You can see my collection history here, since then it’s been a lot of trades.

I got Paradis de la Mer, Libellule, Le Soleil Royal, and I’ll be getting the Bon Marin soon.

Wow, that sounds like a fleet right there!  🙂

It’s really fun to come up with ship combos and just building fleets!

No kidding! I’ve been in that stage many times thro…[Read more]

  • Overall Spain is pretty balanced, but they have plenty of high-cargo ships and gold bonus abilities that make them perhaps slightly more to the treasure side than the French.  Spain also got a weird 5 master distribution, with some ludicrous ones at the top along with a bunch of stinkers or mediocre 5’s.  On the other hand the Pirates and Fr…[Read more]

I suppose I have a few “Fallen Heroes” I’ve talked about before.  Though not many that have been around a long time that are permanently destroyed or that I’m unable to use.  A few WELL-used ships have been hit so often that their mast tabs have gotten a bit loose – I can think of the Enterprise and El Acorazado off the top of my head.

  • Ben replied to the topic The Fleets Thread in the forum Pirates CSG 7 years, 6 months ago

The marines can then be dropped off at a contested wild island to hold things down until the Marin can come and pick the gold up.

That’s the hope, but stuff like that has never really worked for me.  The Marine doesn’t prevent a ship with 2+ masts and explorer from coming in and grabbing stuff, then leaving before the Marine can get a second shot…[Read more]

Opponent 3 had another HMS Grand Temple as well, but he chose not to crew his ship, adding another empty ship alongside the Temple; the Musarde.

Yikes, that sounds like only 28 points.  That’s one thing I’ve had to explain to newbies – if you have even one or two less points than you can have in your fleet, that could honestly make the difference…[Read more]

    • This fleet looks awesome, I’d really love to see it in action.

Due to my limited supply, I only own the Pandora which I of course, love. She is my best Pirate treasure ship and I typically toss Gentleman Jocard (PotC) on her deck to offset the standard Helmsman or Explorer. I can only do magic with to which I own, ya know.

Hands down though, and all credit to you and the community, Darkhawk II is a gem to behold, and top of my wish list. I always use her Spanish sister, La Joya Del Sol because you can’t go wrong with a deep pocket to store your keys, gunpowder, gold doubloons, tricorn, barrels of rum, etc etc.

      • @El Tiburón: Thanks, I think it could perform well.

The Pandora is excellent, and underrated precisely because of the Darkhawk II. Since the Pandora is 1 point more for 1 less mast and less firepower, she’s kind of like “the poor man’s Darkhawk II”. But I like her about as much because the Darkhawk II is overpowered. 🙂 I actually stand by my philosophy that putting +1 cargo crew on extremely high-cargo ships can be overkill. Even with 2-3 crew, you’ve got a lot of cargo for gold. I’d rather put that crew on a different ship to make her a hybrid or make a crew setup work. Although I also happen to think those crew are a bit overrated and probably only worth 2 points, though there are some cool things you can do with them. (such as with flotillas)

Indeed, the Joya is simply incredible. Though also OP in my opinion, so I try not to use her too much outside of competitive play nowadays. When you’ve played a LOT, you tend to get a little tired of people using the same great ships over and over again.

        Thanks for commenting!

  • @El Tiburón: Indeed, I highly recommend trying out flotillas! They’re versatile in that they can assist fast gold runners for defense or dramatically increase the overall firepower of a towing gunship.

  • @Mechavelli: Thank YOU for reading about the grand game! Thanks for the compliment too; even by 2015 my battle reports had come a ways since I started writing them in 2011. Really glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been posting the entire game one picture and caption at a time on Instagram, so it’s nice to see that someone has checked it out.

Are there any changes you would recommend in regards to repair actions?

I feel that repairing is often too slow. Additionally, our group rarely takes shipwrights because it is usually too dangerous…

    • I have never used flotillas, even though I have a few. When they are in tow, the ship that is towing is still reduced to S for her movement correct?

I’m going to have to try them out next game.

    • Haha thanks for going easy on me, I should have known that and should have looked there. A rookie mistake on my part.
