I think I’m gonna buy some spooky French ships (Le Loup-Garou and La Republique) just for the fun of it.
Republique is pretty clearly a poor ship, but I’ve never known what to make out of Loup-Garou. I really like ghost ships, both for playstyle and the “feel” of them. But man are they hit or miss as far as quality goes.
So is Le Loup Garou worth it? The pricey 17 points can be argued as both a positive and a negative. You can stock it full of crew that will be immune to being killed in a boarding but that also means piling even more points onto one ship. And it’s only got the 3 cargo spaces.
I do like how with its release in Barbary Coast the ship acts like a hard counter to them, though. They are all about boarding, so it would make sense that they would live in fear of this unboardable ship.

The ship is worth maybe 8-9 points. For example, HMS Nautilus is correctly priced (IMO) at 10 points, but far superior due to cannons and lower cost.
La Republique is actually better than LLG if you ask me. Not a great ship by any means, but a very unique support gunship in a deathmatch or larger game where your game isn’t dependent on her. LLG is 10 points more and doesn’t even have a clear role. Way too expensive as a gold runner, not enough cargo/combos to be a hybrid, and relatively weak cannons. Also, the Republique can be copied to max out Cursed dreadnought builds. The Delacroix is a far better 17 point French ship with 3 cargo to put a bunch of crew on.
I think the Corsairs are all about getting gold, mostly through exploring. I feel less incentive to board if I know I can’t eliminate a mast via ramming first. Not being pinned is nice, but the Corsairs also sometimes lack the size and Hoarding Gold type abilities that would make them a better boarding faction. I’ve always wondered why only 1 of their 4 masters got more than 4 cargo, while they have a bunch of 2 and 3 masters with 5 cargo.

I’ve noticed as well that the best cannons on Corsair ships tend to be the front ones, which makes me think this was on purpose to tie in to boarding. Otherwise yeah I go all into gold running with Corsairs.
I’m not expecting LLG to be competitive for me, but it’s still a nice addition to the collection if only for the flavor of it. I feel like there’s probably some build that can max out its abilities, but you’re right that there’s probably just objectively better ships at 17 points. I mean, La Magnifique is 17 and I think Le Superbe is 16.
Is Ghost Ship worth 6 points? I feel like it should be 2. (SCS El Fantasma would imply that it costs 2 points for him)

I’d say it’s worth 2 or 3. Ignoring terrain was priced at 3 by Wizkids but should have been 2; since Ghost Ship is a little bit better, 3 makes sense. (I suppose 1 and 2 would work as well) Ralph David in BC has it for 8. XD
