Jonathan BowenParticipantAlright, so I assume nothing was thought of as horribly bjorken or unusable ?
So I’m back with more!Relevant Keywords:
–Nephilim: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against pieces with the Demon keyword. If this ship is assigned a helmsman crew, she gains +L to her base move instead of +S
–Man-O’-War: Once, before you give this ship a shoot action, roll a d6. On a result of an odd number, her cannons become rank 2 for this turn. On a result of an even number, she eliminates two masts with each hit for this turn.
–Repeating Guns: When this ship is given a shoot action, you may declare that she is using repeating guns. If all cannons hit during that shoot action, each cannon may shoot again. (This action does not count towards the two action limit) For each cannon that misses on its second shot, eliminate one mast or cargo from that ship.
10. Maellartach
Points: 35
Masts: 5
Cannons: 3S, 3S, 3S, 3S, 3S
Cargo: 4
Base Move: S+S
Ability: Nephilim. Man-O’-War. Repeating Guns.Flavor: The most heavily armed and war-ready ship in Herondale’s fleet, Maellartach is prepared to deliver holy justice to all who oppose her. No other warship has yet to match her destructive power.
11. RNS Moonfire
Points: 16
Masts: 4
Cannons: 2S, 2L, 2L, 2S
Cargo: 3
Base Move: L+S
Ability: Nephilim. When this ship is docked at your home Island, you may eliminate one treasure. It becomes a 3S cannon that be eliminated only when this ship sinks.Flavor: Crewed by members of Herondale’s cult, the Moonfire’s captain always ensures that his ship has more than enough firepower to defend her home and pursue her enemies.
I know that the Maellartach (male-are-talk) is Probably bjorken beyond reason, but it’s name comes from a very powerful artifact in the Shadowhunter novels, so…. I probably overcompensated her ?
Let me know what y’all think of these two pieces, and I’ll get back to ya as soon as I can.
Until next post;

Jonathan BowenParticipantIt’s once again been a long while since I’ve posted ?
@Woelf: So, as the Repeating Guns keyword is currently worded, do you believe that it should be reworded so that the extra cannon shots are mandatory, or is it fine as is?Today I also bring two new English pieces from Eldest Seas! ?
Relevant Keywords:
-Ironclad: you must roll a 5 or 6 to hit this ship.
-Nephilim: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against pieces with the Demon keyword. If this ship is assigned a helmsman crew, she gains +L to her base move instead of +S
-Privateer: This piece may use its abilities on any ship, but it gains the Loyal: X keyword for its flag faction.
8. HMS Irondale
Points: 20
Masts: 3
Cannons: 2L, 3S, 2L
Cargo: 3
Base Move: L
Ability: Ironclad. Nephilim.Flavor: One of the few ironclads to come from England’s shipyards, the Irondale was taken by Jace Herondale and modified to fit his needs.
9. Stephen Surrez
Points: 7
Ability: Privateer. Marine. Oarsman.Flavor: An elderly sailor, Surrez has served on more ships than most top-ranking admirals. No matter the ship, room is always made to include Surrez, as his wisdom and skill with a rifle are invaluable on most vessels.
Ok, so I know that there were actually many a successful Ironclad ship in the English navy, historically speaking, but I’m a silly derp who doesn’t research stuff before assuming that the fantasy-steampunk world of Pirates CSG is somehow canon to the real world ???
Anyway, let me know what y’all think of these pieces! Give me any questions, comments, or concerns you may have about them, and I’ll hopefully respond or post again before October begins ?

Jonathan BowenParticipantIt’s been a loooong time since I’ve posted here ??
@Woelf: When I said “Flag Faction”, I was referring to the crew’s faction (the flag on the back of the punch-out). If that needs to be simply stated as the crew’s nationality, I can do that.
And yes, I know that Loyal: X is virtually useless. Honestly, part of the reason I made the Privateer keyword was to give Imperial Faction crew the same capabilities of Ex-Patriots without giving them such a hindrance, and because I’ve had mixed feedback on giving non-mercenary crew the Ex-Patriot keyword. And even if Loyal: X doesn’t do much, It’s still an ongoing concern for the player to ensure that whoever satisfies the Loyal: X stays on the ship to keep the Privateer crew on board. It’s probably not sufficient, but it’s something. Now, onto today’s post!
I don’t really have an intro for these, it’s just more English from Pirates of the Eldest SeasRelevant Keywords
–Repeating Guns: When this ship is given a shoot action, you may declare that she is using repeating guns. If all cannons hit during that shoot action, each cannon may shoot again. (This action does not count towards the two action limit) For each cannon that misses on its second shot, eliminate one mast or cargo from this ship.
–Nephilim: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against pieces with the Demon keyword. If this ship is assigned a helmsman crew, she gains +L to her base move instead of +S
6. RNS Alicante
Points: 20
Masts: 5
Cannons: 3S,3L,3L,3L,3S
Cargo: 4
Base Move: S+S
Ability: Repeating Guns. This ship gets +1 to boarding rolls for every crew on her. If this ship’s linked crew is not assigned to her, she gains the Nephilim keyword.
Link: Jace HerondaleFlavor: Named for the mythical homeland of the Nephilim, Jace Herondale’s preferred flagship is armed and ready for combat against any and all enemies of the sea.
7. Jace Herondale
Points: 14
Ability: Nephilim. Captain. Marine
Link: RNS AlicanteFlavor: Herondale is a leading member in a religious cult. Himself and his followers firmly believe that they are more than human, the only beings capable of banishing demons from the world. As of yet, they haven’t failed to deliver on their promise to do just that.
These pieces are subject to change depending on feedback and improvement suggestions.
