In this thread we can all post our favorites from Pirates CSG!  So, what’s your favorite… ___?  I’ll start:

Faction: English (love naval history, go Royal Navy!)

Set: Spanish Main (classic, somewhat realistic, nostalgia, awesome game pieces

Ship: HMS Lord Algernon (English, my most wanted ship back in the day, looks more like HMS Victory than any other ship in the game)

Named Crew: Plenty, but a combination of Thomas Gunn, Hermione Gold, and Davy Jones.

    Generic Crew: Captain/Helmsman

UT: Tough to pick one.  Bad Maps is fascinating.  Lost and Altar of the Loa are incredible in casual games, but only when I find them.  XD

Fort: Ramsgate (English, and L+L range cannon)

Equipment: Fire, Stinkpot, and Exploding Shot

10 master: Baochuan (first, most historical/realistic, biggest cargo, awesome campaign game hybrid)

Huge Game: Probably CG1, though Command the Oceans was more impressive in most ways.

Feel free to include other Pirates CSG categories too!

Faction: France. It would’ve been France if they had sucked because I’m a francophile but I think they’re really good, especially their Revolution fleet, which is full of versatile ships that suit my playstyle perfectly

Set: Also Spanish Main, despite France being my favorite faction. Nostalgia, great little stories, slower and more tactical, and I, like you, like the historical part of the game more than the fantasy.

Ship: Snipe. Shameless self-plug, I just did a review of it at MiniatureTrading which sadly seems to be pretty dead as far as reviews are concerned right now.

Named Crew: Well DJC Jack Hawkins HAD been my favorite until I learned you couldn’t use both of his abilities in the same action. I like his Spanish Main version a lot, as well as Capitane Arathiel. Thomas Gunn the Elder was in the first pack I ever got and I always felt bad I never united him with his son.

UT: Ghostly Encounter easily. Also in the first pack I got, and one of the rarer pieces I own.

    Fort: The Devil’s Maw

Equipment: I never bought anything after Ocean’s Edge

Favorite terrible card I still play because I want to: Guy Laplante

@Jack: Yay for the French!  🙂  They are really good.  It seems like a lot of people in the current Pirates CSG community have some disdain for the French, so even though the English are my favorite I find myself sticking up for the underrated French more than I should have to.

The Miniature Reviews section at MT has been somewhat dormant for some years now.  I reinvigorated it a little with the Miniature Review Contest, but then I ran one of those where nobody submitted an entry by the deadline.  🙁

Not sure how you got the SM version of Ghostly Encounter in a pack, since it’s the ghost version unlike the rare from CC.

I like your list.  🙂  Guy LaPlante is interesting, and he did get a better version eventually.

My first two packs were one Spanish Main and one Crimson Coast. So I might’ve pulled Encounter from the CC pack but I could’ve sworn it was from SM!

France always seemed like the best all-around nation to me and in any strategy game like this I like to go for versatility.

Side note but I have never ever built a 40 point Cursed fleet that seemed good, and I have plenty of Cursed ships/crew

The Pirates are the best, but you can make a solid case for the French in 2nd place.  I like their versatility as well, in addition to their underrated named crew selection (for example: 2 sac captains; England and Spain combined have 0) and their aesthetic appeal.

Side note but I have never ever built a 40 point Cursed fleet that seemed good, and I have plenty of Cursed ships/crew

They are easily the worst faction of the Big 6, and best used in more casual games at higher build totals (80+, etc).  To make them remotely competitive at 40 points you have to limit yourself to a tiny handful of game pieces: Grinder, Skwaluck (wrong spelling) from RtSS, and sac captain Fantasma from OE.

Howwww have I never come across Le Bon Marin before today? Instantly one of my favorite ships. I need to find a copy somewhere.

This kinda confirms what I mentioned earlier about the French having a really good showing in PotR. My only regret is that I can’t use Le Favori, Le Courageux, La Belle Etoile, and this ship all in one 40 pt fleet.

I’m seeing one in the UK.

RV was a GREAT set, especially for ships and forts.  You can make plenty of competitive fleets just from that set alone.

I messaged them, since they said to inquire about shipping if you live outside the UK. Might just buy it though.
