A crew ability might work. For example, something like this:

“When any cannon on this ship shoots, if it can draw a single line of fire through two or more masts on the target at the same time, this ship gets [whatever the bonus is goes here]”

Raking could give -1 to connon roll and deal 2 masts if you can shoot their stern, I think a crew with that ability would be nice and cheep or maybe just beef up the cannoneer

@uadoom: Just got word from Jason that although he didn’t work at Wizkids after 2006, he was contracted to write flavor text until the second to last set (Fire and Steel).  So perhaps he’ll have more insight into your question after all!

The game started with Historical fleets and toward the end of the game, it shifted in a more fantasy direction. was that a change direction to gain a bigger audience or a way for the team to express their ideas?