Let me know what you think about these two pieces; leave comments, questions, and concerns, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.Until next post,

Jonathan BowenParticipantI see your point about Jackson, but I also think he’d be a little complicated. Royal Officer only works if he’s assigned with Caruthers or Springfield. It does, however, meet the requirements of Privateer, since Loyal: England (in this example) just needs a crew or ship to work. And keep in mind, his points still count towards the build total; so in a standard 40-point game, he still takes up at least 8-10 (accounting for change) points. I agree, though that he’d be powerful in campaign-style games.
I think I’ll add a no-stacking limit to Royal officer, like, it can only have effect in one instance on a ship.
I’d assumed that Privateer would be about the same as Ex-Patriot. But if the negative isn’t enough, then I could see it being worth 2 points instead of just one.
-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantHello again, everybody
it’s been longer than I’d hoped, but I bring with me the next pieces from Pirates Of The Eldest Seas ?Relevant Keywords
Privateer: This piece may use its abilities on any ship, but it gains the Loyal: X keyword for its flag faction.
Royal Officer: When this crew is assigned with or on its Linked piece, its point cost is not counted towards the point limit of the ship. The crew’s points still count towards the build total.
World-Hater: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against any [non-faction] ship.
SAT: Once per turn, before you give this ship an action, roll a d6. On a 5-6, this ship may be given the Same Action Twice.
3. Commodore Bartholomew Jackson
Points: 8
Ability: Privateer. Royal Officer. Captain. World-Hater.
Link: Lt. Charles Carruthers; Stevedore SpringfieldFlavor: As one of the Grand Admiral’s most trusted officers, Commodore Jackson was humiliated when an ex-pirate was given command of the Avenger instead of himself. Greedily desiring command of the war galleon, Jackson plans to stage a mutiny and claim what is rightfully his once he gets Bluebeard to trust him.
4. Lt. Charles Carruthers
Points: 7
Ability: Privateer. Musketeer. SAT.
Link: Commodore Bartholomew Jackson; Stevedore SpringfieldFlavor: Lt. Caruthers is a skilled strategist and loyal friend of Commodore Jackson. Caruthers was personally brought onto the Avenger by Jackson because he knew the Lieutenant would back his mutinous plans.
5. Stevedore Springfield
Points: 5
Ability: Privateer. This ship gets +1 to her equipment shot rolls.
Link: Commodore Bartholomew Jackson; Lt. Charles CarruthersFlavor: Springfield is a weapons master who accidentally stumbled into a meeting between Admiral Jackson and Lt. Caruthers. However, instead of reporting the mutinous sailors to Bluebeard, he decided to join them, adding his much needed knowledge of warship-level arsenal stocks to the mutiny plan.
Just crew today; but hopefully more tomorrow ??
I know that Royal Officer is probably too cheap right now, and needs a solid point cost. I’ll keep thinking on how to balance/price it. Until then, let me know what y’all think of these pieces, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Jonathan BowenParticipantHey, Y’all
I haven’t posted in a while because prep for school stuff, and I’m still trying to modify some of the new keywords from Eldest Seas. ??So! Instead of starting with The Cursed, as I had originally planned, this set will follow my usual pattern of England, America, Pirates, The Cursed, Spain, and France.
So here are the first two English pieces from Pirates of the Eldest Seas! ?
Relevant Keywords
–Man-O’-War: Once, before you give this ship a shoot action, roll a d6. On a result of an odd number, her cannons become 2-rank for this turn. On a result of an even number, she eliminates two masts with each hit for this turn.
–Privateer: This piece may use its abilities on any ship, but it gains the Loyal: X keyword for its flag faction.
–Royal Officer: When this crew is assigned with or on its Linked piece, its point cost is not counted towards the point limit of the ship. The crew’s points still count towards the build total.
1. RNS Avenger
Points: 19
Masts: 5
Cannons: 4L, 3L, 3L, 3L, 4L,
Cargo: 3
Base Move: S
Ability: Man-O’-War.
Link: Admiral BluebeardFlavor: The Avenger is the pride and joy of Grand Admiral Whitley’s war armada. Captained by the slightly deranged ex-pirate who calls himself Bluebeard, this galleon is meant to do exactly as her name implies.
2. Admiral Bluebeard
Points: 7
Ability: Hostile: Cursed. Privateer. Royal Officer. Once per turn, you may give one ship in your fleet +1 to her cannon rolls.
Link: RNS AvengerFlavor: Once a feared pirate, Bluebeard was captured During Grand Admiral Jason Thorn’s term. When Stafford Whitley took the position, he offered Bluebeard the life of an English privateer; a choice that he still doesn’t regret.
With luck, I’ll start posting more frequently again. Let me know what y’all think of these pieces; leave comments, questions, and concerns, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Until next post;

Jonathan BowenParticipantProbably a tie between the DJC Flying Dutchman, the USS Enterprise, the San Cristobal, and the Zeus. Maybe Paradis de la Mer. Although having more than one Sea Dragon sounds way more impressive to me ?
Jonathan BowenParticipantAlright, everyone
I’ve teased this a little before, and I dropped the name in the Black Mongoose Tavern.
It’s time for the next set. ??I give you: Pirates of the Eldest Seas!
Now, before I begin posting pieces, I should really preface this with how I got the inspiration for this set. Recently, I started reading the Shadowhunter novels by Cassandra Clare. I really liked the books, and immediately began thinking: “These would make interesting pieces for Pirates…” (This set, as usual for me, contains a total of 20 pieces per faction, but does NOT have any Mercenary pieces. It will, however, have eight Special Edition pieces, and a set of Super Rares.) The Shadowhunter books deal with religion, Demons, Nephilim (children of humans and angels), and is not isolated to a single country or region of the world. As such, a few new keywords needed to be made. Eldest Seas has seven new keywords, three of which are just new shorthand for existing abilities that I got tired of writing out ?? I will introduce these keywords now, and post the first pieces soon.
