As of 11/9/2019, 17/19 respondents of the Preferences Survey say they like that Pirates CSG is collectible. I thought that might be a bit more divided, hence this thread.
WHY do you prefer that the game is collectible? (as opposed to not being collectible, such as faction packs or starter packs where you would know everything you’re getting)
If your answer is no, why you do you think it shouldn’t be a collectible game?
Looking forward to hearing what you have to say on this topic; thanks!

My only caveat to this is to make the game product have focus on players too. Collectors tins are great and have been a staple of CCGs forever. MTG has collectors boosters even. The problem is other than boring generic starter decks, most CCGS don’t have any good player oriented product. As a collector and a player, I would love to have seen “Crew packs” which would come with say 3 generic crew, 2 uncommon named crew, and 1 rare crew card in them. I would also like to have seen player tins which would come with packs containing everything you need to build a 40 point fleet for a specific faction. Such a tin would contain random product from that specific faction, maybe 6 common ships, 3 uncommon ships, and 1 rare ship with 5 generic crew, 3 uncommon crew, and 1 rare crew. 8 treasure pieces totaling 15 gold and 1 unique treasure. Finally, 1 island/terrain card, a 6 sided die with that faction’s flag as one of the sides, and complete rules guide. Say you do a tin like this for each faction represented in the set and then you have a way to represent players with targeted product.
The biggest problem I see with games that are collectible and playable is simply supply. With two groups of people wanting product, especially the great and rare cards, it drives the value up until it gets to the point that it’s unapproachable for new players, or the new players are stuck with the stuff no one else wants. I believe the proposed changes to product above would have helped with that issue. My two cents.

This is a neat idea that accomplishes the starter deck mission without giving everyone the exact same fleet to work with.
