Would you ever trade a non-duplicate to get something you really wanted? If yes, have you ever done it and do you remember the trade?

I did this trade in 2012.  I think I had a spare Captain Nemo at the time, but losing my only Nautilus was going to be a big blow.  I’m pretty sure the other user wanted the Nautilus pretty badly, and I liked what I would be getting in return.  (I found the old messages from the trade on MT and I may have sent a common SM crew or two as well, but they were duplicates)

Overall I’m very happy I did the trade, since I got HMS Gallows, the Ghost Walker, and Gibraltar (ridiculous firepower on all 3) for my only copy of Nautilus and a spare Nemo.  I later got another Nautilus as I expected, though I think it took a few years possibly.  Part of the reason I was willing to give up the Nautilus was because I had used her in the first 2500 point game and likely others, and was actually getting a little sick of her underperformance.  XD  The 3 things I got in return are generally better in gameplay for most games, not to mention 2 of them being from my favorite faction.

I think I did once. At the time we had an un-punched Dauphin Royal form CC. I thought one of my brothers already had it, so I traded it, though I can’t recall now for what. It wasn’t until afterwards that I realized none of us had a complete Dauphin, and I was kicking myself for a while. However just last year I think, I was able to score a Dauphin from eBay and gave it to one of my brothers.

As to you question, I don’t think I would trade a one of one now, though who knows what the future may hold. At some point I’d like to get a complete collection just for me, instead of splitting it with my two brothers.

It all depends on which of the two items you want more. If I wanted the other item and valued it more then the item I had, it would be a no brainier.

It is no different then swapping old car parts or any other collectible really 🙂

True, I just wondered if I would regret trading away my only Nautilus.  It was worth it, but I did miss having the ship available for a while.  It’s partly a case of whether or not you’ll really miss something you had for a while and started to take for granted.

Yes and I have done it before. I don’t recall the specific ships I traded away but I made a trade back in 2018 where I received the USS Mercury (Mysterious Island). I traded 8 ships, several were the SE Davy Jones ships which I did not have duplicates of, and others were generic ships I did have duplicates of. Even though it was a 8-1 trade I was very satisfied as the USS Mercury is often expensive and hard to come by and I was more than willing to give up a few SE Box 4 masted ships.

On a separate note I have also sold ships that I did not have duplicates of. For instance I purchased two Mysterious Island Boxes (I didn’t even know they made those until I found them!) and sold one of the SE ships for $18. As more of a player than a collector I was happy to get most of my money back from selling one of the SE ships.

In a heartbeat I would trade nearly anything for a ten master, switchblade, kraken, bombardeir, turbine or hoist. My reason is that I don’t have a single ship with these designs. Im not so much a stat guy since I can play with whatever stats I want but i can’t change the shape of the models.

I get what you’re saying.  That makes me think that perhaps you play with proxies and/or customs more than other people would?

Oh yeah for sure if I was better at making ships I would play a whole fleet of my own design lol

The more you make, the better you’ll get at it!  You never know when you’ll end up better then you expected to be.