New Keywords:
1. Privateer: This piece/crew may use its abilities on any ship, but it gains the Loyal: X keyword for its flag faction.
2. Demon: This piece has the Fear and Eternal keywords. This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against any ship.
3. Nephilim: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against pieces with the Demon keyword. If this ship is assigned a helmsman crew, she gains +L to her base move instead of +S
4. Royal Officer: When this crew is assigned with or on its Linked piece, its point cost is not counted towards the point limit of the ship. The crew’s points still count towards the build total of the game.
5. L-Mover*: Give this ship a move action but do not move her. Instead, roll a d6. On a result of 5 or 6, move an enemy ship L in any direction.
6. All-Powerful*: Once per turn, roll a d6. On a 1–4, you may give this ship an extra action; on a 5, you may give any ship you control an extra action; on a 6, you may give an enemy ship an action.
7. Ambassador: Crew of any nationality may use their abilities on this ship.
(*I know that these keywords are already common vernacular, but this is the first time I’ve included them in my master list of keywords.)
I know that the Demon keyword is essentially a combination of existing keywords, but that, to me, seems accurate to the characters in the books. I am also aware of the potentially game-breaking implications of the Royal Officer keyword. However, this piece only appears on seven crew in this set, and is mostly limited to imperial nations (England, Spain, France).
If you have questions, comments, or concerns, leave them for me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible! ?
Until next post;

Jonathan BowenParticipantI think what really throws me off the Devil of the North is her cannons. I don’t disagree that she’s a good ship; it’s just that I personally have trouble hitting with 2-rank cannons ????
So when I see ships with 4-ranks, I immediately avoid using them, regardless of abilities, because I know that the chances are, she will be close to defenseless under my control. Additionally, (this is just opinion) when I see a ship that has less than 5 masts and is 20+ points, I expect a really good offensive/defensive ability, a really good link combo, or exceptional cannons/combat potential. Now the Devil does deliver on combat potential, but to my eyes, the biggest draw is the ability, which wouldn’t do anything for me, since I would barely be able to hit with her cannons. Granted, she has six shots, but if you don’t get the first shot with the Devil, she’s probably sunk. Again, I don ‘t think she’s a bad ship. I just personally am not a huge fan of the point cost, and wouldn’t use her.In juncture with my previous statements, I feel like the Satan’s Ascent falls into a similar category with points, but I see a little more justification for her. She’s a Submarine, and can literally hide from most ships with impunity, her cannons are much better than the Devil’s, and with Firepot Specialist built in, there’s even more possibilities for solid or over the top combos in that massive cargo hold and point buffer.
Don’t get me wrong, they are both good ships and have their uses; but if I had to choose between the Devil or the Ascent, I’d more than likely choose the Ascent.
The Archking Demonlord has a very unique ability there. And with his 11 points in consideration, it’ll likely be used on almost whatever ship he’s on. would love to see him in use in the future ?
-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipant@Ben:
I’m not sure how I feel about the point cost for Devil of the North; I don’t own a lot of Longships, so I don’t really know if they’re much more expensive, but the base move and the cannons don’t really justify 22 points, in my opinion. The Cargo-Wrecking, though very useful, isn’t much of a point booster either, especially since the Devil has all rank-4 cannons. It’s definitely usable, however, what with a possibility for six long-range shots. I just don’t think I’d personally use it.I really like the Flameburst. I literally don’t know why I’ve never made a mercenary flotilla. ??
In Return of Davy Jones, I made a Spanish flotilla (La Corona) that had one cargo, and could carry/use specifically equipment shots. This reminds me of the Corona in a way, since it has a built in Fire Shot.
Really cool Idea! I wanna use it… ?-J. W. Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantAnother day, another drink at the Tavern.
Today, I bring another Tale from the Dark Tides. A tale of harsh bitterness in the frozen heart of winter…Nobleman Jacques Schofield
Ice frosted the elaborate glass window panes in Jacques Schofield’s study. He sat at his desk, admiring a new portrait and sipping a glass of fine wine from his winter stash. The flickering candlelight created a warm atmosphere which contrasted dramatically with the stark white suit and hair of the nobleman. A fireplace was bright and crackling on the wall furthest from the door.
Jacques stood and walked over to the frosted window and looked into the storm outside. It was a blizzard out there. Schofield sighed and turned back towards his desk. There was a knock at the door.
“Come in,” Schofield said in a bored voice. A man entered the room, brushing snow off of his damp uniform. He saluted the nobleman, a gesture Jacques appreciated very much.
“What do you have to report, Mr. Klein?”, the nobleman asked. The man stood, slightly out of breath by the open door. His face was red from the cold, and there was melting frost on his uniform and at his hairline. He spoke in a stuttering voice, teeth chattering from the cold draft that came in through the open doorway.
“S-sir. The w-workers have refused t-to work in these weather conditions. They have demanded-”
Schofield held up his hand to the man.
“Mr. Klein, what do you mean, “they refuse to work”?”
“Well… Sir, they’ve said that they won’t work unless the factories are supplied with proper fireplaces. And they have demanded that-”
“Stop”
Schofield’s voice was soft, but stern. His white eyebrows arched in a disapproving scowl. The nobleman sighed, clearly disappointed.
“I suppose I should’ve expected this leniency from you, Mr. Klein, so let me make this very clear to you.” Schofield walked up to the man, who was clearly intimidated.
