Ben started the topic Game Issue – balance vs. quantity in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years, 2 months ago

The game has more of a balance problem than a quantity problem. It’s not that there are too many ships and crew, it’s just that the top 5-10% of each are too good to justify using almost anything else if you really want to win. If things were playtested and costed properly we wouldn’t have such a problem. (OP stuff should be more expensiv…[Read more]

Hello there. I first discovered Pirates back in 2005. I was at a Walgreens, and they had an open booster box of Revolution sitting by the checkout counter. I was intrigued by the “game in every pack” tagline, and since I love the subject of historical Pirates anyways, I grabbed a handful of packs for myself and my son (who was 12 at the time). We…

The increased price of OE at HWG has made me wonder if they’re finally starting to run out….
(from $38 for 36 packs a few years ago, I think $54 earlier this year and now $72)

Latest Battle Report for CG4.

Ben replied to the topic How to Post Pictures in this Forum in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years, 2 months ago

This would be a good thread to sticky to the top, or better yet include in a new post with any other relevant codes and tricks for posting on these forums.

Good point, I’ll think about doing that soon.

Ben replied to the topic Is there anything "fancy" you do in games or with your collection? in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years, 2 months ago

I don’t really do much ‘fancy’ stuff with my collection, other than leaving masts in the water for physical campaign games.

It’s a very open-ended question. I would say your customs collection is rather impressive, since most people either don’t make any customs in physical form, and/or don’t find good uses for their duplicates. You do both, w…[Read more]

Indeed, mostly expensive stuff up right now. Also seeing an unpunched Baochuan.

What is something “fancy” you like doing during games or that you are able to do?

One example I thought of is using all green dice from SCS to mark islands explored for the Jade Rebellion. Though I think I only have a few of the tiny dice from that set. It’s even harder because the Jades don’t have green pennants to use instead, so you’d need…[Read more]

Ben started the topic Contacting NECA/Wizkids in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years, 2 months ago

Trying to call NECA/Wizkids on the phone to ask about Pirates because they don’t respond much to my Facebook messages. Found this. The first number did go to NECA and I then hit the number to go to Wizkids, but got a message saying they weren’t available. Same thing happened when I hit 4 for “Business and Legal Affairs”.

Then called the sec…[Read more]

I talked about my experience with this in 2016, though to a slightly different extent and opinion.

But why did they decide not to keep putting pennants on top of the mainmast? The pennants look cool!

I agree. I remember reading that a lot of people didn’t use them so there just wasn’t demand. Probably saved them a little money on the printing o…[Read more]

@Telxon: Welcome aboard matey! Quite the cool intro story! I remember trying to make battleships out of simple blocks as a kid. Seems a lot of us started early with our love of naval things.

Nice looking punched lot ending today. Seeing the PotC SR ships and some other nice stuff – Endeavour, forts, a kraken.

Ben replied to the topic What expansions do you have? What is your favorite expansion? in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years, 2 months ago

Why they weren’t given a non-promo 5-master in this set, let alone more ships on the level of the superb Grinder, is beyond me.

Great point. The Scorpions are way too overpriced to be effective, so that focus became a weakness.

Love your picks, not far off from mine. I just can’t stand the mediocrity of F&S; I’ve been pleasantly surprised the…[Read more]

Ben started the topic Is Cargo Undercosted? in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years, 2 months ago

I think hoists and some of the high-cargo 4 masters made me think of this thread idea. I feel as though cargo may have been somewhat underpriced by Wizkids, especially in the first and last sets. The Joya del Sol (8 cargo at S+S for 12 points) could easily be 18+ points. I’ve found hoists (especially the Frontier) to be incredibly useful, an…[Read more]
