@Sondra: Due to the small size of the game components (constructible ship parts made of styrene plastic), I recall the packs saying “8+” on them. Some 6-7 year olds could definitely handle the simple version of the game found in the Start Here rules, but 8+ is probably best to avoid any potential choking hazards. @Sondra: Being able to manipulate how long the games take is one of my favorite things about it – since the build total and type of game is so customizable, you could play a tiny 2 player 20 point game in 10 minutes, or a 4 player 300 point game in 6 hours! 😀

@Xerecs: Catapult is definitely better, but I feel it should be 2 points. I’d try to use it on an island, but it strikes me as slightly worse than a musketeer. I think a cost of 2 would allow it to see more usage.
On the other hand, I’ve realized that Ballista is OP. On a 10 master, you can easily gain TEN extra 3L cannons for just 5 points!…[Read more]

I bought a new Spanish Main pack and received the HMS Leicester(045) I’m confused because the 2nd and 3rd ship plates designate the ship as uncommon (silver) but the 1st ship plate has a different color, not quite gold, more of a bronze. @Devara Garrison: Thanks for the compliment! I’ve played the game over 400 times, so I’ve certainly acquired a lot of experience, but I still learn new things quite often. It can be complicated, but basic small games using the Start Here rules are quite simple.

I discovered the game in 2005 soon after turning 10 and have had no trouble with it in general, though I didn’t really start playing heavily until 2011.
I haven’t actually played with/against a child though; I think my youngest opponent was 16. 🙂Thanks!

@Xerecs: I hear you on that. I’m so satisfied with my collection that I don’t feel the need for many trades anymore, especially since I’ve done over 100 which has exhausted my trading prospects. XD Plus the cost of shipping seems to have increased.

Glad Disk Launcher is 3, since Musketeers are really only worth 2 points anyway. (though if ALL crew were costed correctly in the game with helmsman still at 2, Musketeer could probably be 1 in that scenario)