“Those workers do not demand anything. This is not the “Workers’ Ironworks & Ship-Building Company”, is it?”
Mr. Klein tried to stammer out an answer, but Schofield cut him off.
“No. This is the Schofield Ironworks & Ship-Building Company. So tell me, Mr. Klein, what do you mean, “They won’t work?” They do not make that decision. I do. And unless they want to spend this winter unemployed and on the streets, they will work until I tell them otherwise.”
Klein gave Jacques a look full of dread. The Schofield Company was infamous throughout England. It never stopped; the factories were never silent; the workers had no days off. Klein sighed.
“Of course, sir,” he said, saluting the nobleman. “I shall…inform the guards of your wishes. Good day.”
“Klein,” Schofield spoke calmly. The man stopped cold in his tracks.
“You and I both know that words have no real effect on these lowlife workers,” the nobleman had a cold, disturbingly pleased look in his eyes. “Tell the guards that they may use whatever method of persuasion they feel is necessary to get the workers going again.”
Klein took a shuddering breath before salting Schofield, and then left, closing the door behind him. Jacques Schofield returned to the window and gazed through the frosted windows and beyond the tempest, towards the factories. A smile slowly spread across his face in anticipation of the first gunshot. This concludes the fourth story from the Dark Tides.
In roughly two day’s time, there will be new ships and sailors introduced from the Eldest Seas.
Until then, my fellow sailors, Good day
-J. W. Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantHey y’all!
I’m back at the Tavern; so you know what that means. Another tale from the Dark Tides.Today, we join a pirate captain, awoken in the dead of night…
One-Eyed Bennet
There was a loud knock on the door. A voice spoke loudly through the thick wood: “Cap’n! There’s, uhh… A situation on deck.”
One-Eyed Bennett had woken up at the sound of the knock, and was prepared to throw this man overboard until he heard the uncertainty in his voice. Clearly something was wrong.
Draping his coat on his shoulders and fastening the top button, Bennett approached the door and opened it, lit lantern in hand.
“What’s th’ proble- Mr. Nautilus??”
Bennett looked with furious surprise at the face of the Storm Stalker’s helmsman.
“What the devil are you doing away from your post?!?”
The helmsman tried to answer, but was at a loss for words. Quite a worrisome detail, as it was normally difficult to get Nicholas Nautilus to shut up.
“It’s best if you come see, Cap’n.”
The captain grunted and began to follow the helmsman. “You didn’t answer my question.”
“The first mate, Mr. McBain had th’ crew drop anchor, sir.” Nautilus was leading the captain to the main deck of the ship. “He sent me to to wake ye up. The lookouts weren’t at their stations, what with the storm. So no one saw the longboat until he… It was already on board the Storm Stalker.”
Bennett raised an eye brow at the brief stutter. He was about to ask Nautilus to explain when they reached the Storm Stalker’s main deck.
The sea was rough, rain drenching the sails and deck of the Storm Stalker. Lightning flashed, briefly illuminating the tense scene before Captain Bennett and Mr. Nautilus: the first mate, Scott McBain, had his sword drawn, pointed at a pale, figure while the rest of the crew stood at the ready, prepared to draw their swords, daggers, or pistols. Bennett’s one eye widened in disbelief. He made his way up next to McBain, and stared at the figure before him. It was tall and thin, dressed in threadbare navy pants, a stained white shirt, and a tattered cerulean coat. A dark red bandanna adorned the smooth surface of its scalp. Underneath all of the soaked clothes stood a skeleton. A bony frame covered in ghostly flesh. A faint grimace became visible on the figure’s spectral visage. The skeletal man spoke:
“Cap’n Cutlass… It’s been a while.”
Bennett’s look of shock faded into a deep scowl.
“Mr. Brine.” The pirate took a shaky breath. “Indeed it has.”Thus concludes the third story from the Dark Tides.
I will be back soon enough to tell the next tale, my fellow sailors. Until then, enjoy your drinks at the Black Mongoose. Good day.
-J. W. Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantThat’s a pretty powerful ship, there. It almost sounds like something Xerecs or I made! ??
I’d say the points are probably accurate considering the combination of abilities and other stats. Really cool concept though!
Additionally, a named Shipwright is generally an unusual find in any set, and the ability combo potentials given by Evylaethil on a good Rebel gunship sound like fun to play-test and use ?-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantAh; I had the names wrong ?? (I’ll see what I can do to fix that)
Well, while having a specific named crew, like the Witch King would be probably ideal, I was kinda going for an Unblinking 99 feel, where its just one crew, but it encompasses all of the mentioned characters/individuals.
Jonathan BowenParticipant@Xerecs: I’ll post when I’m alive inside again. ????
Jonathan BowenParticipant@Ben: So you suggest a link similar to the Heart of Stone?
I can Make the Barad-dûr’s cannons more accurate or change/add the World-Hating, but I don’t want to make her a fort. I kinda like the idea that whoever finds the ring will be pursued by two fairly good gunships for a majority of the game. I was honestly tempted to make one if not both of the ships and maybe even the crew have the Eternal Keyword. And while having dragons would be way cool, I don’t want to break the WK trend of 4 pieces in Super Rare packs. However, for naming The Fell and the Nazgûl, I used Wikipedia for the name info, so I might have them wrong between which is the Wraiths and which is the dragons. ? Either way, I’m not gonna change names just yet.
@Woelf: I see ypur point. Looking back, I basically, without realizing it until now, incorporated the Ring’s power to corrupt and control its possessor, since who wouldn’t want that kind of immunity. ?
