ParticipantI messaged them, since they said to inquire about shipping if you live outside the UK. Might just buy it though.

ParticipantHowwww have I never come across Le Bon Marin before today? Instantly one of my favorite ships. I need to find a copy somewhere.
This kinda confirms what I mentioned earlier about the French having a really good showing in PotR. My only regret is that I can’t use Le Favori, Le Courageux, La Belle Etoile, and this ship all in one 40 pt fleet.

ParticipantI’ve been making pure/almost pure Spanish Main fleets since my nostalgia kick which got me into hunting down the ships I’ve always wanted, but never pulled. Here’s two:
Spanish Pure* Spanish Main 40 pt fleet:
El Acorazado (31pts)
– Captain Alarico Castro
– Helmsman
-Captain
Pescados de Plata (9 pts)
– Explorer
Optional non-Spanish Main stuff: Admiral Castro instead of Captain, Castillo del Infanta, Duque Marques Vacarro, Divers (replace it for the explorer)
Very simple strategy. Pescados gets treasure, Acorazado blows up anything else. If you’re playing pure Spanish Main fleets, this one’s pretty tough to stop.

Jack Hawkins 40* pt 90% pure Spanish Main fleet:
My attempt to get the best fleet possible while using the Sea Nymph and Snipe, Hawkins’s two in-universe Spanish Main ships, alongside OG Spanish Main Jack, using as many Spanish Main pieces as possible.
Sea Nymph: (22 pts)
– Captain Jack Hawkins
– Calico Cat (SM)
– Helmsman
Snipe: (9 pts)
– Musketeer
Darkhawk II: (14 pts)
– Captain
– Helmsman
– Explorer
– Oarsman
– The Hag of Tortuga (CC)
The Devil’s Maw
Darkhawk II runs treasure obviously, but it can defend itself very well and be an attacker late game. The Snipe’s job is to establish the fort, then attack any fort your opponent puts up. Failing that, the Snipe can always raid treasure runners. If you lose Hawkins and the Snipe picks him up at the Devil’s Maw, it turns into a really tough raider, as it’s immune to L-range guns and can no longer be rammed due to being a ghost ship. The Sea Nymph will be your attacker, of course. You can replace SM Calico Cat with her OE version and lose the SN’s helmsman and Darkhawk’s Oarsman if you want. I suppose you could also replace the Helmsman with Skyme the Monkey.
I’ve also been on a fleet building kick, currently thinking of a way to build a French fleet to maximize Marines. Might post that later.

ParticipantActually now that I think about it I have splashed Pirates CSG into other games.
The best one IMO has been Catan. If you have expansions, you can play a seafaring variant of Catan and a gold mechanic is introduced. I’ve played it but replacing their ship system with Pirates CSG ships. Ships cost one wood and wool per mast, and coins equal to their point cost. Crew also cost gold equal to points.
I’ve never expanded it beyond being an upgrade to the basic Catan game, but you could in theory make a megagame out of it, with your Catan cities producing ships which you then use to play Pirates CSG.

ParticipantI typically play the standard 40 point, 4 island, 30 gold game. And it’s fun and balanced but just so quick. I’ve also played 100 point deathmatch, which is fun but typically whoever goes first wins. I’ve been playing a “campaign’ mode I found online where you start with 20 points and work your way up by buying ships/crew with gold that I found really fun, however. Any other variants on how to play the game that people have done?

ParticipantI hadn’t heard about the MT crisis until like last week. It’s sad to hear :/ There’s definitely plenty of Pirates fans out there but as you said the MT scare seems to have scattered people.

ParticipantMy first two packs were one Spanish Main and one Crimson Coast. So I might’ve pulled Encounter from the CC pack but I could’ve sworn it was from SM!
France always seemed like the best all-around nation to me and in any strategy game like this I like to go for versatility.
Side note but I have never ever built a 40 point Cursed fleet that seemed good, and I have plenty of Cursed ships/crew

ParticipantFaction: France. It would’ve been France if they had sucked because I’m a francophile but I think they’re really good, especially their Revolution fleet, which is full of versatile ships that suit my playstyle perfectly
Set: Also Spanish Main, despite France being my favorite faction. Nostalgia, great little stories, slower and more tactical, and I, like you, like the historical part of the game more than the fantasy.
Ship: Snipe. Shameless self-plug, I just did a review of it at MiniatureTrading which sadly seems to be pretty dead as far as reviews are concerned right now.
Named Crew: Well DJC Jack Hawkins HAD been my favorite until I learned you couldn’t use both of his abilities in the same action. I like his Spanish Main version a lot, as well as Capitane Arathiel. Thomas Gunn the Elder was in the first pack I ever got and I always felt bad I never united him with his son.
UT: Ghostly Encounter easily. Also in the first pack I got, and one of the rarer pieces I own.
Fort: The Devil’s Maw
Equipment: I never bought anything after Ocean’s Edge
Favorite terrible card I still play because I want to: Guy Laplante
