What expansions do you have? What is your favorite expansion? What is your least favorite expansion?
I’ve got all of them (though not all complete), and my favorite is actually shifting away from Spanish Main a bit and towards Crimson Coast and South China Seas. SM will always be a sentimental/nostalgic favorite, but CC and SCS are probably better sets. (RV is awesome and classic too, just more flawed than any of those 3 IMO) I ranked them here. Least favorite would usually be F&S due to how boring it is and the silly (but sometimes fun) Pokeships.

Discovered this week whilst pulling a pretty sizable assortment from my “double dupes,” that I really love SCS. The assortment is for a friend new to the game, and because I had comparatively little from SCS to give to him, it emphasized what a player would be missing from a lack of those cards.
I’m also fond of DJC, despite it’s literal many flaws. The Cursed faction has great thematic appeal; clear Cthulhu Mythos influence. Ia! Ia!

SCS is amazing. I think it’s definitely in the conversation for best set ever. Which is not an opinion I had before I acquired most of it in late 2014. It can really stand up to the first 3 sets quite well, and is arguably tied with CC as the most “perfect” set with the least amount of flaws (though I’d still go with CC there because of the events in SCS).

We have a few singles here and there from Savage Shores, Davy Jones’ Curse, Crimson Coast and Barbary Coast (no Corairs), and absolutely nothing from South China Seas, Frozen North or Mysterious Islands.
Personally, my favourite set is a tie between Spanish Main (god bless the HMS Titan) and Revolution. Spanish Main evokes a massive feeling of nostalgia in me, and I’m particularly glad that the pieces we got from the set were all in German. Revolution on the other hand finished the big nations off with America and feels like the set that began giving each of those five factions their own, distinct identity. Plus the forts from that set are great.

Favorite? I’ll go with Crimson Coast if I have to choose one. Why? Honestly forts, the French ships, and the brick red background for the cards. But I love the earlier ‘unique’ ship types-Junks from SCS, Corsairs in BC, Subs in MI (off topic-subs are the reason I bought a case of boxes of MI when I had the chance) so its not like CC is a clear cut winner for me.
Least favorite: Caribbean. Kind of went over why in another topic. This set just really needed a significant Cursed faction and could have had some nice minor faction stuff in it.

That’s pretty much how I felt about it, as well. A shame…
August 1, 2019 at 7:41 PM #8509XerecsModeratorI think I answered this on the FB group. But to reiterate:
Between me and my brothers (and for myself as well), we have some of all the expansions, though we don’t have much of SCS or FN. If I had to choose a favorite, I’d probably choose DJC, since the first packs and special boxes we ever got were from DJC. My least favorite might be BC, outside of the Corsairs; mainly due to them making every. Single. Ship. Either a schooner or galley.
My opinion hasn’t changed much since I posted that on the FB group, though after looking through our stuff recently, I find we have more SCS than I thought, and less of SS than I thought.
August 22, 2019 at 10:57 PM #9202MagExpressParticipantI have ships and crew from every set, most of which are complete or near-complete (Curse you, Tasmanian Devil!!)
My favorite set is and will always be Crimson Coast. Besides the excellent selection of ships and crew it provides, I find myself fascinated by the much darker tone it has in comparison to the sets that preceded and followed it, a tone that can be attributed to CC’s stellar artwork and flavor text. Runner up would be South China Seas, which hopefully needs no explanation.
My least favorite set is Rise of the Fiends. While Ocean’s Edge and Caribbean had their share of problems, RotF didn’t really do much in my mind to improve upon them, resulting in a rather small and disappointing set. The worst offense, however, was how the Cursed were handled; for a set that builds them up as the biggest threat since their introduction in DJC, there isn’t much to appreciate and nary a sea monster in sight (save for Terrox, which you couldn’t obtain in a regular pack). Why they weren’t given a non-promo 5-master in this set, let alone more ships on the level of the superb Grinder, is beyond me. Other factions were handled a bit better and flotillas are terrific addition, though, so it has a few positives going for it.

Great point. The Scorpions are way too overpriced to be effective, so that focus became a weakness.
Love your picks, not far off from mine. I just can’t stand the mediocrity of F&S; I’ve been pleasantly surprised the past 2 years or so how useful and playable a lot of RotF ships and crew are.