Considering that the Ring in LoTR makes the wearer invisible to the eyes of people, would it make a better ability if you just couldn’t be boarded by non-Cursed ships? Somehow I feel like that would be worse, but you tell me what you think about it.Thank you both for your feedback!! 😀
-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipant@Ben and Woelf: Thank you for your feedback! I will probably try playtesting at the suggested 11 points, and we’ll see how that works.
And now, the final installment in Seas of Doom (for reals this time): The Super Rares.
Relevant Keywords:
–World-Hater: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against any [non-faction] ship.
–Man-O’-War: Once per turn, before you give this ship a shoot action, roll a d6. On a result of an odd number, her cannons become 2-rank for this turn. On a result of an even number, she eliminates two masts with each hit.
1. Nazgûl
Points: 15
Masts: 3
Cannons: 2S, 2L, 2S
Cargo: 1
Base Move: S+L
Ability: Schooner. When another ship loads “The Ring”, this ship gets +S to her base move, and +1 to her cannon and boarding rolls against that ship.
Link: The Fell
Faction Affiliation: The CursedFlavor: Decorated with the skulls of Sea Dragons, the Nazgul is the home of the Fell, and one of the few ships that can ferry these demons across the waves.
2. The Fell
Points: 7
Ability: Captain. World-Hater.
Link: Nazgûl; Barad-dûr
Faction Affiliation: The CursedFlavor: Once, the Fell were human sailors, mortal in every way. However, their souls and bodies were corrupted by a powerful relic of the old world. Now they roam the ocean, searching for their lost treasure, and filled with a hatred for every other living things in the world.
3. Barad-dûr
Points: 25
Masts: 5
Cannons: 4L, 3S, 3S, 3S, 4L
Cargo: 5
Base Move: L
Ability: Man-O’-War. When another ship loads “The Ring”, this ship gets +S to her base move, and +1 to her cannon and boarding rolls against that ship. Once per turn you may look at one face down treasure on any ship.
Link: The Fell
Faction Affiliation: The CursedFlavor: The mainstay ship of the Fell and their minions, the Barad-Dur is more of a floating fortress than a ship. Though the Fell are usually never on board, their foul minions man the ship well in their absence.
4. The Ring (unique treasure)
-Load this treasure face up. This treasure cannot be destroyed, only transferred between ships. Before giving this ship an action, decide if The Ring is in use. If it is, then this ship can only sustain damage from Cursed ships. If this ship is sunk by another ship, The Ring is automatically transferred to that ship. And with that, Seas of Doom is finished.
I will probably take *a few* months off before I post new content and not just responses.
And speaking of which, tell me what y’all think of the Super Rares! leave comments, questions and concerns, and I’ll get back y=to you as soon as I can.Until next post;
-J. W. Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipant@Ben: Lol. At this point, whatever the flavor says is kinda just my head-canon. It makes sense in correspondence with the next faction. ? But for the record, “No body, No death” ?
For the L’annonciateur, I can totally adjust to the second ability with your recommended point cost.
And about her origins, if I’m being honest, I ran out of Ideas, and was like: “sure; why not?” ??♂️Alright, since I just mentioned them, I might as well present the next two sets of Limited’s. They’re quite a doozy.
Relevant Keywords:
–Fleet Admiral: Once, at the beginning of your turn, roll a d6. On a 6, give any one ship in your fleet an extra action.–World-Hater: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against any [non-faction] ship.
11. Lord Tyrannous
Points: 8
Ability: Loyal: Pirate. Hostile: England. Fleet Admiral. Once per turn, choose any one friendly ship in play. That ship gains the Parley keyword for this turn.
Link: Challenger
Faction Affiliation: PirateFlavor: After Captain Mysion’s fleet was obliterated by the Spanish, one would assume that a power vacuum would form among the existing nine Pirate Lords. However, a man who calls himself Lord Tyrannous stepped in and, before anyone even knew what was going on, took over as the new Pirate King. Lord Tyrannous avoids politics and appeases the Pirate Lords on the grounds that, on the rare occasion he gives orders, they do as he says without question.
12. Challenger
Points: 25
Masts: 3
Cannons: 4L,4S,4L
Cargo: 3
Base Move: S
Ability: This ship cannot sustain damage from any other game piece unless she attacks it first. This includes shoot actions, ramming, and specialist/equipment shots. When this ship’s last mast is eliminated, she sinks.
Link: Lord Tyrannous
Faction Affiliation: PirateFlavor: The favorite ship of Lord Tyrannous, The Challenger, is small and agile, making her exceptionally difficult to shoot. Tyrannous uses this to his advantage in every possible way, avoiding conflict, Imperial Navies, and other, less-natural folk.
13. Victoria Hellsing
Points: 9
Ability: Ex-Patriot. World-Hater. Marines placed on this ship get +1 to their gun rolls.
Link: Leviathan
Faction Affiliation: MercenaryFlavor: Heiress of the Van Hellsing family, Victoria has taken to the seas to uphold her family’s legacy on the ocean. New to the seas, she “borrowed” one of Nemo’s old subs, and armed it with as many guns as she could, ensuring that at least one of them will hit.
14. Leviathan
Points: 18
Masts: 3
Cannons: 2S,2L,2S
Cargo: 4
Base Move: S+S
Ability: Mercenary. Submarine. Two hits from the same shoot action are required to eliminate one of this sub’s segments when she’s submerged.
Link: Victoria Hellsing
Faction Affiliation: MercenaryFlavor: One of Nemo’s first submersibles, the Leviathan has a specially modified hull, so that no creature from the deep can penetrate the armored submarine.. Unfortunately, her hull returns to normal strength when she leaves the extreme pressures of the deep, which makes the crew wary of surfacing at any time.
