Scott-KParticipantI always wondered why a successful boarding didn’t just wipe out the entire crew, and take all of the treasure that you can carry, by default.

Scott-KParticipantThanks Ben 🙂

Scott-KParticipant“Ship A” in your fleet explores a wild island, and then marks the island as explored after leaving. Does every OTHER ship in your fleet also consider the island as being previously explored, or just “Ship A” that actually explored it?

Scott-KParticipantThanks Ben 🙂

Scott-KParticipantI was thinking something similar. If Crimson Angel rolls a 5 or 6, then an oarsman gets to live another turn 🙂

Scott-KParticipantPerfect explanation! Thank you 🙂

Scott-KParticipantI’m still a little confused. Is Blackheart’s ability a “free action”? It says –
Ability :
This ship may move and shoot using the same move action. Once per turn, you may eliminate one of this ship’s crew to give her an extra action.

Scott-KParticipantOkay, thanks for the answer. So… if I don’t have Crimson Angel aboard, can the Harbinger move and shoot twice in 1 turn using both of Captain Blackheart’s abilities?
May 5, 2026 at 6:34 AM #26816
Scott-KParticipantHi. I have a question about multiple actions. Here’s the ship and crew –
Harbinger SM 003
Captain Blackheart SM 002
Crimson Angel OE 039
Helmsman SM 012
Shipwright SM 026
Oarsman SM 019
Oarsman SM 019Here’s the scenario. Crimson Angel rolls a 5 or 6 (either one) before giving the Harbinger an action this turn. The Harbinger moves and shoots this turn using Captain Blackheart’s captain ability. Can I then use Captain Blackheart’s sacrifice ability this turn to sacrifice an Oarsman to gain an extra action? If so, can I move and shoot again this turn using Captain Blackheart’s captain ability? Can I also move and shoot again this turn using Crimson Angel’s ability because I rolled a 5 or 6?
To summarize, is it possible with the above ship, crew, and dice roll to move and shoot 3 times in 1 turn?
Thanks.

Scott-KParticipantAll set. Thanks 🙂

Scott-KParticipant“For a 40-point game, players must use three islands per player (six islands for 2 players, nine islands for three players, etc.).”
“For a 40-point game, each player should contribute eight treasure coins totalling 16 gold points.”
How many islands, and how much treasure, should be used in a 100 point game for 2 players? What about a 150 point game? 200? Is there a chart somewhere that tells us this?

Scott-KParticipantI needed that laugh. Thanks 🙂

Scott-KParticipantNEW QUESTION
Cumulative… or Stacking Abilities?
If Calico Cat OE 038 and Captain SM 008 are both aboard Cat’s Claw OE 032 and shoot at a non-Pirate ship, will the ship’s cannon rolls be at +2?
April 26, 2026 at 6:53 AM #26749
Scott-KParticipantNo, it doesn’t… but Wizkids could’ve been more responsible with their writing.
That’s okay, we’ve already made some house rules to fix Wizkids’ foolishness.
We also house-ruled the 2nd part of Captain Jack Sparrow’s CA 058 ability.
I think our games will be more balanced and fun that way 🙂
April 25, 2026 at 11:55 AM #26737
Scott-KParticipantHi Ben,
Thanks for the reply.
Wizkids created some confusion for me, because their flavor text is not reflected in their rules.
The flavor text insinuates that Calico Cat is in command of the Cat’s Claw, and there’s a link between the two, but Wizkids neglected to give her the “captain keyword”, the text form of the ability, of the word “Captain” in her title.
That’s just one example (Bruce Grey + Accused, and Emperor Blackheart + Zeus being other examples) of how the flavor text is not reflected in the rules. All of those cards insinuate the character is in command of their ship, but rules-wise they’re not the “captain”… of their own ship.
I’m also starting to watch your Youtube videos, and I’m finding them very informative. Thanks for making them. It looks like I have a lot of catching up to do.
Thanks again for the reply 🙂

Scott-KParticipantHi Ben,
Thanks for the reply. So to clarify –
Calico Cat OE038 does not have the “captain keyword” or text form of the ability. So she is not a “captain” in any way shape or form? Is that correct?
Does that also mean that if I wanted to benefit from the Cat’s Claw OE032 ability, I would need to include a 3 point generic Captain instead?
Thanks.

Scott-KParticipantAnyone?
April 21, 2026 at 2:40 PM #26706
Scott-KParticipantHi,
I’m Scott. My son and I started playing Pirates CSG in 2004. We haven’t touched the game in years, so we’re relearning. I’ve read the rules, The Code, and watched some videos… but I’m sure we’ll still have some questions 🙂

Scott-KParticipantHi,
I haven’t played in 21 years, so this may seem like a silly question… but when is a Captain a Captain?
For example, does Calico Cat OE038 satisfy the Cat’s Claw OE032 ability “If this ship has a Captain crew, she gets +1 to her cannon rolls.”?
Calico Cat doesn’t have the generic Captain ability “This ship may move and shoot using the same move action.”, but is she still “Captain crew”?
Thanks.
