So my user name, Telxon (tel-zon), came from when I worked at a retail chain. At that time I was just getting into World of Warcraft and needed a name for my first character. I was discussing this with coworkers while scanning inventory with them, our scanners were called a Telxon so I ended up going with that. It’s been my name pretty much since.
I think I actually got into pirates before the game even came out. I remember as a kid I would build model battleships/aircraft carriers. I would get together with my friends almost every weekend and we would have a battle with them. The entire house floor would be our ocean, each ship had movement based on its length and would fire based on the number of weapons it had. We would toss the small airplanes that came with the aircraft carries as ammo since they didn’t go too far and was actually really hard to get a hit with. So when Pirates came out I was naturally drawn in! I saw it at a card shop where I played Magic and bought a couple packs. I played once with a friend but he didn’t want to get into another game so I really had no one to play with. Around 2015 I bought a bunch of packs to play with my kids and now they love it and we play almost every week.
I’m definitely more of a player, I’d say 90% player but I do like to collect too. I’ve been buying a bunch recently but mainly for us to have more ships to pick from. I’ve been getting the cheaper sets like OE and got FS for around $1/pack so now we have tons to pick from. I’ve also recently found VASSAL and played my first game a couple weeks ago, it was awesome! I’d love to get some more game in on there if anyone is interested.
For a long time our best ship was probably the Blackwatch. We now have a few options that are probably better but that one will probably always be my favorite. I think my favorite thing about pirates in general is the family time with my kids. I also really enjoy the pirates community, everyone wants to learn more about the game and have fun with it.