Yes, I know that the Challenger could be seen as totally OP. However, damage just means masts; Cargo-Wreckers will still work against her. They just can’t eliminate masts until the Challenger shoots them, or the ability is canceled.
Let me know what you think of these pieces; leave questions, concerns or ideas, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Super Rares tomorrow.
Until next post;

Jonathan BowenParticipantHey, y’all
It’s been a few days, but I’ve got the next two factions of LE pieces from Seas of Doom!Relevant Keywords:
–Repeating Guns: When this ship is given a shoot action, you may declare that she is using repeating guns. If all cannons hit during that shoot action, each cannon may shoot again. (This action does not count towards the two action limit) For each cannon that misses on its second shot, eliminate one mast or cargo from this ship.
–Blockade Runner: This ship gets +1 to ramming and boarding rolls. This ship can’t have her masts rammed off.
7. Grand Inquisitor Augustín de Alva
Points: 8
Ability: Captain. This ship gets +1 to boarding and cannon rolls against non-Spanish ships.
Link: Ira de Dios
Faction Affiliation: SpainFlavor: An illegitimate and disgraced son of the De Alva family, Augustín has risen to a higher rank than any other member of his famed family. Now, with his power as an Inquisitor, Augustín vowed to one day be the only De Alva worth remembering in the history books.
8. Ira de Dios
Points: 25
Masts: 5
Cannons: 2S,3L,3L,3L,2S
Cargo: 4
Base Move: S+S
Ability: Repeating Guns. Blockade Runner.
Link: Grand Inquisitor Augustín de Alva
Faction Affiliation: SpainFlavor: Armed with the best weapons and a heavily-armored hull, the “Wrath of God” was specially commissioned by the Grand Inquisitor to fit his personal needs. Given that her maiden voyage saw the end of Captain Mysion and his entire personal fleet, the Wrath will likely be the tool with which Inquisitor De Alva secures notoriety and fame in history.
9. René Belgarde
Points: 6
Ability: Musketeer. When this ship is docked at your home island, you may eliminate one treasure. It becomes a 3S cannon that can be eliminated only when this ship sinks.
Link: L’annonciateur
Faction Affiliation: FranceFlavor: René Belgarde isn’t much more than a soldier of the crown, but his experience and skills in combat are a valuable asset. Rumor says that he can train the gunmen on a ship to load and shoot at record speeds, making it seem like whatever ship he’s assigned to has twice as many cannons as it should.
10. L’annonciateur
Points: 19
Masts: 5
Cannons: 3S,3L,3L,3L,3S
Cargo: 4
Base Move: L
Ability: This ship eliminates two masts with each hit./This ship eliminates two masts, segments, or flags from its targets when she rolls a 6 on a cannon roll.
Link: René Belgarde
Faction Affiliation: FranceFlavor: Found half-wrecked and abandoned on a small island off the coast of Tortuga, The French have taken this galleon and salvaged what they could. Erasing all traces of her pirate origin, and outfitting her with proper guns, sailcloth, and crew accommodations, the Harbinger now flies the tri-colored flag of France into combat against the pirates she once belonged to.
I’m trying to decide the final ability for L’annonciateur. What do you guys think, of the options provided, would be best?
Leave your comments, questions, suggestions, and ideas, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Only two more factions left!Until next post;

Jonathan BowenParticipant@El Cazador:
Alright; I’ve experimented with abilities like that before. I can change it to that with out a problem.
And yes; I used the Movie Prometheus as name inspiration. Even tho I’ve never seen it… ??
Jonathan BowenParticipant@Ben: When it’s 12:40 at night, and you’re still typing, there is such a thing as “too long of a post” ????
Hey everybody! Today I’ve got two more factions from Seas of Doom’s LE section!
Relevant Keywords
–Fleet Admiral: Once, at the beginning of your turn, roll a d6. On a 6, give any one ship in your fleet an extra action.
3. Porphyrion
Points: 22
Masts: 5
Cannons: 2S,2S,4L,3S,3S
Cargo: 4
Base Move: L
Ability: Extended Range. This ship gets +1 to cannon rolls against any ship. She gets +2 to cannon rolls against forts.
Link: Marcus Augustine
Faction Affiliation: The CursedFlavor: A ship made from salvaged pieces of roman triremes, the Porphyrion has made a name for herself by sacking countless port towns, forts, and all manner of land-based establishments belonging to the imperial countries of the world. For reasons unknown, her captain has, on more than one occasion, run from combat against enemy ships in favor of the preferred targets.
4. Marcus Augustine
Points: 9
Ability: Fleet Admiral. Crew of any nationality may use their abilities on this ship.
Link: Porphyrion
Faction Affiliation: The CursedFlavor: A madman of a prophet who claims to be the child of an ancient god, Marcus has a particular hatred for land-based military establishments. He provides no explanation for this hatred, instead choosing to decimate that which displeases him.
5. HMS Prometheus
Points: 26
Masts: 5
Cannons: 2S,3S,3S,3S,2S
Cargo: 3
Base Move: L
Ability: Two hits from the same shoot action are required to eliminate one of this ship’s masts. Once per turn, roll a d6. On a result of an even number this ship’s cannons have long range for this turn.
Link: Commodore Logan Weyland
Faction Affiliation: EnglandFlavor: Named after the mythological titan who gave fire to mankind, the HMS Prometheus has been given new cannons, and had her hull reinforced for combat. Unfortunately, her crew is a mix of veteran sailors, and new recruits; leading to many malfunctions regarding the efficacy of her superior guns.
6. Commodore Logan Weyland
Points: 10
Ability: This ship cannot be given fire masts. You own any derelict this ship explores; both ships become docked at your home island.
