For some reason, random posts seem to be going to the moderation queue rather than showing up in the forum. I don’t know why and I apologize for that issue. I hope to have time to look into it.
November 4, 2019 at 8:19 PM #10082BenKeymasterI am saving all the pages of the main menu at the Internet Archive in case the site ever goes down for no good reason. 😀
https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://pirateswithben.com/
^Access point would be there, and then you could do the different URL’s for the other pages.
November 23, 2019 at 10:24 AM #10358BenKeymasterNoticing some annoying glitches that may have something to do with the latest update to WordPress, but I’m not sure what’s causing them. If a page takes forever to load, I’ve found that hitting the “stop loading” button (X at upper left of Chrome browser for me) and then reloading it works to get the page up properly. If that’s for a forum post, make sure to copy the text from your post before reloading. In this way, often when I reload the thread, my post appears there normally without having to hit Submit again.
Also noticing that the profile notifications at the upper right are not disappearing after going to a new forum post from threads I’m subscribed to. I’ve been manually deleting the notifications by clicking the number rather than just the dropdown with the post link.
I hope to look into these issues but I cannot guarantee that I’ll have time.
December 6, 2019 at 1:13 AM #10487BenKeymasterWoelf now has editing access to the Master Spreadsheet, so if there are any remaining errors you find in that starting 12/14, he can make the corrections for the shared Google sheet version.
December 7, 2019 at 9:42 AM #10491BenKeymasterJust saved the following URL’s in full page screen capture format and in the Internet Archive:
https://pirateswithben.com/tag/command-the-oceans/Throughout the day/week I will edit this post with more, and then upload them to a Google Photos account too. (certainly not expecting the site to go down, I just want redundancy in protecting my favorite/best content)
December 8, 2019 at 5:59 PM #10513BenKeymasterHere is a version of the Master Spreadsheet with all the sets in one tab. 2652 total game pieces!
You can download it via File>Download, or grab the link at the bottom of the homepage here.
December 12, 2019 at 10:00 PM #10550BenKeymasterNew .xlsx version of the Master Spreadsheet on the homepage. Corrections: Oarsmen>Oarsman in RV UL, fixed ability text for Homemade Flag (both versions of SM).
April 3, 2020 at 7:25 PM #10758BenKeymasterYoutube is giving me a lot of trouble with live streaming (something to do with the switch to “studio” I believe), so for now I won’t be doing any live streams of podcasts/games/etc.
April 9, 2020 at 4:29 PM #10808BenKeymasterTo enhance “findability” on the site, I have added the Best Posts widget to Forum pages under the Recent Posts widget.
April 29, 2020 at 9:50 AM #10897BenKeymasterLatest update to the Master Spreadsheet has a few corrections: Rigetti>Ragetti. Pintell>Pintel in a flavor text. Handful of game piece type changes, mostly from Ship>Crew or vice versa.
July 28, 2020 at 6:19 PM #11504BenKeymasterFixed a few more things in the Master Spreadsheet: Fixed mispelling of Norrington (PotC 080a). Fixed ability text of Spanish Main GS-004. Fixed numbers of OE French ships. Changed “rices” to riches in Thomas Tew’s flavor text.
July 28, 2020 at 7:40 PM #11507BenKeymasterI have updated the Saved from Miniature Trading post with new gallery links. The first two Google Drive links now go to folders (first one regular, second one .zip) that have only the biggest pictures from the MT database. Now there is one folder per set and less clutter. The third link (“ALL”) can still be used to get every Pirates database picture httrack gave me in 2018.
August 2, 2020 at 3:29 PM #11580BenKeymasterI have started a new Category called Miniature Trading Forum Threads where my plan right now is to post one old thread per day from what I have saved. Each actual post (that is the first one) will be full width with no sidebar, so it will make the text as large as possible and almost look like you’re scrolling through MT.
I know I’ve already shared these in GDrive and Imgur through the Saved from MT post, but this way they’ll be directly represented on my site with the images easily visible, with a site post title that matches the old thread title for easier searchability and hopefully easier viewing.
August 24, 2020 at 5:02 PM #11894BenKeymasterMaster Spreadsheet changes: Santa Teresa name fixed in both versions of SM (no “La”), fixed incorrect game piece types in original version of RV.
Also, some easy link references I made with bit.ly:
http://bit.ly/PiratesCSGMasterSpreadsheet
https://bit.ly/CustomsDatabase
This way, if you’re at all like me, just pop open a new tab and type “customsd” or “piratescsgm” and the browser might automatically give you the URL to quickly access the desired spreadsheet.
