    There were the only two cancellers in the entire game (Nemesio and LeNoir) when Ghost Ship was introduced, so they had to provide some other way for the average fleet to counter those ships.

    Ah that makes sense. Hypothetically, if Ghost Ship would have been first introduced in a later set, say OE, do you think it’s mechanics would have looked different based on the play environment at that time?

    A couple of rules that always felt funny to me were;

    1.  Galleys can’t eliminate masts when ramming.
    2. Ghostly ships could be shot at while ghostly.

    These both seem to miss the mark thematically and we have house rules reversing them.

    Gotcha, and he needed her to gain some kind of voodoo power from the Loa. What/who exactly are the Loa? Do they have any connection with Davy Jones or El Fantasma?

    Haha love it!

    A couple of quick lore questions that I haven’t been able to find answers to;

    • It’s alluded to that Davy Jones disappeared and El Fantasma resumed command of the cursed. Do we know what happened to Davy Jones at all? @Xerecs I think I saw your custom set Return of Davy Jones, would you have any insight?
    • Whatever happened to Josephine Godiva with Papa Doc form DJC?
    • Why were Vikings never reprinted? Were they wiped out like the Corsairs and the Jade Rebellion?

    Maybe these aren’t even answered at all since wizards shut down but if y’all have any insights I’d love to hear it!

    I’ve got a couple of those on your list, unfortunately most of the are punched. Do you prefer them one way or the other?

    this wiki that looks almost exactly like what you describe.

    Aha! That’s exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. It looks like it still needs some work but it’s got some good stuff! I’ve always wanted to know what happened to Davy Jones and the whole Papa Doc/Godiva story. Maybe we’ll find something there.

    I was actually just thinking about doing a post following the careers of the main “cast” of myself, Calico Cat, Blackheart, and Fantasma. The wiki probably lays it all out but I love Cat’s story.

    I’d be super interested in reading that if you ever did it. Or add it to the wiki, I noticed there’s nothing on Calico Cat in there so that’d be a good addition! Might be good to mention her association with the Crimson Angel too.

    Woelf has advised against putting keywords within keywords because it needlessly complicates things.

    I definitely see the wisdom in that and it will be one of the many things I weed out when I run through the doc again.

    Haha it’s good to be back!

    I did a quick run through of the doc and I noticed the same thing, that a lot of the abilities somehow wound up scrunched together at the bottom. I’m not sure what happened there. I’m sure I have the original file kicking around somewhere along with “The Resurrection” set as well. I’ll take a peek and let you know. It might be a fun project to clean up and continue with some of the old ideas I had.

    I did also notice you made a comment on the original site asking about the “Admiral” keyword. From what I can guess it looks like I combined the helmsman and captain abilities into one, less wordy, evergreen keyword.

    Oh wow I think that was 12 year old me! I had totally forgotten about that haha.  Looking back I definitely could have used a spell checker….

    Hey!

    Wow, I’ve got to say this warms my heart a little knowing this game still has such a loyal fan base. I was part of the Miniature Trading website almost a decade ago and I was sad to find out it went down with all that valuable content. I’ve still got Woelf’s Pirate Code pdf kicking around somewhere haha. Little did I know I’d stumble onto this gem of a website, Ben you really have worked a wonder here! Even some of the old forum threads seem to have been preserved or at least continued.

    I first got into Pirates through a friend when I was super young, like 9 or 10 and it quickly became a small obsession. Unfortunately it was right around the time the game was discontinued so it was really hard to find people to play with and packs to buy. So my brothers and I would battle it out together, mostly OE which was the only thing we could find. Miniature Trading helped spur along my love for the game but alas life gets in the way and it slowly faded away.

    Funny enough though, I started re-watching the Pirates of the Caribbean and it awoke some old memories of the game. That’s what ultimately led me here and I’m stoked to dust of those old miniatures stashed away somewhere! Now I’ve just gotta remember all the rules (looking at you Parlay…)