Link: HMS Prometheus
Faction Affiliation: EnglandFlavor: Commodore Weyland is a privateer, given the chance to redeem himself under the Union Jack. Well aware of his tendency to steal ships regardless of what flag he flies, Weyland has made sure that the Prometheus is difficult to sink; just in case the English Navy gives up on him.
I realize now that the Prometheus and her linked crew could also be considered a near-perfect combo, and I’m open to retcon ideas to make it less OP if it is deemed that way.
Leave comments, suggestions, and other input, and I’ll get back to y’all as soon as I can.Until next post,

Jonathan BowenParticipantYeah, I lied…. It’s not exactly “Tomorrow” ??
Hello again, all!
@Ben and Cazador: Thank you both for your feedback on the Doomsday and her linked crew! I’ll probably playtest her at 40 points, and if she’s still completely OP, then I’ll make her a limited use piece
@Cazador: If the Byzantine pieces are meant to be Roman, perhaps the ship name you were thinking of is Triremes? I’m pretty sure that was a type of Sailing vessel used by the Romans.
The Dromon Keyword sounds to me like Galley with a built in fire shot. I might suggest not including the fire ability in the ship keyword, but maybe as a seperate ability on select ships. Additionally, I’ve always imagined “Greek Fire” to be almost like a high power explosive (my bias lies with the Heroes of Olympus book series). I would suggest, perhaps instead of a single fire mast, that it gives maybe “up to a number of fire masts” or something like that. This is all just my two cents on the matter. It just seems odd to me, to make a new keyword that is the same as an already existing one, but with a little more added to it. (I will eat those words later, tbh)
@Ben: That fort looks like it’d be fun to play a game with XD
I’ve already implemented the idea of a boarding system against forts with the Balrog from Seas of Doom, so I wouldn’t call it too crazy just yet ;D But I do think that it might need a limit, and not just be able to use whatever equipment shot you want on a whim.Bynothas seems like an odd crew, especially since I already made an Ex-Pat EA/Captain in FoBI with William Slayde, who was 4 points cheaper. I get that EA and Captain are a very powerful combo, and your guy also includes Fear, but by a combination of both WK pricing and our own pricing system, he seems a little overpriced.
But again, this is all just my opinion on this. Either way, I’d likely still use him in a game XDI’ll post the next group of LE pieces hopefully tomorrow, because I’m tired and this post is already too long ??

Jonathan BowenParticipantHello again, all!
I have returned from my inexplicable hibernation to bring you the final chapter of Seas of Doom!Presenting: The Limited Edition Section
The LE section of Seas of Doom consists of one pair of linked crew and ship for each of the major six factions and the mercenaries respectively (each faction gets a crew and ship that link).
The first LE duo are the Americans. This combo was inspired by the first Terminator movie.1. Doomsday
Points: 30
Masts: 5
Cannons: 2L,3S,3S,3S,2L
Cargo: 3
Base Move: L+S
Ability: Limit. Eternal. This ship eliminates two masts with each hit. Two hits from the same shoot action are required to eliminate one of this ship’s masts.
Link: Commodore Kyle Reese
Faction Affiliation: AmericaFlavor: A powerful weapon of death, the Doomsday is accurately named. Originally intended for a defensive patrol along America’s East coast, the vessel was stolen by a defecting officer who wants to watch the world burn. And with the Doomsday under his control, he just might.
2. Commodore Kyle Reese
Points: 10
Ability: Captain. World-Hater. SAT.
Link: Doomsday
Faction Affiliation: AmericaFlavor: Commodore Reese was driven mad by a personal quest to uncover a family secret. Upon realizing the truth, his reality was shattered, and he fled out of anger, confusion, and fear. Stealing the Doomsday from Boston harbor, the mad commodore knew he would be hunted by the navy; but if he was going to go down, he was going to take his pursuers with him.
Before everyone slaps a “Heck No” onto this, I know it’s bjorkenly OP, and have been considering how to limit its usage since, if we’re being honest, “Limit” is not enough of a negative for America.
I’d wanted the ship to emulate the relentless power of the T-800 from the Terminator movie, and Commodore Reese was meant to be the movie’s second protagonist, Kyle Reese, who was basically a one-man-army in that movie.
I get why this could (and probably will) receive a lot of criticism, what with a Power-Crew and Ship combo, but I’d personally rather not change it too much. Perhaps as a bit of a joke these pieces can only be used on a day that the owner watches one of the Terminator movies ?Let me know what y’all think. The next two factions will be released either tomorrow, or later today.
Until next post,
J. W. Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantIn my opinion, I like the idea of Marines being able to target specific crew. It makes sense to me if they ignore defensive abilities on an island, but I think if they’re on a ship, maybe count as one of the ship’s cannons/guns, at least in the way of the Vega/Algernon ability. However, I think for a generic crew, what WK made might work on its own. I could see it either way, house-ruling to include the add-ons, or remaining as WK made them.
-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipant@Woelf: Perhaps I could give the Mirage an ability similar to that of Dr. Faust from Fiends of the Blood Islands? His ability reads: “Once at the beginning of each of your turns, roll a d6. On a result of 6, instead of giving this ship an action, you may give an enemy ship an action.”
Would this make the Mirage a little less broken?Welcome, Jake!!
It’s always good to see new members ??
And as for that first taste of your custom pieces, they’re pretty solid!
The Retribution seems good; and the Flavor text is neat.Requin has a very valuable ability for The Cursed, but he is way overpriced. Most Same Action Twice (SAT) crew are only three points unless there’s an additional ability involved.
You say you made a novel series? As in…books?? ??
I’d love to hear what that’s all about 🙂-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantAlright; I’ll add that to the Mirage. You think points would stay about the same?
