category, like L-cancellers for example.

Hmmm. Okay. How about dependent on a die roll and for one tun only, or would that not really fix the problem?

    Y’know…. I ALMOST made an L-Canceller. 😀

@JW, I really like Andre Martin, but I’m lukewarm on the other two. Nothing about the FV stands out in particular to me. Lefevre could be interesting on a more capable gunship, or on one of our Man-O-War’s.

I really like the Stormrage, mainly because I love that ability, though I’ve never been able to pull it off on a large scale. The defensive abilities you’ve built into her will make her difficult to deal with, but her only being three masts is good, since it means that ramming becomes a more viable way of stopping her, along with all S range cannons.

About how broken would a ship with a base move of D be?

When this ship docks at an island, eliminate all non-Cursed crew with a point cost of 2 or less from the island.

just thought of something potentially viable for this, combine it with a home island raider, or some other ability that would let you dock at an enemy home island. 😀

Would the main boarding ability be in addition to any other possible boarding win options? Would the SoI be able to use that ability and then either take or eliminate a treasure and eliminate another crew?

I’m not sue how often that second ability will come into play, since I don’t know of anyone who leaves large numbers of crew on an island. I suppose you could modify it for a campaign and use it to wipe out infantry units?

Interesting Hoist. That ability alone makes her interesting, never mind he speed or cargo. At S+S she’s decently quick, but 4 cargo isn’t much, which means you need to be selective about what crew you put on her. Her L-range immunity makes he well-defended, since thee are so many ships with L-range cannons.

Can’t wait to see her linked crew.

Speaking of funky, the Fiesta is very odd. Why does she have the ‘crew of any nationality’ if crew can’t use their abilities on he anyway, what would stop you from putting non-Spanish crew on her?

Captain Zamos is interesting, I’ve not seen many Spanish WH/Captains, other than the one that WK made.

Nice fort, similar name to one of JWDarkhurst’s; in English it was ‘Church on the cliff by the sea’, and had extended range and six cannons I think.

Surprised you didn’t react to the Rage of Atlantis (no problem, just figured you’d find it interesting); I may just make her Cursed.

I do find he interesting, just didn’t have anything to say about he when she was posted. This is one of the few times I’d ague against making a ship Cursed. Given the huge amount of custom stuff they’ve already gotten (and will likely continue to get) I think the Atlantis could be better off in another faction. I know you’ve made a TON of Merc stuff, but this would tie in flavor wise to the Atlantis themed Mercenary customs I made for FoBI.

The Triomphe is weird to me. Not much cargo, good cannons and speed. The Link is what makes this weird, since you could fit a HUGE number of named crew on this. Just thinking as I type, if the princess is placed on her, then the possibilities get even wackier.

The Oceania at fist didn’t impress me, but she’s growing on me. Lots of cargo and average speed for a ten. He poorer cannons make me inclined to use boarding oriented combinations with her, such as Captain Nemo and other such crew.

Flavor text kinda makes me want to see the Bilnami as a Junk. 😀 not very good cannons, but decent speed and a built in explorer, all for the cheap cost of 10 points. I think I’d toss on a helmsman and be done with her, she’s perfect for 40-50 point games.

Another nice looking ship. Gotta love that speed, and the cannons aren’t that bad, especially with extended range. In a regular pointed game, this is a nice gunship option, in campaigns and whatnot, I think she’d still see use as a gunship, but would be on the outskirts of formations, away from the capital ship fighting.

As is often the case, Rakario would be better off not on his linked ship I think. Getting him onto one of their 4 mast galleys would be the best option for him, along with some kind of boarding roll bonus, to take advantage of the last part of the S-Board ability.

I’m guessing he’s free, since he doesn’t have a point cost? 😀 Though I’m assuming he’s around 8-9 points, based off of WK costing.

I really like the Legacy. Interesting combination of keywords. I feel that any six mast with predominately decent cannons will wind up being fielded as some kind of gunship, regardless of cargo and speed. 😀

Interesting ten. Not very fast, and cannons are not so accurate. However, the boarding bonus is very nice. This would pair nicely with a Gold-Capture crew or Captain Nemo, who could then feed his captives to Havana Black. Furthermore, this is Pirate. The Pirates have TONS of great crew, with wold hates, SAT/EA and other nice options. It would be very easy to tun this into a boarding focused dreadnought. Her one problem is her speed. S isn’t going to catch anything and a max speed of S+S won’t catch much either. However I think that a speed of S is a good thing, otherwise this could get very powerful very quickly.

Small quibble with the flavor text. If the crew of the Revolt revolted, then I don’t think they would consider themselves slaves still. So instead of ‘slaves’ maybe ‘former slaves’. Just a suggestion.

If I’m understanding this correctly, Gojira may shoot only one cannon on a shoot action that has twice the normal range, that if it hits does not eliminate a mast from the target ship, but instead gives the target ship a firemast.

    Is that about right?

For the sake of forum speed and potential quoting/unresolved site issues (sorry, hope to resolve sometime!), I’d prefer if people didn’t post a ton of pictures within their posts.  But you can also link to the picture as you would a regular link that should open in a new tab, same for albums.

Allright, I see the picture icon, I’ll see if I can find some old Photobucket images o some stuff from postimage.

I just finished a 5 mast in between posting I’ll Change my profile pic to show it off after its paint dries.
