Elsinore is actually a pretty interesting ship.

Ya its a neat Longship and the effect certainly gives the Vikings some flexibility.  Too bad the speed isn’t better though.  Regardless when i saw one on Ebay i jumped on it!

Sea creatures can’t be rammed, pinned, or boarded. Nor can they ram, load treasure, tow, or be assigned crew. Sea creatures can be given only move and shoot actions.

The Sea Monster keyword says this though,

    Sea Monster:
A ship with this keyword printed on its deckplate card is a sea creature.
At the beginning of your turn, decide if the sea monster is submerged or on the surface. If submerged, a
sea monster can only move; it cannot shoot or be shot at, and it cannot dock or touch other ships.
If a sea monster is on the surface, it may move or shoot like a normal ship. It may ram opposing ships (the
rammed ship becomes pinned instead of the sea monster) and it may board. After winning a boarding action the sea
monster may eliminate a crew or steal a treasure (if cargo space permits), but it cannot capture crew and if it takes a
unique treasure that treasure is eliminated.

This is directly contradictory to the complete game rules as the Keyword states that sea monsters CAN ram while the complete game rules say that they cannot ram.

Maybe i missed the thread for this but I need an answer to this question as it has been a point of contention in my play group for a long time.  The game rules are very unclear about sea monsters, can they explore and get treasure or not?  Since they can board and get treasure some feel that they can dock too.  Sea Monsters such as Gog-Clocthoth and Jormungandr (yɔrmunˌɡandr̥) are quite useful when allowed to do this.  Any help is appreciated.

Okay, Thanks.  I found one on ebay for about 23 with shipping but it seemed pretty steep.

Hey, How much value would you put on the Divine Dragon?  I could get one for slightly over 20 USD.  One of the only major Cursed ships i dont have….  That and the Loki’s Revenge.

Here is a random question… Have any of you been crazy enough to play against sleigh/whitebeard on Christmas Eve? XD?

I am playing them as a single faction in both CG4 and THC so we’ll see how that goes in the long run.

Ill have to pay attention to how that goes for you! I agree they are best for a mixed nation fleet. But every now and then it is fun to use them as a full nation.

He links to all Viking ships, which does not have the same effect as taking up no cargo space. That’s important because if he didn’t take up cargo space, that specific ability wouldn’t stack with the Oarsman.

Well… My friends and I have been getting that wrong for a LONG time. lol

I think the fleet would struggle quite a lot with no helmsmen.

You are certainly right and its not that i chose to not include them its that we usually play with the rules that if you don’t have a generic crew for any one nation you are out of luck. Which brings me to the point of saying that i really like the house rule of all generic crew can be universally used across fleets. That would especially make minor factions more usable as i don’t have every crew type to any of the minor factions except Jade Rebellion.

    Hi All!

Does anybody ever try to run a Viking Fleet from time to time?  I have had limited success when based around Munnin.  Just curious what you guys have found success doing (if anything considering the difficulty of sailing as the Vikings!)

My last fleet i used for them was this:
    Fleet: 70 Point Game

Munnin: – Reverse Captain (30 Points)
    18 Points
    3 Cargo
    S+S Move
    Crew:
    Sigurd Anderson – 6 Points
Smokepot Specialist – 3 Points (could sub with musketeer)
    Captain – 3 Points

Wiglaf: +1 vs Cursed (18 Points)
    13 Points
    4 Cargo
    L Move
    Crew:
Oarsman – 1 point (no cargo)
Ethan the Farseeker – 4 points (no cargo)

Yggdrasil: Once per turn when this ship hits an enemy ship, also eliminate one crew from that ship. (20 Points)
    12 Points
    2 Cargo
    L Move
    Crew:
    Shipwright – 2 Points
    Olof Linstrom – 6 Points

I have the unfortunate issue of never getting my hands on a viking helmsman.  But if the Dice are good to me Sigurd can kind of fill in where needed.  I essentially try to get Munnin out at striking distance and wait for a good roll with Sigurd while the Wiglaf slowly collects treasure.  The Yggdrasil sort of fills in where needed, usually defending an island and trying to dissuade treasure hunters because even one hit could take away one of their crew!

It has worked about 50-50.  It really relies on the Munnin taking down a gun ship off the go!

    I would welcome any advice!

    Whats up people,

I used to flirt around with MT over the years due to it being the best resource for Pirates CSG related things.  Never really got too involved though.  I ran across this site and really thought it was pretty neat!

I’ve been playing pirates since i was pretty young, i think around 2005 my friends introduced me to it.  I played countless matches of pirates as a kid.  I started as a pure player just trying to get my hands on any crew or ship that would allow me to wreck my friends fleets.  However i have transitioned to the collected phase at this point.  Mainly trying to fill in my minor faction collections.

My favorite expansions are SCS, DJC, MI, and FN.  I love the Vikings and Jade Rebellion, as for the major factions i lean to the cursed predominately.

The fact that so many people still care about this game just goes to show how amazing it was and still is and i am glad to find people who still care about it so passionately!

Finally, my user name comes from an old PS1 classic franchise called JetMoto.  I love the classic Playstation stuff.

Thanks for all the effort you have all put into keeping Pirates Alive!

    – Jet