However, it’s only against the Barbary Corsairs, who are a minor faction, which is why I don’t think the ability is worth a lot of points.
Yeah, ok, that’s fair. ??
So if this ability were to appear targeting a major faction (i.e. England or America) it would likely be closer to 5-ish points?-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantPerhaps depending on how broken it is in playtesting, I could give it a semi-severe negative ability? I was thinking of adding “Masts eliminated in this way cannot be repaired.” Does that seem too negative, or basically make the Mirage pointless?
Very interesting ability on the Parasitic Legion. Don’t think I’d use her, but I’m pretty sure that Xerecs and possibly Ginger Ninja would love to use her to be exceptionally irritating in a campaign. ?
Galonessa seems pretty powerful to me. I assume the second ability includes cannons, boarding, and ram damage? Based on the price with SAT and Fear, that ability is looking to be around 3-4 points; which would be the same as or less than standard world-hating. Could be seen as a bit of an underpricing.
Either way, two really neat pieces ??-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantAlrighty; it’s late, but I’ve got one last post of standard release for Seas of Doom. So here we go!
Relevant Keywords:
– Ironclad: You must roll a 5 or 6 to hit this ship.
– HI-Raider: This ship may dock at an enemy Home Island and load one treasure. If able, she must leave on her next turn.17. Mercury
Points: 16
Masts: 3 (jib)
Cannons: 2S,2S,2S
Cargo: 2
Base Move: S+L
Ability: Mercenary. If this ship successfully hits an enemy ship with all of her cannons, eliminate an extra mast from that ship.Flavor: Heavily armed, and always carrying surprises to shoot from her cannons, the Mercury’s crew enjoy launching explosives onto enemy ships to add a little extra “Bang” to the fight.
18. Emerald Mirage
Points: 15
Masts: 2 (square)
Cannons: 2S,3S
Cargo: 2
Base Move: S+S
Ability: Mercenary. Once per turn give this ship a move action, but do not move her. Instead, eliminate a mast from this ship. You may give an enemy ship an action.Flavor: As her name would suggest, the Emerald Mirage is painted in such a way that she shimmers on the horizon, allowing her to slip close to enemy ships before they realize they’re in trouble.
19. Iron Condor
Points: 17
Masts: 3
Canons: 3S,2S,3S
Cargo: 2
Base Move: S+S
Ability: Mercenary. Ironclad. When this ship hits an enemy ship, you choose which mast is eliminated.Flavor: A sign of industrial improvement in the Mercenary hierarchy, the Iron Condor is capable of greater speeds, and has far superior cannons than any of her few predecessors.
20. Bill the Burglar
Points: 8
Ability: Ex-Patriot. HI-Raider. This ship can load and unload cargo at your home island if she’s within S of it.Flavor: Bill is not a man who cares for elaborate adventures and fantastic quests. He’s a simple man of simple pleasures; that usually involve stealing.
At last, we have reached the finale of Seas of Doom. There are a few more sections to be released, but those are Limited Editions and Super Rares ?
As always, leave your comments, questions, and concerns, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.Until next post
-J. W. Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipant@Ben: So given the combination of Captain, Ex-Pat, and the new ability, would you say Julie is good at 6 points, or should go to 7?
Wow!! ??? At first glance, I was unsure if I’d ever use the Inferno, but with that defensive backlash from sinking her, her usability greatly increases ?(at least IMO). Paladin Arnaustas seems just a little OP to me; that’s a crew that would serve well on a 10-mast ship. ? I like the Vital Creek, too. It’s uncommon to find a place outside of your HI where you can safely let a ship repair, or protect your admiral crews. However, I can also see that ability being terribly abused by fleets with multiple Fleet Admirals or Mycron crew. And if I’m being honest, it would be by us. ??
All great pieces; would absolutely use in a game 😀-Darkhurst
Jonathan BowenParticipantAlright, it’s been waaay too long. So here’s the next few Mercenary pieces from Seas of Doom!
Relevant Keywords:
– Repeating Guns: When this ship is given a shoot action, you may declare that she is using repeating guns. If all cannons hit during that shoot action, each cannon may shoot again. (This action does not count towards the two action limit) For each cannon that misses on its second shot, eliminate one mast or cargo from this ship.– World-Hater: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls against any [non-faction] ship.
14. Ambrose
Points: 20
Masts: 4
Cannons: 2S,3S,3S,2S
Cargo: 3
Base Move: S+S
Ability: Mercenary. Repeating Guns.
Link: Julie “Dragon” RoseFlavor: Julie Rose was rescued from the burning wreckage of the Ember Celica by a passing Dutch merchant ship. Following a quick recovery, Julie took over, renaming the ship to Ambrose, and earning the nickname “Dragon” from the frightened merchants before she killed them.
15. Julie “Dragon” Rose
Points: 6
Ability: Ex-Patriot. Hostile: Pirate. Captain. This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls for each ship she sinks
Link: AmbroseFlavor: When the Ember Celica was sunk by The Cursed, Julie Rose was assumed dead. She has come back to formally deny these allegations of her death, and she brings with her a fiery rage as never seen before by any who knew her.
16. Tyson Young
Points: 7
Ability: Ex-Patriot. Helmsman. World-Hater.Flavor: The ex-first mate of Captain Crow’s Huntsman, Tyson Young recognized Julie when she returned to Tortuga. Trying to keep on the good side of a notorious pirate family, he offered his services to Julie aboard the Ambrose as a way to reconcile how he let down her uncle.
If any one finds the flavor text of these pieces confusing, they are story continuations of pieces from the Fiends of the Blood Islands Bonus Packs. If there are any other questions, comments or concerns, let me know, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Until next post,
