I’m looking for upwards of 30+ minis on MT,  it just goes to show how much I want to play lol. I’ve got plans for French, English, Pirate, and Barbary Corsair fleets, along with smaller Spanish and mixed fleets. I played my first game a few weeks ago and won it, but then midterm season hit us and we couldn’t get together for lack of time. Now that it’s over I can’t wait to get back to playing!

Dang, that’s gotta be rough. I’m glad I got some of my friends into it but I definitely wish I could find a couple more people that were interested in it so I could have more games going on. It’s not even about the investment I have in the game, it’s more about actually playing the game since it’s really fun and honestly, I can kind of see how Ben has been playing this for years.

Hey guys, new guy here. My name’s Mechavelli, it came from my love of Niccolo Machiavelli- I just stylized his name haha. I got into Pirates a couple months back, and it was completely at random. I was out with some friends buying miniatures and comics, and we’d been browsing a couple stores by the time we came to this random gun store/comic shop (weird, I know lol) and I found a single SM pack on the counter. It was going to $3, and as I looked it over and read the back, I realized that this sounded like the kind of game I’ve always wanted to play. I’m big on 40k and other miniature games but haven’t started collecting, so Pirates was my first time actually getting game pieces. Collecting these guys, assembling them, and then playing actual games… man. What a treat! It’s exactly what I’ve always wanted 🙂

Lastly, I consider myself more of a player than a collector. I like having rare ships and stuff for sure, and I have a display binder for faceplates and portraits, but I don’t buy minis to display them- I immediately pop them out and assemble them if I want to keep them!

I was lucky and I got my friends into it before we started playing, so we pooled for a box of packs so that we all got 9 OE packs. I already had that SM pack earlier so we had a good amount of ships to begin with. I bought a couple more SM packs later and now I’m getting individual ships so my collection has exponentially grown.

I like the idea in theory but I’ve pulled too many packs where I get something ridiculously strong and then the second ship is garbage. For example, I got the Revenant in one pack and then my next ship was the Picador D: I couldn’t imagine anybody having fun with that kind of power disparity! My first pack ever was interesting because it was pretty balanced, oddly enough. It contained El Ladron and the HMS Birkenhead, which was pretty cool to see.

I like Ben’s idea that 4 ships should come per pack, that way there’s more of an attempt at balance if someone pulls something great- just use two ships vs that one bomb or something.

I have parts 2 and 3 of the HMS Bretwalda and the faceplate of the Pequod. I got them in a DJC pack and I was so bummed that I got them instead of a working ship! Especially since the Bretwalda would have been fun to use…

I think the idea to create a new Pirates company and have investors be shareholders is a good idea, at least for marketing your pitch to people who might want to donate money to you. It would be an extremely expensive venture, especially considering how Wizkids went under in part because the Pirates packs were so expensive to produce for the value they were sold for.

You’ll need to have a solid business plan worked out and an airtight case done before you go up to anybody with donation requests, much less the title-holder company. I don’t know if it can be done, but I would look into it if there’s no possibility of a comeback happening and you feel invested enough.