November 3, 2020 at 6:16 PM #12722BenKeymasterMaster Spreadsheet fixes: changed point costs on Spanish Main +1 to boards crew to 2 points. (Genny’s Red Rampage, Lynch’s Noose, Castro’s Loyalists)
June 1, 2021 at 10:19 PM #13287BenKeymasterHUGE thank you’s to Tilorfire27 (discord username) for his online database, and to jetmoto-1996 for his Full Catalog he so graciously shared and is allowing me to put on the site! I have put links to both databases (which include pictures of the game pieces) on both my homepage and the Information and Stats page which is linked from the main menu.
August 29, 2021 at 2:11 PM #13674BenKeymasterLatest Master Spreadsheet fixes: fixed name of the Flying Fish in RV UL, and changed Revenant faction from Spanish to Pirate in SM 1st Edition.
September 21, 2021 at 10:48 PM #13871BenKeymasterWhen I met up with Tiffany on Saturday, I asked her if the set release schedule (~3 sets per year) was based on marketing/profit expectations, or if that release would be too much too soon. She said it was based on a sales schedule that mass market stores (like Walmart and Target) wanted. (I think they wanted new product every so often)
December 27, 2021 at 8:53 PM #14275BenKeymasterMaster Spreadsheet changes: Fixed Phillipe du Brissac’s link (Maurice Aristide instead of Maurcie), changed name of Blackgate (no space). (new .xlsx is linked on the homepage)
April 11, 2022 at 7:35 AM #14781BenKeymasterold_man tells me he has sold his entire Pirates CSG collection with the exception of his custom made Vieil Homme. 🙁 I’m asking about where his SiaB’s and Obago Deuce may have ended up.
He also said:
everyone can be bought, it only depends only on the amount of money. ?
It was a private sale. Someone contacted me by email and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. The important stuff I shipped to Texas and all the rest I sold privately in Germany.
No word yet on anything else.
April 14, 2022 at 1:38 AM #14784XerecsModeratorold_man tells me he has sold his entire Pirates CSG collection with the exception of his custom made Vieil Homme.
That…… is very sad to hear. First Holo, now old_man. 🙁
March 7, 2023 at 8:25 PM #16382BenKeymasterNot sure how accurate but it’s nice to get a response!
March 8, 2023 at 5:07 PM #16384WoelfModeratorIt looks like a standard canned response that doesn’t commit to anything in either direction, but it is at least nice that they responded.
December 1, 2023 at 12:36 AM #17552BenKeymasterThe Wikipedia page for the game has been heavily edited and cut down by others due to the page supposedly not adhering to Wikipedia’s rules. I have preserved the older version with valuable collecting information here in this post.
December 1, 2023 at 9:22 AM #17553WoelfModeratorFrom looking through the edit history and comparing versions, I can kind of understand why they keep chopping it down. There is a TON of very useful information in the full version, but quite a bit of it goes way beyond (and into far more detail) than what Wikipedia is generally meant to do. Those pages are usually meant to be just a quick overview of the topic, with links to the actual sources.
All of those details on set history, promos, and other specific items are much better suited for your website right here, rather than over there, so I’m glad you saved as much of it as you could and posted it.
February 28, 2024 at 6:10 PM #17900BenKeymasterSad to hear that Kelly Bonilla passed away. (she was lead designer on Rise of the Fiends, Fire and Steel, and Savage Shores + Return to Savage Shores)

June 1, 2024 at 11:19 AM #18548BenKeymasterIntroducing: The Store at Pirates with Ben!
This has been a long time coming. Only a few offerings for now, but there are plans to expand it quite a lot and add new stuff and improvements over time. There might be some issues early on that I’ll work through, but a test transaction and email confirmation worked on my end.
The custom game piece ordering process is likely to evolve over time. For now it’s just a downloadable form with instructions along with a blank PNG artwork template.
Currently the only shipping option available is within the United States and at a flat rate. Both of those things are likely to change over time as well. (shipping destination availability, and shipping prices)
My tentative plan is to add one ship type per week (but hopefully more). The more people buy from the Store, the more likely it is that I can add new products and features. There will also be an opportunity to get sneak peeks for upcoming products, but more on that soon-ish….
June 4, 2024 at 1:52 PM #18617BenKeymasterOn Saturday June 8th, I will be making probably the biggest announcement of my 13 years of Pirates CSG obsession. However, it is not related to Wizkids or affiliated with them, so don’t get your hopes sky-high. 🙂
June 8, 2024 at 8:46 AM #18721BenKeymasterIntroducing: Pirates of the Golden Seas!
July 17, 2024 at 6:41 PM #19048BenKeymasterI have finished my quarterly update of the Scan Project. Scans from Q2 that were in the New Submissions folder have been moved to their appropriate subfolders in the Old Submissions folder. The Master Scan List is up to date.
Thanks to those who submitted scans! (Baltimore8, Serge.Simon, Narcissa Nightshade)
